Reader Friday ~ Legacy Rejected

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 40 Comments

It’s been a busy week and here I am at 9:30 writing my blog. 🙂 But I just finished a really good book that had me up past midnight last night. Legacy Rejected by Robin Patchen. Here’s the back cover copy:

All she wants is a home, but there is no safe haven when mobsters are after you.

Realtor Ginny Lamont’s family has abandoned her, leaving her with nothing but a warning that she’s in danger. But Ginny’s built a home in New Hampshire. After a childhood of nomadic living, she’s not running again, certainly not because of some nameless, baseless threat.

Real estate developer Kade Powers is thrilled to go out with Nutfield’s beautiful new real estate agent. But the prowler they surprise after their first date offers a glimpse into Ginny’s past and the legacy of lies her parents left her with. She brings a mystery, one he’s determined to help her solve.

With Kade’s help, Ginny searches for the truth of her parents’ criminal activity while her enemies close in. When the mobsters show up in her quaint New England town, will she find a way to bring them down, or will she lose the life—and the man—she’s come to love?

Legacy Rejected is the first book in a new Christian romantic suspense series. If you like romance coupled with page-turning suspense that’ll keep you reading late into the night, you’ll love Legacy Rejected. Buy it now.

If you like the Legacy series, you might also like Robin Patchen’s other books. Check out the Hidden Truth series, the first books that take place in Nutfield. Then, be sure to read the Beauty in Flight 3-book serial story, which has roots in the same town. And don’t miss the Amanda books, two romantic suspense novels, and Robin’s standalone romance novellas.

My take:

This is a very well-written story with a hero and heroine I quickly came to care about. Robin knows how to hook the reader and draw them into the story. I especially liked Ginny…well, I especially liked Kade, too. Ginny is looking for someone to love her, but she has a hard time trusting because of her family background. And Kade is trying to live up to the family’s standards–at least his perception of the standards.

This book is a perfect blend of romance, suspense, and a spiritual thread. Ginny is a new Christian who doesn’t know how to trust that God isn’t like her family. I loved watching her come to trust Him. And Kade is awesome — I love the way he stands up for Ginny when everyone turns against her. This is a great book. And there are more in the Legacy series! I already have the second one on my TBR table!

Right now you can purchase Legacy Rejected at Amazon for $.99 right now.

Do you ever read books out of order? Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in the September drawing for a book from my library. I almost started reading the second book before I realized it was a series and it was hard to put off finishing it.

The winner of a digital copy of Breaking Point from last week’s Reader Friday is Caryl Kane!

I have on occasion accidentally read books in the wrong order, and I always feel disappointed. Books just flow better when they’re read in the correct order. If I had to, I’d read one out of order, but I’d have to be pretty desperate! And thanks for the author/book recommendation!

Well, you’ve certainly introduced another well-wriotten thriller I look forward to reading. I do sometimes read series books out of order but prefer not to. Right now I’m reading a vital Tom Clancy book that I had missed in a series and it is filling in some important satisfying blanks–one fact I’m even including in a univ. history course syllabus.

I really prefer to read a series in order. Even though most are written to stand-alone, I believe the author had a reason for the order chosen, and the reader will benefit more by following that order. But, sometimes reading out of order happens, and if the book is good, I’ll go back and read the earlier ones.
Pat, I appreciate your book suggestions very much. Thank you for bringing Marji Laine’s work to my attention. I just finished “Counter Point” (the first in this series & available for my Nook), and I’m hooked. “Legacy Rejected” has also been added to my next to read books. I’m getting to the point where I’ve got more books to read than time to read them!

I prefer to read series in order. When I read one out of order, I usually wish that I hadn’t ! Waiting for that last book, though, sometimes gets pretty hard!

Pat, I like your take on Legacy Rejected. I have been reading Robin’s books since the first Hidden Truth book was written. I haven’t gotten the second Legacy book yet but am looking forward to reading it. As to your question, I seldom intentionally read a series out of sequence, but it has happened. I prefer reading in the order in which they were written.

I prefer to read books in order. I love Robin’s books! I’m currently reading Finding Amanda. I’ve already read the Hidden Truth series, and the Beauty in Flight series is next on my list. I also have the Legacy series in my TBR pile. So much reading to do, so little time!

I sometimes read books out of order, if I don’t realize it. Then go back and read them again from the start. Or If they are loosely connected, then I just read the ones I missed.
This looks like a great book/ series.

It’s always nicer to read the books of a series in order, but like the others, I have been known to read one before I knew it was part of a series. I will admit, though, its always nice to start over and then reread and get the whole story 🙂

I prefer to read in order but sometimes read a book that is not the first in the series. If I like it, I sometimes plan to go back and read the earlier one(s). I did purchase this book because it was on my wish list when it went on sale. Thanks for the letting us know your thoughts.

I’ve read books out of order but never intentionally! If I know it’s a series, no matter if they are stand-alone or they flow right into the next book, I HAVE to read them in order.

I’ve not read a Robin Patchen story but it sure sounds like I would love them. My library has some of her ebooks that I can borrow so I’m putting them on my want-to-read list 🙂 Thanks for adding to my list every week Patricia!
