The Offer ~ Reader Friday

The Offer; Isiah 30:15

The Offer by D. L. Wood is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: “Aaa-deee-laide?” The haunting, sing-song voice pierced Addie’s hiding place, sending chills like spiders across her skin.

But first the photo and verse. I’m pretty sure you can tell I’ve been scrolling through my photos again. This was taken on a cruise a few years ago. I don’t think I’m ready to go cruising again yet…

Now for The Offer by D. L. Wood. Here’s the cover and back copy: Tomorrow, August 5 is the last day you can preorder for $2.99!

The Offer by D. L. WoodSome decisions are deadly.
Addie Nichols, a young, ambitious chef, is determined to make her new Manhattan restaurant a culinary sensation. Pursuing her dream has cost her everything, including financial stability. Though the restaurant is gaining ground, Addie can’t even afford to pay her rent.

One night a wealthy socialite makes Addie an unbelievable offer: an exorbitant sum for personally catering a weekend celebration for her husband on their secluded private island, nestled in the idyllic Thousand Islands. Ignoring inner echoes of “don’t talk to strangers,” Addie accepts. She desperately needs cash, and it’s only a few days. What could go wrong?

Everything.

The Offer is a gripping psychological suspense novel where nothing is as it seems. If you relish strong heroines, unpredictable twists, and riveting intrigue, you’ll be enthralled by this compelling story by USA TODAY bestselling author D.L. Wood. Get your copy now and don’t miss another thrilling moment.

My take:

Don’t wait until bedtime to read The Offer! You’ll regret it the next morning because you stayed up into the wee hours of the night to read “just one more chapter.”

Addie is such a likeable character. And I could easily understand why she’d accept an offer that sounded too good to be true—she was in debt and needed the money, and the person wasn’t asking her to do anything illegal. I probably would’ve taken it, too.

And just when I thought I had the villain figured out, there would be another twist, taking me in a different direction. Romantic suspense readers will love this book!

So, what are you reading this week? Leave the first line in the comments, or tell me if you’ve read any of D. L. Wood’s books and I’ll enter you in a drawing for either a book from my library or a $10 Amazon gift card.

Winner for July is Patricia Barraclough. I’ll email you later today with your choices.

I haven’t read any yet but I’m going to check my local library and see if I can find some. They sound really good.

Once again, beautiful photo and the perfect Scripture for me…since I still have vocal cord damage and can’t talk. “In quietness and trust is your strength.” Okay, I’m claiming it!

Ha, you’re not ready for cruising, yet…would that have anything to do with Lisa Phillips’ post about which author “killed” the cruise director? 🙂

D.L. ‘s book, The Offer looks like another good one. I’ve read five of hers and they are page-turners. She does have twists and it’s hard to figure out who did it. I agree with you, don’t read it at bedtime if you want to sleep.

I’m reading Veiled in Smoke, by Jocelyn Green. “ Meg’s father was gone. Again.”

How did you ever guess my reason for not cruising yet, Barbara. 😉 I’m praying for your vocal cords to heal YESTERDAY! It would probably kill me to not be able to talk. And Jocelyn Green’s books sounds very intriguing!

I love it when a book is so good that “one more chapter… one more chapter” keeps me up at night. I’m reading Porch Music by Kathy Maresca. The first line: Last time we came to Junior’s, one of those mean-talking Pinter boys got mad when Mama wouldn’t dance with him, so he up and called her a swamp Indian.

Love the photo! I’m about to finish “Memoirs of My Early Years” by Julie Andrews, the first autobiography I’ve read in years, and it has been a little surprising. I now admire her even more. D.L. Wood sounds like my kind of author, so I ordered The Offer and The Vow!

Pat, that photo and verse should give peace to every troubled heart. Thank you for sharing.

I have not read any of D. L. Wood, but the name is familiar. Sounds like a good book.

“Iris” by Susan May Warren begins with “She simply couldn’t ignore the bullets.
    Or the bombing.
Or even the last twenty-four hours hiding in a damp and dark cave under some cliff-side in the Aegean Sea.”
You’re going to get “reader’s hand” from turning the pages so fast! This is #3 in the Minnesota Marshalls series. All are big time page turners.

I have The Vow and other books by DL Wood, so I need to buy The Offer and start reading the other books. I am reading Summer in the Spotlight by Liz Johnson. The first two lines are: Meteorologists could not be trusted. At least as far as Levi Ross was concerned.

Beautiful picture. The verse fits it well. That’s quite a first line! I’m going to have to check out D.L. Woods books. I’ve never read any. I just finished reading Mountain Abduction Rescue by Darlene L. Turner. It was really good. Park warden Hazel Hoyt adjusted her duty belt and radio before stepping onto the porch of her father’s ranch just outside Micmore National Park, Alberta.

I apologize for being so slow. Yesterday was quite abnormal for me. I love the picture and verse.

I am reading Ned by Susan May Warren but don’t have it handy. I think the first line has been shared previously. I have a DL Wood book on my iPad but haven’t read it yet. Your review makes me want to start right now.
