Shadows Over Whitman Psalm 63:1

Shadows over Whitman Series by Gina Holder has been very enjoyable! I hope Gina has plans for another book set in Whitman. By the way, I took the photo in the meme when I was in Israel a couple of years ago, and thought of Psalm 63:1 immediately. I hope you enjoy it.

Forgiven Again continues this time featuring Paige’s mother, Kathleen Phillips, and her dad, Ryan Whitestone. Here are the cover and blurb:

Shadows Over Whitman SeriesShe’s running for governor. He’s a pastor.
Will they risk their lives to keep a secret?

Annie Staten, now known as Kathleen Phillips, has dreamed of pursuing a political career and following in her father’s footsteps. But Richard was a hated man during his tenure as governor and now his enemies will stop at nothing to prevent his daughter from winning the election.

Ryan Whitestone has loved Annie since high school, but his heart is broken by the woman she has become. When the daughter she gave up for adoption comes back into her life, can he help her heal from her pain and remind her of who she used to be?

Will Kathleen be able to forgive herself, put the past behind her, and find love again?

The continuing story of No Greater Love.

My take on Shadows Over Whitman Series, Book 2:

When I finished the first book, No Greater Love, I really wanted to see Annie–now going by Kathleen–to find herself again and reach out to her daughter, Paige. But Mayor Kathleen Phillips was determined to follow in her father’s footsteps. While I wanted to shake some sense into her, it made for a great story.

Ryan captured my heart from the beginning. He had to choose between acknowledging Paige as his daughter and telling his new church he had one more discretion he needed to admit. Kathleen did not want him to tell the world Paige was his daughter because that would affect her race for governor. He wanted Kathleen’s love and if he went against what she wanted, he would never get it. Plus, his church might fire him.

This is not just a story of Kathleen Phillips and Ryan Whitestone’s struggles to do the right thing. It’s full of political intrigue, murder, and forgiveness. I think readers will be captured by this story. And you can get it for 99¢ right now on Amazon!

Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library. Kathleen asked both Ryan and Paige to wait until the election to tell anyone that he was Paige’s father. Would it make that much difference if he waited a few weeks? I look forward to your answers.

Pat, I can relate to your picture and Scripture today, especially after last summer’s record absence of rain. Our monsoon season was a non-soon 🙂

Whether to tell that secret before or after the election can be a tough one. Personally, I think it’s better to tell before the election. Aside from being the right thing to do, people tend to be forgiving when someone steps up and admits their mistakes. The question is certainly relevant to our times.

Coincidentally regarding the series title, I just started one of Nancy Mehl’s early books, “Gathering Shadows”.

This sounds like a great series. Real struggles that people face and how the Lord helps them along with suspense Make for a good read. As to whether he should tell that’s tough. But I do think the longer one waits to just be honest and transparent the harder it gets. I hope to find that the relationship with the daughter is more important than anything or ambition.

Oh, the tangled webs we weave! Sounds like a book you wouldn’t want to put down. I say the sooner they tell, the better. Buried secrets have a life of their own and come out when least expected.

    Great picture and verse.

This sounds like a good series. I put it on my Amazon wish list as per your recommendation. Secrets have a way of eating at you until you reveal them.

The best, most honest thing to do would be to tell sooner, rather than later. I can remember a politician in my state who had to resign because of a scandal. Now it has come out he was set up. Life isn’t fair but honesty is better.
    Sounds like an intriguing read.
    Love the picture.

Somehow it doesn’t seem right to keep it a secret. I think forgiveness for indiscretion is one thing but when you add a cover-up to that as well…..I just don’t know. Sounds like a fabulous series, though. Love the picture and the verse!

Hi Betti! I should have made it clear, Ryan didn’t know he had a daughter when he was hired by the church. He did disclose everything else he should have and was afraid they would fire him because he was coming with another something so soon. I’m not going to tell what the other things he’d done and confessed to were but it was very interesting.

choices…choices… These characters sound real, and challenge me to think about what is the right thing to do… This is why the Bible tells us to seek wisdom! Thanks for an excellent review!

I will be reading & reviewing this one soon myself since I am part of Gina’s team.

I love your picture from your trip to Israel, what beautiful scenery….but really hot & dry I bet! Did you ride a camel while you were there? I’ve always been curious how that would feel 🙂

Hi Trixi! I meant to ride a camel, but the day I could, I had a little vertigo and they say riding a camel is like being in a boat, so I passed. I did have someone take my picture in front of it. lol And it was dry, but not really very hot.

Pretty picture, I bet seeing Israel was amazing. As to your question, I think something like that would be better shared before an election, because it will probably get found out anyway and its better to be honest.

Hi Joan. He was honest–he didn’t know about Paige when he was confessing other things…and he planned to tell them about his daughter, but he was also trying to honor his word to Kathleen…Gina did a great job with this.
