Reader Friday ~ Deadly Commitment

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 55 Comments

I’m adding another you-must-read suspense story to your TBR table! Kathy Harris has written an intriguing story that will keep you glued to the page. Here’s the back cover copy:

Will the truth about her fiancé be more unsettling than the stranger stalking her?

When Danielle Kemp walks out of her downtown Nashville condominium, she gets the eerie feeling that someone is watching her. She’s convinced that the homeless man outside her building is stalking her. But after learning the real identity of the intimidating stranger, she faces something even more threatening―the truth about her fiancé. Deadly Secrets is a new fiction series with southern charm and big-city twists. Set in the author’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, it’s filled not only with intrigue and suspense, but subtle glimpses into how God is at work in the lives of ordinary people doing ordinary jobs . . . or maybe they aren’t so ordinary after all.

My take:

What would you do if you discovered the man you expect to marry is selling drugs and maybe worse? And he’s involved you in his dealings by leaving a suitcase with you. A suitcase filled with money. The answers make for an intriguing story.

And while this story is a suspense, Harris takes time to flesh out her characters. Danielle is a strong woman, she even konks Detective Caleb Samuels over the head with an expensive Ming vase. Talk about making an impression. And Caleb is a perfect hero. Strong, caring with deep values. She even made me care about Danielle’s fiancé…or at least feel sorry for him.

I loved the way Kathy Harris kept putting these characters I care about in dangerous situations. I really got caught up in the story–enough that I almost burned supper. I even liked her finacé or at least I felt sorry for him. This story is a good read, but don’t start supper first.

Okay, I have to make a confession. I read this book back in August when Kathy asked if I’d read it in view of an endorsement. This week I did something I rarely do.  I reread it the last two nights to make sure I do her review justice and this time it was even better! I wasn’t rushing through to see how it turned out. lol

So, leave me a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a signed copy of A Deadly Commitment. One commentor will win the signed copy and another one will win the ARC that I originally read. Tell me if you re-read books.

Yes!! I have several authors that I re-read their books, you and Ms Harris are on my list. Sometimes a series takes awhile for the author to write so I re-read the first ones….and there some books that I enjoyed enough to re-read. My family and friends think I am crazy…..

Oh boy!! This sounds really intriguing! I do reread books sometimes if they are series that I’ve saved & is been awhile since I 1st read them.

Yes I sometimes re read books. When I have the time. So many good new books out there. I confess I have a novella to review but might have to re read it because, like you, it’s been too long since I read it the first time!
    This one sounds great!

Pat, you’ve convinced me to add “Deadly Commitment” to my list. Kathy Harris is a new author for me.
Some years ago, I decided to reread all my Christian suspense books. It took me nearly a year. It was fun getting reacquainted with those characters and plots. If I were to do it again today, I’d never get to read any new books!
However, when reading a series that’s still being written, I will sometimes go back and reread the earlier ones to pick up the mood and refresh my memory of the characters.

I reread books frequently. They are just as good the second or third time around as they were the first time.

I seldom reread a book because there are just too many available. I may pull out an earlier book in a series to recheck a fact or a name, but only skim to look for the part I want to check. With the number of good authors continuing to grow almost monthly, I can’t find time to read them all once, much less twice.

I too can’t keep up with the new books that I have to read so I don’t reread them. I may skim those in a series to refresh my memory. This sounds like a good one.

Sounds like a fabulous book! I do reread books when I can find the time, especially if it is a series and I have forgotten much of the book(s) before the current one.

I know what you mean, Betti. Although I have been known to wait until a whole series is out before reading the first book…then I read them straight through. lol Thanks for stopping by.

I would love to visit my hometown through this book. Otherwise, I will have to wait for next summer. There are a select few that I do read again. Austin’s novels must be enjoyed at least every other year.

I do not re-read books, I have waaaaay too many on my TBR pile for that! Not only that, I just have never had the desire to re-read, I guess. It would be a rare book to do that with.

This sounds good! Love that cover, it has a definite mystery/suspense/thriller vibe to it. What a premise too…a drug selling fiance? Gotta find out about that!

Sounds right down my alley! Definitely adding to my TBR! And I do occasionally reread books. A year or so back I reread all books (that I could source free) by a couple of authors, but since then have added so many books to my TBR list that I doubt I’ll find time to repeat that any time soon!!

I used to reread books but it would take quite a while for me to forget enough but now as I get older it’s much sooner lol. Anymore with ebooks and other ways to obtain books I don’t find myself rereading much anymore. Too many out there to read!

Do I reread books? Hum, any reader would tell you yes, there are some books that just grab you and won’t let go. So you pick it up and reread it. That way you get to savor every word all over again. Plus the best thing I can ever say about a book or an author is pass the book on, or tell them to get a copy. Yes, the book is that good!

I do reread books sometimes if they are series and it has been awhile since I read the first ones. I also will go back after a few years and reread ones I especially enjoyed. Sad to say that my memory is not what it once was.

Mine isn’t either, Joni, but I will say once I start a book I know pretty quickly if I’ve read it before. Sometimes I go ahead and reread it if it was a good book. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and joining the discussion.

I rarely reread books, although I have a growing mental list of ones I’d like to reread someday. My list of new books to read is just so big that it is hard to make the choice to reread.
