What I’m Reading Friday ~ Vigilant

Patricia Bradley What I'm Reading Friday 30 Comments

Again a photo from one of my evening walks. This exercise thing is good! 😉 This Friday I want to introduce you to Sara Davison who writes great romantic suspense books. This one, Vigilant, will have you questioning if two wrongs ever make a right.

Here’s the back cover copy:

She must choose between the man who represents the law and the one who may have taken it into his own hands.

Neglected by her parents for most of her life, Nicole Hunter keeps everyone, especially men, at arms’ length. So when Attorney Gage Kelly walks into the diner where she is waiting tables one evening, she fights her attraction to him with everything she has. Gage and his brother Holden grew up in an abusive home, and Gage has baggage of his own. But the connection between him and Nicole is too strong to ignore, and Gage manages to convince them both that their relationship is worth the risk.

Then children begin disappearing in the night. When Detective Daniel Grey starts to close in on the child snatcher, and enlists Nicole’s help, she faces her deepest fear. Everything and everyone she has clung to so tightly could be ripped from her, leaving her completely alone. Except for one.

My take:

Vigilant was a story that challenged my thoughts on whether two wrongs ever made a right. Of course in my head, I know they don’t. But when the right thing is to leave a child in a home where abuse happens on a daily basis…you see my dilemma. Davidson addresses this very well and even has her detective in the story questioning it.

The story, with three engaging protagonists, moves at a fast pace and keeps the reader turning pages to see the outcome. And the ending came with a twist I wasn’t expecting. I thoroughly enjoyed (although enjoyed might not be the correct word) the story and couldn’t put it down. I’ve already ordered the next book in the series, Guarded. I’ll write a review of it as soon as I’m finished!

Thank you, Pat. Another author to add to my list.

I guess a lot depends on how you define a wrong and a right. Something that’s permissible isn’t always good. And something that human law may define as wrong, may not be in God’s eyes. I think it really depends on the particular circumstance. Regardless, dilemmas like these are always hard to decide.

By the way, another author you introduced to me, Kelly Irvin, has a new book out: “Closer than She Knows”, and it is a blockbuster. I’m about 1/3 through it, and love the characters and the action.

Tim, I have to get Kelly’s book. I’ve been so busy with edits and whatnot that I let it slip my mind! Thanks for reminding me. I think you would really enjoy Vigilant.

Sounds very interesting. As a psychology major, it is good to learn more about what makes people who they are. I’m not sure how to answer that question – I would like to say no, but then what are the circumstances, etc…..?

This is a hard one to answer and I don’t think I can answer this question until I read the book, of course 2 wrongs don’t make it right, but like I said, in this case, I will just have to read the book to be able to answer this question. The book sounds like a very good page turner. Have a Great weekend. Stay safe. God Bless you and your family.

I would have to say that two wrong don’t make a right. Like others have said, maybe it would have to depend on the circumstances. I can’t come up with a situation where that would be true however.

I see I can borow these from Kindle Unlimited (book #2 Guarded) and I am putting them on my massive TBR pile 🙂

I meant that as saying I will be borrowing both books in KU…reading Vigilant first, of course! 🙂 This is why you leave the writing to the professional writers, lol!

Hey Pat, since I was one of the proofreaders for Vigilant and Guarded, would you allow me the liberty of proofreading this post. The author’s name is Sara Davison rather than Davidson. Yep, I had to look at it several times when I proofread Vigilant to make sure I was reading it correctly. I like your review. It’s been quite a while since I read it so your review helped bring it back to me. I can add my recommendation to yours. Sara happens to be just one of the authors published by Mountain Brook Ink. They have published some exciting books. This one keeps you reading.

Oh, Edward! How embarrassing. Thank goodness I don’t proof my own stuff. lol. I will fix it right now. Your brain sees what it thinks it does. I just finished Guarded and it was so good! Thanks for having my back!

You are welcome. Has anyone else mentioned experiencing a problem when they click to tweet? For at least the past three blog posts, I have tried to share your tweet and get the following message: Something went wrong, but don’t fret — it’s not your fault. It displays a Refresh button, but that gets the same response. I don’t use Twitter very much so I don’t know what to look for.

Edward, I went to the blog and clicked on it, and it worked. Not sure what the problem is…Are you using Chrome? I’ll check it out on another computer in the morning. Thanks for letting me know.

I use Microsoft Edge. It has worked fine in the past. In fact, I copied and posted your tweet after sending the reply last evening. When I got on Twitter, I saw one of yours I had shared about Standoff, I believe on May 23.

Hey Pat! Thank you for the beautiful photo with the scripture! I don’t believe two wrongs ever make a right.

I’ve got Sara Davidson’s books on my Goodreads shelf.

    Enjoy your weekend!

I think that I have this one on my Kindle. The books caught my eye through Carrie’s blog, Reading is my Superpower. Tough to say about a situation until you are in it, I guess.

So many books. So little time. This is one that I have on my kindle TBR. Thanks for the beautiful photo and the scripture. You have a gift of putting the two together.
