Reader Friday ~ Living Lies

Living Lies by Natalie Walters releases next week, and it’s a book you don’t want to miss! Here’s the back cover copy of her debut novel:

In the little town of Walton, Georgia, everybody knows your name–but no one knows your secret. At least that’s what Lane Kent is counting on when she returns to her hometown with her five-year-old son. Dangerously depressed after the death of her husband, Lane is looking for hope. What she finds instead is a dead body.

Lane must work with Walton’s newest deputy, Charlie Lynch, to uncover the truth behind the murder. But when that truth hits too close to home, she’ll have to decide if saving the life of another is worth the cost of revealing her darkest secret.

Debut novelist Natalie Walters pulls you to the edge of your seat on the first page and keeps you there until the last in this riveting story that will have you believing no one is defined by their past.

My take:

This was an edge of your seat page-turner! I stayed up past midnight two nights in a row to see what happens! Mystery, murder, intrigue, Vietnam veterans with PTSD, and a heroine struggling with depression, something a lot of people hide. Walters did a great job of creating characters I cared about. And the suspense was high.

I enjoyed watching the romance develop between Lane and Charlie and the way Lane grew throughout the book. I loved the small town of Walton, Georgia. It made me think of my own small town. If you enjoy romantic suspense that keeps you up at night, you’ll love this book. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Harbored Secrets series!

You can purchase Living Lies at:

Amazon

B&N

BUT…if you leave a comment I’ll enter you in a drawing for a copy of Natalie’s book! Tell me what it takes for you to take a chance on a debut author.

It doesn’t take much at all to embrace a debut author. I know the vicissitudes of publishing and that an author can have a compelling plot and stellar writing but publication may not happen easily. This one sounds great and I love small town stories.

I would love to win this book!! I really enjoy spending starting with an author from the beginning of their books, so new authors are my favorite…and I love books set in the south

I am always ready to try new authors. How else are you going to find enough reading material? As long as the story sounds interesting or gets a couple of good reviews, I’m all in! The worst that can happen is I don’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping and that rarely is the case.

It doesn’t take much for me to check out a debut author. I’m on a launch team for an author’s second novel. I’ve also been in contact with a local author in the hopes that her debut novel can be discussed at a friends book club. I guess you could say that I have a heart for debut authors!

I am also a Georgia native, Jackie, and enjoy books set there. I was able to read an ARC of this book and enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one. Don’t enter me in the giveaway for it, Pat.

I will take a chance on a new author if he/she comes recommended by someone I know personally or follow their blog, etc. I often look at the early reviews to see if others have enjoyed the book. This title is familiar to me, having seen it in a few places by now. The recommendations have all been great! Thanks for the giveaway – I certainly hope to read this one 🙂

I’m always thrilled to find new authors just starting out & help them spread the word out about their books! As for this particular book, LIVING LIES, I have no problem believing it’s going to be a WINNER because I’ve already seen read several reviews by Author friends whose opinions I respect. I’ve read the Publisher’s material. I’ve read about the author. This is a book I wish I’d have been on the Launch Team for as it seems to contain all the elements of a great Romantic Suspense Novel which is one of my favorite genres! The main thing is what people I respect have to say about it.

Various things may draw me to a new author. It may be the recommendation of a friend, or it could be a combination of the cover and the blurb on the back. Over the past four or five years, I have been drawn to an author’s books because I proofread the first one and wanted to read more.

Yes please! I’ve just started seeing this book explode all over social media and it has high ranks & reviews. What makes me want to try a debut author? Trusted reader friends for sure, they know what they like and what’s good out there. I trust their take on books & most of them read the same types of genres I do so I know if they highly recommend or rave about a debut book, it HAS to be good!

I have tried a few debut authors and books on my own, of course, but I’m more hesitant to do so. Sometimes it’s the cover or the back cover blurb that pulls me in so I pick it up to read. I love word of mouth recommendations though (through a blog, or reviews, or social media hype). I just love discovering new-to-me authors in this way.

Thanks for the chance to win this new one. I would read it just on your review 🙂

Thanks, Lucy. And you have a blessed weekend, too. We’re having a Memorial Day speaking at our local National cemetery. I hope to get a photo of all the flags on the graves in the morning.

This book sounds intriguing! I usually read the back cover of a book, and I like a clean suspense! I also enjoy a little romance…and, sometimes the setting of the book draws me in

I tend to go off recommendations from people I know, especially those that l know like what I like.
That being said, I’m game to try a new author solely by reading the back cover. If it sounds like a good plot, I’ll give it a try.
