Robin Patchen’s Rescuing You ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 36 Comments

Robin Patchen’s Rescuing You is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: “The woman Michael Wright had given his heart to was gone. Just…gone.”

Oh, and if you’re receiving this post on Thursday…you’re right! I don’t know what day it is. lol Now on to our regularly scheduled post…

This is one you don’t want to miss, but first the photo and verse. Every time I sign a book, I put that verse at the bottom of the page. It’s my life verse, I guess. I also put a semicolon and add verse 7: “Wait patiently for the Lord to act…” That’s the key, I believe. And God’s timing isn’t always our timing–His is just right!

Now for Robin Patchen’s Rescuing You! Here’s the cover and back copy:

A heart-pounding tale of danger and devotion, the riveting second installment of the Wright Heroes of Maine series by a USA Today bestselling author.

Robin Patchen's Rescuing You

CIA agent Michael Wright’s world crumbles when his girlfriend, Leila, is snatched off the street and later seen in the grasp of a terrorist he’s been tracking. Michael blames himself. Keeping his identity secret from her clearly didn’t protect her. Now he must defy the Agency and fly to Iraq to rescue her.

Leila Amato escaped Iraq a decade earlier, only returning in her worst nightmares. But those nightmares have come true when she finds herself captive and all alone, or so she thought until she sees her identical twin sister.

Michael tracks Leila to a desert compound, but his rescue mission goes awry when he discovers her sister needs to escape as well. His detailed strategy can only ensure one woman’s safety. Now they’re on the run, trying to get out of the country before their enemies track them down.

But Leila’s kidnapping is only one small part of a larger plot—one that endangers thousands of lives—and now he doesn’t know who he can trust. Not even the woman who’s stolen his heart. A woman who’s been keeping secrets of her own…

A high-stakes international chase full of romantic suspense, spies, and a ticking time bomb that will keep you reading all night long.

My take:

Oh, my goodness. I know I say that a lot, but this book is so good! The book takes place in Iraq and Turkey and Patchen really puts me there. The stakes are high and the tension is even higher.

Michael is a lone wolf, and this doesn’t work well with his team leader. When he’s told to stand down, it goes against his nature and he believes it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission. He sets off to Iraq to rescue his beloved.

Leila left her Iraqi roots behind ten years ago when she escaped. She changed her name and got a good job and met Michael. She’s told him nothing about her former life, just like he hasn’t told her he’s a CIA agent. They’ve both built a relationship based on lies and it comes back to bite them.

This was a fast-paced story I couldn’t put down, finishing at 2 AM. Romantic suspense readers will love it!

You can read it on Kindle Unlimited or purchase it at Amazon for $2.99. Well worth the money!

I finished Fatal Witness a couple of days ago and Wow! You have another winner, Pat! Now I am reading To Marry an English Lord by Robin Lee Hatcher. The first line is:
Sebastian Whitcombe, Viscount Willowthorpe, reined in the hired gelding at the top of the rise and waited for the coach carrying his sister, Amanda, and his artist friend, Roger Bernhardt, to catch to him.

The ominous sky in your photo has the promise of a better day. The verse you chose reflects that promise.

Pat, it seems like we’re trading books back and forth. You read one I’m about to read, or I just read one you are about to read. Today, I just started reading Nancy Mehl’s “Cold Threat”. I read “Rescuing You” last week. I just finished Colleen Coble’s “Fragile Designs” which opens with “Another wave of nausea hit Carly Harris the minute she opened her car door and got out in the garage. It was the stench of gasoline and oil mixing with the humid South Caroline heat swirling around the space that upset her stomach.” If you like stories about twins separated from birth a couple of generations ago, family angst, and missing Russian art treasure, this is a great story for you.

Great capture of that sky. Loved the rays of light bursting through them.

Gosh, I’ve had my days mixed up all week. I’ll probably think tomorrow is Saturday. lol

The first lines of the book I’m reading are—“One day late in May of the year 1886, I found myself imprisoned in the Hurstwell Pauper Lunatic Asylum. This was unconscionable —I had never been a pauper.” The Lost Melody by Joanna Davidson Politano

Rain, rain go away and come in a month! lol Ready for sunshine, Pat! lol 🙂

I said, “Happy Friday,” twice now today, on Twitter/X and on another blog… in public, for all the world to see. (I obviously need to catch up on sleep!)
I am reading Priscilla by Kara Hunt. The first line: “Priscilla nuzzled her face against the dark brown one beside her.” I’m almost done with the book. Good read!

I love this photo Pat and Ps. 37:4 & 7 are two of my favorite verses. I must confess I don’t always wait patiently for the Lord.
    Rescuing You sounds intriguing.
I’m reading Blackout by Lisa Phillips. First two sentences – Morgan’s abdomen cramped. She let out a loud scream, her entire body bearing downward.

Oh, that verse…what a great reminder. Waiting can be so hard sometimes, but then in hindsight often it’s so clear that it was best. God really does know what He’s doing.

I really enjoyed the Robin Patchen books I’ve read but haven’t checked out this series yet. Thanks for suggesting!

I’m not currently reading a book for pleasure, but here’s the first line of the last one I picked up:
“Look. Look.” (Dick and Jane Treasury)
Working on reading with the 6 year old. 🙂

Yes, Elizabeth, waiting can be so hard! I remember thinking that while I was waiting to be published. BUT, if I’d been published any earlier, I would be so embarrassed by that first book! I love that you’re working on reading with the 6-year-old!

I don’t read much suspense anymore, but Rescuing You sounds like a heart pounding thrill ride! 🙂

The book I will be starting today is an advanced copy of United By The Twins by Jill Kemerer, her February Love Inspired book. Here’s the first lines:
“After fifteen years, his mother’s dream of expanding her bakery was about to come true. The stately brick building on the corner was finally available.”

Good to “see” you Patricia! It’s been too long since I’ve popped in here. I love the verse and photo to go with it. It’s one of my favorites 🙂

Love the church spire in the corner of the photo. It’s encouraging to find hope in a gray world! The verse matches perfectly; and I too struggle to wait on the Lord.
I read Rescuing You last week, and this week I’m in the middle of Deadly Betrayal by Roxanne Rustand. It starts with, “He’d dreamed of this day for five long years. Counted the months, the days, the hours…and the heartbeats it took to survive from one minute to the next.”

I’m reading Bride by Beguilement by Debbie Lynne Costello
“Kirsten MacLeod didn’t believe in bad omens, but if she did, she’d blame it on the mirror she’d broken last week.”

I was on the road yesterday and today. My wife and I are at The Collingsworth Family Inspiration Encounter. We travelled through rain, fog, and lots of traffic to get here. The concert this evening was wonderful.

That’s a great verse. I think the key is “delighting in the Lord.” If we do that, our desires will be in tune with His desires. Then He can’t help but give us the desires of our hearts because they are His desires.

I’m still reading the same book I was reading last week. I’ve had too much going on to find any reading time.

Hi Patricia! I love your photo, and that verse always gives me much needed reassurance !
Thank you for the review on Rescuing You, I’m not familiar with her books but will add this one to my TBR list. I just finished “Forged In Love” by Mary Connelly, on the Libby app, so I don’t have the first line available anymore. I highly recommend it though, and being an old West type story, it had a LOT of suspense to it! Mariah was returning home with her Father and Brother, on a stagecoach when it was robbed. They all were shot and left for dead by the Dead Eyed Gang, except for Mariah, she was alive! The gang, who are known for not leaving any
witnesses, get word there was a survivor, it just she doesn’t have any memory of what happened, or who did it. It is book one in her newest series.
    Your new contest/drawings sounds awesome!!
