Shadows Over Whitman Series

Shadows over Whitman Series by Gina Holder is such an interesting series. The first book is No Greater Love,  and the second book is Forgive Again. While these are standalones, I feel readers need to read them in order. But more on that later. First, the photo. To get the sun coming through the hole in the leaves was a once-in-a-lifetime happening! I hope you enjoy it.

Now for the first book in the series–No Greater Love. Here’s the back-cover copy:

Shadows Over Whitman seriesShe’s looking for her birth mother. He’s looking for a thief.
Will each find what they are searching for?

Paige McDonald, an avid book collector, discovers a forgotten Bible. When the Bible reveals that she was abandoned on the steps of a fire department, she begins a journey to search for her birth mother.

Hamilton Bryant, a Patrol Officer, has sworn off romance, reserving his passion for the town he’s sworn to protect. When Paige’s arrival in Whitman coincides with random thefts and threats against the mayor, Hamilton is compelled to investigate the newcomer.

When the danger gets personal, can Paige save her reputation before she ends up in jail for crimes she didn’t commit?

My Take on Shadows Over Whitman Series:

I was rooting for Paige McDonald before the end of the first chapter. She’s always been told her parents were killed in a car wreck. Then Her firefighter grandfather dies some thirteen years earlier trying to save a person’s life, and now all she has is a great aunt.

She finds a family Bible and discovers she was adopted and her mother had abandoned her at a fire station. Her whole life has been a lie. She decides to try and find her mother, and her only clue is a bookmark in the Bible with the name of a church and the town, Whitman, Oregan.

The next day when she asked for time off from her bookstore job, her supervisor refuses to give it to her, and Paige quits and strikes out to the small town of Whitman.

When she meets the hero, Patrol Officer Hamilton Bryant, he thinks she’s a thief, and it gets worse. Someone is stealing rare books, Paige’s expertise. Not only that, he’s a cop, and she vowed after her grandfather died a hero, she would never marry a man who risked his life for others. And of course, she falls hard for him. Then she finds her mother, but instead of the warm reception Paige had hoped for, she gets rejection. She was definitely having a 2020 sort of year.

This is a great story with political intrigue, mystery, and romance. I really enjoyed reading it and heartily wrote an endorsement for No Greater Love.

Next week, I’ll review the 2nd book in the series, Forgive Again. You can get both books on Amazon for 99¢ each. A bargain if you ask me!

The book sounds interesting. I appreciate that you always have such good recommendations. I’ve found so many new authors that way.

That is a neat photo, Pat. And we can certainly use the peace God promises, especially when we have a 2020 year.

Tim, I thought it was such a neat shot to capture…and it was all by accident. lol. I was walking up the hill as usual, but the time of day put me there just as the sun dropped. And I think you would enjoy the books!

Thanks, Gloria. The verses are an Aaronic blessing and have long been a favorite of mine. One of my nephew’s surgeons quoted it before he took him to surgery and that touched me. And I think you’ll enjoy Gina Holder’s books!

Your reference to a “2020 sort of year” reminds me of a story in the local newspaper this morning. A singer/songwriter wrote and recorded a song during the shutdown about where this 2020 year can go. I won’t give the title because I choose to avoid the use of certain words.

Great picture! The verse goes well with it. Thanks for sharing. Also, thanks for sharing about this book. Interestingly, the face of the woman on the cover reminds me of another book cover that had a woman who looks very much like this one. I wonder if it’s the same person.

You could be right about avoiding saying 2020 – it is just four characters. But I guess that applies to every year. LOL!

I am on Gina’s launch team for “Forgiven Again”, but haven’t read the first book. Now I’m wondering if I should? I hope she gives enough background so I don’t feel lost in the book.

And I had to laugh at your “she’s having a 2020 sort of year”……I think ALL of us can relate to that one! I keep thinking we’ll wake up one day and realize it was just a bad dream, lol!

I agree about how the term 2020 will carry an extremely negative feeling in the future. A friend told me don’t let 2020 get to you. If you do, then 2021. I didn’t get what she said until I read it out loud.
