Cara Putman’s Lethal Intent–What I’m Reading

Patricia Bradley What I'm Reading 24 Comments

Lethal Intent; Genesis 8:22

Cara Putman’s Lethal Intent is what I’m reading and it kept me up until midnight last night! I love legal thrillers and that’s exactly what Lethal Intent is.

But first, the photo and scripture. I was looking through my photos and came across this one. It was taken one morning last winter as I walked across the street to pick up my neighbor’s paper. This scripture verse reminded me that just as the season never changes, God never changes either.

Now onto what I’ve been reading this week. Lethal Intent got my attention in the first chapter. Here’s the first sentence:

“Caroline shifted in the high-backed chair. The massive conference room table made her feel more petite than usual.”

Here’s the cover and back copy:

Lethal Intent; Genesis 8:22If they expected silence, they hired the wrong woman.

Caroline Bragg’s life has never been better. She and Brandon Lancaster are taking their relationship to the next level, and she has a new dream job as legal counsel for Praecursoria—a research lab that is making waves with its cutting-edge genetic therapies. The company’s leukemia treatments even promise to save desperately sick kids—kids like eleven-year-old Bethany, a critically ill foster child at Brandon’s foster home.

When Caroline’s enthusiastic boss wants to enroll Bethany in experimental trials prematurely, Caroline objects, putting her at odds with her colleagues. They claim the only goal at Praecursoria is to save lives. But does someone have another agenda?

Brandon faces his own crisis. As laws governing foster homes shift, he’s on the brink of losing the group home he’s worked so hard to build. When Caroline learns he’s a Praecursoria investor, it becomes legally impossible to confide in him. Will the secrets she keeps become a wedge that separates them forever? And can she save Bethany from the very treatments designed to heal her?

This book grabbed me from the first chapter on! A sick child, waiting for a drug that will make her well…except that drug hasn’t been approved by the FDA. The girl, Bethany, gets the new treatment but doesn’t improve. Someone is out to ruin the company creating the drug and he uses the girl to do it by altering the medicine she receives. But who is it?

Then people start dying…the scientist and doctors working on the drug. This is a seat-of-the-chair story that will have you quickly turning pages to see what happens.

This is a book I think suspense readers will enjoy!

Pat, your photo and Scripture choice reminds us that the creator of the universe also loves and sustains us.

I’ve read one book of Cara’s some time ago, “Deadly Secrets on Mackinac Island”, and it was pretty good. I will put “Lethal Intent” on my TBR. There’s something about legal thrillers, isn’t there?

“In the daylight, Jake Silver wasn’t the devil.” This is from “The Heart of a Hero” by Susan May Warren. After reading the first book in the series, and mostly through this one, I have become a big fan of Ms Warren. One feature of her writing is how meticulous she is with details. She writes as if she has actually done the things in her books. Perhaps she has, at least some of them. For me, it’s what makes her books stand out. I’m hooked.

I like legal thrillers and this book is sitting on my shelf staring at me!
I actually started one of your books yesterday! Shadows of the Past! Great so far!
My first line is from a wonderful book by Joanna Politano: A Midnight Dance.

He was so very BLUE. That was all my scattered mind could gather as he sailed past the window of Craven Street Theatre. Blue and sparkling under the glow of street lamps that shone down the alley.

I love pictures like the one above. There is something about the sun breaking through the clouds. I guess it reminds me of times when the Son has broken through the clouds and fog in my brain to help me through rough times.

I enjoy legal thrillers. I have only had the opportunity to read one of Cara’s books and a novella. Enjoyed them both. For some reason, our public library doesn’t seem to have any of her books. They do have yours. For that, I am glad.

I’m glad your library has mine, too, Edward! And I love photos like the one above. I took a beautiful double rainbow on the way to see my daughter in the hospital yesterday that I plan to use soon! I really think you’ll enjoy Cara’s book.

The photo is nice showing the sun rays through the clouds, almost like a star shape. I have enjoyed all the books in Cara’s legal series. This series is especially fun since it takes place in DC. I do enjoy an occasional legal thriller. I just finished a cozy with the setting in a bookstore in DC. Murder Outside the Lines by Krista Davis. The first line is: The crate was delivered to Color Me Read around noon on Thursday.

I’m reading Undercurrent of Secrets by Rachel Scott Mc Daniel. “Some engagements end in happily ever afters, and some just end… on social media. Lethal Intent is on my growing list of books too read. Beautiful picture with the clouds and light. The verse fits so well.

I don’t know if I’ve ever read a legal thriller or not, but it’s probably not a genre I’d enjoy. My husband likes those type of stories so I’ll have to see if I can get a hold of Cara Putman from my library.
