Twin Murder Mix-Up–Reader Friday

Twin Murder Mix-Up; Isaiah 33:2

Twin Murder Mix-up by Sami Abrams is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the open paragraph: Cool air blasted from the car vents. The AC struggled to stay ahead of the rising summer temperatures. Amy Baker maneuvered through the afternoon traffic, whispering a prayer for the millionth time that the person responsible for her sister’s death hadn’t discovered his mistake: he’d killed the wrong twin.

But first the photo and Scripture. When I read Isaiah 33:2 earlier this week, I knew I had to use it, and I knew I wanted a sunrise photo. That verse is so empowering. I hope it encourages you as much as id did me.

Now for Sami Abrams’ Twin Murder Mix-up. Here’s the back copy and cover:

Twin Murder Mix-Up

A case of mistaken identity…has lethal results

After capturing a murder on her camera, photographer Amy Baker becomes the next target—but her identical twin is killed instead. Now on the run with her sister’s newborn, Amy has only one person to turn to—Detective Keith Young, her childhood crush. But when they discover Keith is the baby’s father, can he regain Amy’s trust to keep them safe…before the killer strikes again?

My Take:

The story starts with a bang on the first page, literally. Amy is hiding out from the man who murdered her sister, thinking it was Amy. And now she’s on the run with her twin sister’s baby boy and no one to protect her after the man who had helped her fade into the background is shot. No one except the last person she wanted to call–Keith Young.

Amy was a landscape photographer and was on assignment when she saw a man shoot a woman. The killer saw her as well and he was out to take care of loose ends.

Amy had always felt inferior to her outgoing, capable, and athletic twin. The only thing Amy ever had that she felt she could call her own was a budding romance with Keith. Then she discovered the father of her sister’s boy was Keith. How could she trust him after he betrayed her like that? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

The book was full of twists and turns and it’s one suspense readers will love–at least I did. I stayed up until 1 a.m. finishing the book because I had to find out who the killer was.

Beautiful, beautiful sunrise! It reminded me of a song my brother used to sing, “In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.” The powerful Scripture you chose…I’ll bet most of us can cling to and grasp it often. Thanks, Pat.

Great review on Sami’s book. I just added it to my TBR and purchase pile in my trusty notebook! 😉

I’m getting ready to start Carrie Stuart Parks latest novel, Fall Out. The first few lines are as follows:
Bam! Bam! And engine roared, growing louder, closer.
I glanced up from the shading technique I was demonstrating for my elementary-school art class.
A black Surburban was barreling across the parking lot directly at my classroom.

Pat, your photo shows the promise of a fresh new day, reflecting the prayer of the passage you chose. By the way, is that Sirius just above the “R” in “Gracious”? It’s pretty bright.

“Former Navy SEAL Nico Ramirez lay stretched out on a hill overlooking a dilapidated apartment building with his Doberman, Zulu, beside him.” is the first line from Laura Scott’s new book, Sealed Valor. It’s the latest in her series about former Navy SEALS who are finding new careers after a disastrous mission ends their military service. It’s a great story and a great series. Oh yes, every former SEAL has a K-9 so dog lovers get a bonus.

Thanks, Tim. I’m not sure what my camera caught. I thought it was the moon, but when I checked, probably not. And I must get that series by Laura Scott, especially since the book I’m working on features a K-9!

Beautiful sunrise and a great verse to go with it.

I just finished Sami Abrams’s Impending Strike last night. This one sounds as exciting as that one was. I would enjoy reading more books by her. I don’t have a first line to share because I am proofreading one book and starting the first read of another.

I haven’t read any of Sami Abrams’ books. She sounds like an author I need to investigate!
I am in Book #5 of Lynette Eason’s Wrangler’s Corner series, Christmas Ranch Rescue. I’m only in the first chapter, but it’s already grabbed my attention!
