You Said What?

Here’s the photo I talked about in my blog last week of the sun streaming through the stained-glass window at the first Cumberland Presbyterian  Church. It was taken by Stacey Robbins Hicks.

And I finally got to Natchez!! Unfortunately, the power cord to my computer didn’t make it, so the blog is late! But here’s a photo I took of Windsor Ruins, the site of the first murder in the story…maybe…

More photos to follow!

Now for last week’s Mystery Question. Three of the following crimes are true. I made up a fourth one. Which is it?
  1. A man stole a BMW off the lot of one dealership and returned it to a sister dealership in another town for the 5000-mile checkup and free oil change. He also complained there was no owner manual.
  2. A man suspected of arson and vandalism sent a selfie to police because he found the photo on his arrest warrant to be unflattering. He told a local radio station that the picture made him look like he was James Brown on the run.
  3. A retired couple returned home from a vacation to discover a burglar fast asleep in their bed. He was tired because he’d washed their dishes and his clothes, and had even bought groceries.
  4. According to police reports, a wanted Taliban commander walked up to a police checkpoint, pointed to a wanted poster featuring his face, and asked for the $100 finder’s fee. He didn’t get it.

And the answer is…#1. But can you believe the other three??? I particularly liked #4!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: These are statements drivers made to a police officer who pulled them over. Three are true and I made up one. Which is the made up one?
  1. “Isn’t there something we could do to make this like it never happened?”
  2. “I’m not signing this thing. Wait, what happens if I don’t sign. Arrest? So I sign there, right?”
  3. “But officer, no way your radar got me doing 90–everybody knows radar picks up on the biggest object, and that would be the eighteen-wheeler I was driving beside.”
  4.  “I’m in a hurry because the ship will not wait for me. They have to get back to their planet before morning.”

Okay, Super Sleuths, which of these wacky statements did I make up? Leave your comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

Yes, I would, and I have a few possible pathetic lines in my repertoire that I couldn’t recall the last time it happened. I want these all to be true. I’ll go w/ #3 being made up, but they’re all great. And love the photos!

As I drove back from Natchez on the Trace where the speed limit is 50, I imagined what I’d say if a ranger pulled me over for going 58…thankfully I was only doing 52 both times I saw a ranger…and he didn’t bother with me. lol Thanks for stopping by!

I think I’ll go with number 2. I’d probably be too scared to talk back and would probably burst into tears! 🙂

Elizabeth, it’s been a while since I was pulled over, but the last time was probably 10 years ago around Christmas time…and the officer let me off with a warning. I never say anything if I get pulled over since I figure he probably got me legitimately. lol Thanks for stopping by!

I am going with #2 this week. I can never remember from week to week which one I picked. I must be getting senile.

Join the club, Gloria! Most weeks I can’t remember which one I made up when I’m answering the comments since I usually answer on my dashboard. So I have to go over and check the blog. lol Thanks for stopping by!

I’m going to guess #3. And, no, I wouldn’t talk back to a cop. I’d be too nervous. My goal, is to just not get pulled over.

I enjoyed the pictures. I have a feeling all of these have been tried at one time or another. I’m choosing #2. The officer in #3 was probably thinking: “How stupid do you think I look?” As far as arguing with an officer, I got stopped years ago for “speeding”. I think the ticket was for 68 in a 45 zone. I know there was no way I was driving that fast. I had just pulled out from an intersection after he passed going the opposite direction. He had to go down the road at least a tenth of a mile to find somewhere to turn around. As I was driving along minding my own business, he came barreling up behind me, probably at 68 mph and turned on his siren. After I was sitting in his car, he told me why he stopped me. I told him I was not speeding. He declared I was and proceeded to write the ticket. While he did, I calmly told him if I had had any clue he was going to come after me and give me a ticket, he never would have caught me. I was young and foolish, but I was very serious. I was driving a 65 Mustang that would flat-out get the job done. For me, getting a ticket when I deserved it was one thing but to have some small-town punk officer give me a ticket unjustly was just not right. So I argued to no avail and was probably very fortunate he couldn’t give me a ticket for what I said.

I totally understand, Edward! It is bad enough to get a ticket when we’re guilty, but to get one when we haven’t been speeding…it’s frustrating! Thanks for stopping by.

#2–I don’t think an officer needs your signature to write you a ticket! I have an acquaintance who visited Washington DC–a week later she received a ticket in the mail for doing 4 miles over the speed limit–no cop was involved; it was caught on camera!

Good photos! I pick #3, but I’ve been wrong before. By the way, I’m reading Justice Delayed right now. Good book.

Christine, I’m so glad you are enjoying it! Be sure to get Revenge when you finish – it follows Andi and Will a little farther. 🙂 And if you haven’t signed up for my newsletter, you can and get Revenge for free. 🙂 And we’ll see next week if it’s #3!

Funny this should be your topic this week. Sam and I got stopped Sunday night in TN coming back from Toledo. Sam did ask if he knew a certain guy and he said no. The question was perfectly legit since Sam works with the guy and he is from the area we were in (however the office did not know that) but afterword, I offered some legal advice about his comment. LOL!!
And I am going to guess #2
I have a print of the Ruins of Windsor in my home—absolutely love it and have always wanted to visit the real place. Can’t wait to read the book!!!

Rhonda, I’m so sorry y’all got a ticket! I just hate when I see those blue lights in my rearview mirror. And the Windsor Ruins are amazing. It’s hard to imagine how huge the house was until you see the ruins. There’s a fence around it now because of falling debris…I may have to get rid of the fence for my story. lol

Wow! This one is tricky. I would cast my vote for #3. It sounds like an urban legend. Thing is. I once worked for a dear, dear man who would have said, “And then they went out and voted.” Hope that ship is delayed and the driver makes it so he can accompany them back to their planet. These always make me smile.

I’ll go with #2. I honestly don’t know if I would talk back. I’d probably just let them do their job so I can be on my way.

#4 made me laugh the hardest! I’ve heard of crazy stuff like that before 🙂 But for this week, I’m going with my instinct and picking #3. Are you sure ALL these answers aren’t true??

Beautiful picture of the stained glass window! I grew up going to a Lutheran church (though I’m not Lutheran today) and I remember the stained glass windows in the church we went to. I was always awed by them!

I’m glad you enjoyed my answers, Trixi! And I see #3 is trending. Stained glass is so pretty. I have a friend who makes stained glass art–it’s something I’ve always wanted to try. Thanks for stopping by.

I absolutely love the picture with the stained glass window! I agree with your previous comment…the fence should artistically disappear for your story. 😉 It will be neat to have a real picture in my head when reading a story. I have such a difficult time visualizing locations…my husband sees the whole things in his head. I just think…OK, they’re in a garden, etc. No picture. It does, however, give me a great appreciation for authors who can keep me riveted without my being able to “see” the action!
