The Marine’s Deadly Reunion ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 31 Comments

The Marine’s Deadly Reunion by Loretta Eidson is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: “Sergeant Daria Gordon cruised her hometown of Kimbleton, Missouri, one last time before she headed back to the police station to clock out.”  You better believe something’s about to happen!

But first the photo and verse. The photo is from a visit to Natchez where the view of the Mississippi River awed me. This verse came to mind. I am ever awed by God’s beautiful creation.

The Marine's Deadly Reunion by Loretta EidsonNow for The Marine’s Deadly Reunion by Loretta Eidson. Here’s the cover and back copy:

To keep a child safe

They must outrun a killer

When Sergeant Daria Gordon saves US Marine Jake Fisher and his baby niece from an attacker, she instantly puts a target on her own back. Someone murdered Jake’s sister and now they want Jake and Daria dead. To survive, Jake and Daria must discover this ruthless killer’s identity. But can they uncover the truth and keep the baby safe…before the killer finds them?

My take:

Another book that kept me up way past my bedtime! If you like strong heroines and a hero to match, this one’s for you. Daria Gordon has her hands full keeping Jake Fisher from taking over her investigation, but she prevails and even saves his bacon a few times…and vice versa. They are well-matched.

I love the reunion aspect of the story and the friends-to-love interest. Eidson did a great job of tying Jake’s hands with his sister’s baby–he couldn’t very well argue with her about chasing the bad guys when he had baby Emma to think of.

This twisty story will keep you flipping page until the end!

You can purchase The Marine’s Deadly Reunion here.

Be sure to leave a comment or the first line of the book you’re reading and I’ll enter you in a February drawing for a book from my library…and I forgot to draw a January name…will do so next Friday!

And don’t forget that Fatal Witness releases next Tuesday!!! You can still preorder for 40% off and Free Shipping at Baker Bookhouse.

Gracious! These sunsets are amazing! You seem to be at the right place at the right time, Pat!

The Marine’s Deadly Reunion sounds fabulous! I loved Loretta’s last book, so I know I’ll be hooked on this one!

Finished reading Fatal Witness again last night. Even though this was my third time reading it, I was still surprised. . . .I’m so glad I am one of those people who forget what they read, because the next time around, it’s like a brand new book to me!

Getting ready to start To Spark a Match by Jen Turano. The first line is quite lengthy, but if it reads like Jen’s other books, it should be a hoot.
“If strolling through the drawing room with the hem of her gown trapped in the folds of her bustle, giving the two hundred upper-drawer society members attending Mrs. Ogden Nelson’s intimate dinner party an unfettered view of her drawers, was a precursor of things to come during the approaching New York Season, then Miss Adelaide Duveen was now of the belief she should abandon her quest—or rather, her mother’s quest—of acquiring one of those oh-so- coveted society matches and simply embrace her spinster state for the rest of her days.”

God’s beautiful earth does indeed call forth songs of joy. Continuously. That photo surely captures that thought.

I found myself in the unusual position of not having any books queued to read in my e-readers while I’m waiting for “Fatal Witness” to drop next Tuesday. So, looking over my TBR list, I found “Rescue Me” by Susan May Warren. The opening line is “Sam wouldn’t lose another kid on his watch.” It’s one in a series about search and rescue on the edge of Glacier National Park.

As of last week I’m still reading (but almost finished) Bride by Beguilement. Broke my shoulder Monday from a bad fall and haven’t felt like reading much.

Another lovely sunset! This sounds like a great suspense to check out. I just finished Rocky Road by Becky Wade. The first line:
Though they’d never met, Jude Camden was an expert on Gemma Clare.

I look forward to your photos and verses each Tuesday and Friday! Thanks for keeping the Word in front of us!
I’m reading “Chaos” from the Breed Apart series that Ronie Kendig started. It begins with “Sweat dripped down his face. Down his back. The heat almost suffocating under the sixty pounds of gear strapped to him. And dirt.”
The Marines Deadly Reunion sounds really good too.

I live on the Oregon coast where we get gorgeous sunsets too! I love watching it sink slowly down over the water & change a myriad of colors as it does so. Thanks for sharing both the picture and the scripture.

I don’t read much suspense, but I had requested my library to purchase Irene Hannon’s latest one “Into the Fire” and they did!! I was the first in line to read it….I love her books, both suspense & contemporary. Here’s the first few lines from that:

    Prologue
    Fire was cleansing. Sacrificial, almost.
And soon…very soon…the flames would come.
    But first, my souvenir.
I crossed to the dresser. Flipped up the lid on the jewelry box. Poked around with my latex covered finger.
    Frowned.
    Where was the ring?

Now isn’t that an ominous beginning to a story?? It certainly drew me in from the get-go! Sent chills up my spine for sure, and that’s the sign of a good suspense in my book 🙂

Beautiful picture! “Filled with awe at Your wonders!” That’s exactly how I feel looking at the picture.

Loretta Eidson’s book sounds inviting. I finally finished the book that took me 10-12 days to read due to lack of time. It definitely wasn’t lack of interest. Now I’m reading Saving Grayson by Chris Fabry. I need to share the first paragraph since the first sentence is so short.

I keep telling them I’m fine. I keep saying there’s nothing wrong. But by the way they look at me and the stirring I feel, I believe we’re both right. There’s nothing wrong and everything wrong at the same time.

Thanks, Edward. I love looking at the photo, not just for the beauty, but it takes me back to when I drove to Natchez to research for the Natchez Trace books. And Saving Grayson sounds very intriguing!

Edward, have you ever read “ The Promise of Jesse Woods “ ? That is one fine story and one of my favorite Chris Fabry’s books. Makes you long for yesteryear!

Beautiful picture! The verse fits it so well. The book sounds really good. I just started reading The Hidden Prince by Tessa Afshar. My father tightened his grip on my hand as we hurried past the ziggurat, the golden shrine of Marduk at its top gleaming in the morning sun.

Absolutely beautiful photo Pat! Like L, I always look forward to your photos and verses.
I have not read any of Loretta Eidson’s books but this sounds like a good one.
Tim you will enjoy Susan Warren’s Rescue Me, as well as the entire series. She is on my too long list of “favorite” authors.
Thank you Edward – I have somehow missed seeing Chris Fabry’s release of Saving Grayson.
I am beginning Christy Barritt’s Leave the Lights On. Skipped a few lines ….. A creak sounded from somewhere in the house. Was that . . . door hinges squeaking? A footstep causing the rustic hardwood floor to moan?

Sounds like a good book Patricia, and another author I’m not familiar with but will add this title to my TBR list.
I’m currently reading Countdown by Lynette Eason, and about the fourth line is:
One is on her back. I see blood on her head. The other one is moving and appears unhurt. She’s waving at us and looking pretty frantic. I’m reading it because it was one of your recommendations a few weeks ago. I can’t wait to read your Fatal Witness and Congratulations on it’s release!!
