Reader Friday – Summer of Suspense

I am so excited to tell you about an anthology I’m a part of. It’s called Summer of Suspense and there will be 16 authors taking part. We’re all over the board when it comes to topics so you’re in for a treat. The common thread in every story is about a secret…

You can pre-order it on Apple and Nook now for $.99. It will be available for Kindle on August 6th for the same price. It’ll be this price until August 13th.

Apple: https://apple.co/2EhNTJV
Nook: https://bit.ly/2Gz6lAc

Can I tell you a secret? We’re trying to get as many pre-orders as we can so the book will hit the USA Today top 100 books! And we have a chance to do that if we get enough pre-orders.

I’ll have more about the anthology in the months to come. Right now I’m trying to come up with a story idea that ties into the Cold Case novels set in Memphis…any and all suggestions will be appreciated and if I chose your idea, you’ll get a $10 Amazon gift card. Of course, I may come up with my own idea, but right now I’m braindead and it’s not looking too promising. lol

Here’s a list of the authors so you don’t have to stand on your head to see who’s in the anthology:

Mary Alford
Christy Barritt
Patricia Bradley (that’s me!)
Vanetta Chapman
Mary Ellis
Debby Giusti
Ruth Hartzler
Shaen Layle
Ruth Logan Hearne
Loree Lough
Amy Lillard
Elizabeth Ludwig
Nancy Mehl
Serena B. Miller
Samatha Price
Alana Terry

I’d love for you to share on social media about the anthology! Here’s a tweet you can share and if you’ll look on my website, you can share on Facebook! Thanks so much!!

I’m waiting for August because I use Amazon Kindle. Book idea: older woman who has severe arthritis sees suspicious happenings from her bedroom window on the second floor. She has to use her brain rather than brawn to keep herself safe from the villain. Most books seem to feature young women so you could always throw in a younger woman to help her.

Here’s a real-life cold case that still remains unsolved locally but could easily fit into the Memphis area. A man who moved mobile homes for a living was found dead on his carport one morning by an employee. He had a single bullet hole in his forehead. When the police entered the house, the wife was found with a single bullet hole in her head. Their nine-year-old daughter was missing. Her body was found about a month and a half later in a ditch about an hour from the home. She had been shot in the head also. Police have never found who did it nor do they have any idea why. This happened in 2002. The house where they lived was sold. Two weeks ago, it caught fire and burned everything but the bricks. When I heard it had burned, I wondered if the person responsible for the murders thought someone was about to find some evidence and decided to completely destroy the house.

Oh, wow, Edward. That is a gripping cold case. I’ll have to think about it and see if my mind can turn it into fiction. 🙂

That’s the key–a lot of people tell me that if I’d write their life story I’d have a best seller. The only problem is, I have to be able to see it as a fictional story. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

I preordered on my Nook when I started getting emails from the various authors and will probably buy on Amazon when it comes out too. I am looking forward to reading it.

Hi Patricia!! Missed reading your blogs but I know you had a wonderful trip to Isreal and a research trip if I remember correctly. Welcome back 🙂

I’m no writer so I don’t really have any story ideas to tie into your Memphis cold case series. The one I just read recently was about a newborn baby who was stolen right from under her mothers eye from the hospital. The little girl went missing and nobody could solve it for 21 years! The woman who took her dressed up as a nurse so that’s how she was able to walk around the hospital without being noticed. It was a very good book to say the least! Of course the case was solved at the end of the book.

I can’t wait for this anthology to come out on Amazon!! I would pre-order but I only read ebooks on my Kindle. I’m sure you can get a free app but I don’t like to have a lot of those on my Kindle taking up space. Definitely must have this book since it has SO many great suspense writers in it 🙂 I tweeted about the set and will share on Facebook as well.

So good to see you back again Patricia…hope you can come up with a great next story series 🙂

Hi Trixi! Good to ‘see’ you. I’ve been playing around with a title: Code Pink. That’s the code hospitals use when a baby is abducted. In my mind the story will take place ten years later when the adoptive mother realizes the baby she and her now deceased husband adopted may have been stolen…and that’s all I have. lol Your mentioning book you read may be confirmation this is the story I’m supposed to write…

Very cool! I think it sounds like a great story. If you think 21 years back, we didn’t have the technology we have now to catch a would-be abductor….no Amber Alerts either! So it was totally feasible to have stolen a baby right from the nursery at a hospital. I’d say go for it!

Anyway, if you want to know the book this was from, it’s Never Let Go by Elizabeth Goddard. It’s her first full length novel published by Revell. I think you might enjoy it 🙂

I also just read the book Trixi mentioned. It was by Elizabeth Goddard. It reminded me of stories I had heard of woman in Tennessee years ago that took babies and sold them. Authorities don’t know how many she took or where all of them ended up. Interesting to speculate on what happened to all of them. You seem to have been traveling a lot lately so its no wonder you are too tired to think up ideas for your stories. I am sure you can think up plenty of stories once you are rested. I really enjoy your books.
