Back to Stupid Criminals 11 ~ Mystery Question

Back to Stupid Criminals 11 is this week’s mystery question. Can you believe how dumb some of these crooks are?

But first the photo and verse. I took the photo at Mt. Mitchell (the highest elevation east of the Mississippi), and it felt like I was in the clouds. It was so beautiful up on the mountain, and I hope to go again. The verse immediately popped into my mind.

Now for last week’s Back to Stupid Criminals 10 Mystery Question. As usual, three are true, and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. Two ten-year-old boys set up a lemonade stand and were doing good business. Unfortunately, their success came to the attention of an idiot who robbed them after first giving them an IOU complete with his real name for a glass of lemonade. Made it easy for the cops to track him down.
  2. Two men were arrested after breaking into a Best Buy because one of them accidentally dialed 9-1-1.
  3. A man broke into an escape room, picked up a cell phone left on the front desk, a TV remote, and a cold beer. Then he couldn’t get out and panicked, calling 9-1-1.
  4. Two men successfully robbed a pub, but they didn’t realize a retirement party for a cop was going on. When the cops discovered what was going on, they chased down the suspects.

And the winner is…#1. Congrats to all who guessed correctly.

And now onto this week’s Mystery Question. Below are four excuses for their crime. Three are actual alibis that criminals have used. I made up one. Can you pick it out? Leave your answers in the comments section and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.
  1. A man going twice the speed limit crossed over to hit a pedestrian who was motioning him to slow down, then he turned around and tried it again. The driver’s alibi? The alignment in his car was bad.
  2. A man going double the speed limit in a school zone on a suspended license claimed he was a Texas Republican Sovereignty and couldn’t be arrested.
  3. A teenager was caught coming out of his vacationing neighbor’s bedroom window. His excuse? He’d lost his dog and thought it might have gotten into the house somehow.
  4. After being denied vacation weekend, a sergeant claimed he shot his master sergeant six times, killing him because he was on a diet.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for something…

Now for a blast from the past! This week it’s Fatal Witness, and I’m excited to report it’s on sale as an audiobook here. I enjoy write with Dani’s Puli, Lizzie, (looks like a mop), and Mark’s K-9 German shepherd were fun to write.

As a chAudio of Fatal Witnessild, artist and potter Dani Bennett witnessed the brutal murder of her parents. With no memory of the incident or her true identity, she was forced to take on a new name and a new life, hidden away in Montana for the past 25 years.

Mae Richmond has spent the same stretch of time searching for her granddaughter. Dani went missing the night her daughter and son-in-law were murdered. Convinced the woman she saw in a pottery magazine feature is the woman she’s been searching for, she enlists the help of K-9 officer Mark Lassiter of Pearl Springs, Tennessee, who tracks Dani down.

Skeptical but curious, Dani sets out on a journey to uncover the secrets of her past and reclaim her true identity. But someone close to her is determined to keep the truth of what happened all those years ago hidden.

“Fatal Witness” is on my wish list. Love the song and the picture with the excellent Scripture! I’m not very good at these, but I am guessing #1, because although he may have tried it again, I don’t think he turned around and tried right away.

  2. Barbara Diggs

Beautiful with all those fluffy sheep floating in the sky! 😉
They’re all crazy. Number one was just awful! But these days, I guess it can happen.
    Going with the crowd #3

Mount Mitchell is certainly a beautiful place. That’s a great verse. Love that song!

If I had more time to ponder this one, I might make a different choice. However, I’m going with #4. I can’t make a connection between being refused a vacation weekend and someone being on a diet. Say what????

Mt. Mitchell looks like a great place to see. And, the verse you chose is one of my favorites.

    Crazy alibies…
#1. Ah, the old out of alignment excuse. Pretty lame.
#2. I’ve heard that Texas speed limit can be exceeded if “reasonable and prudent”, but twice the posted speed?
#3. Teen’s lost dog excuse. Aha.
#4. My diet made me do it. Somehow I don’t think that will fly with the UCMJ.
These are tough. The guy in #2 seems drunk. #3 sounds like a teen boy’s excuse. I think you made up #2. It’s just a little too out there.
