Pursued in the Wilderness; Isaiah 40:8

Pursued in the Wilderness by Loretta Eidson is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: “What is it this time, Nick?” Brooke Chandler looked at her cell and rolled her eyes.

Before I tell you what I think of Loretta Eidson’s fabulous book, the photo and verse. It’s another photo from my Seattle trip, also taken at the Seattle Japanese Garden (Earlier I had erroneously called it Seward Park). I love the verse from Isaiah! It’s God’s promise to us that He endures forever.

Now for Pursued in the Wilderness by Loretta Eidson. Here’s the back copy and cover:
Pursued in the Wilderness; Isaiah 40:8
Her baby’s life…depends on one man and his K-9
The murder of her ex-husband at a remote cabin and the discovery that the killers want to take her about-to-be-born baby sends Brooke Chandler running into the Tennessee mountains. She stumbles into the campsite of K-9 handler Trent Williston and his search-and-rescue dog, Rex. Trent vows to get Brooke and her baby to safety. But with the killers on their heels, the impending birth of Brooke’s baby and the threats of the wilderness, they must first survive…
My Take:

This is Loretta Eidson’s debut novel, and I could not put it down! Even though I’ve read it, I’ve also preordered it so I’ll have a copy when it releases in September!

Brooke Chandler is a very strong heroine–she doesn’t give up even though she is about to give birth in the worst circumstance–in the middle of a national park. It’s her worst nightmare. No, her worst nightmare is the people who want her baby so they can sell it on the black market after killing her ex-husband.

And Trent Williston is swoon-worthy strong. He’s not only a K-9 handler but an EMT First Responder who recently delivered a baby at a car wreck scene, and unfortunately, the baby didn’t make it. He never wanted the responsibility of delivering another baby. And now he could very well have to deliver Brooke’s baby under terrible circumstances. All the while they were running from men who were trying to kill her. Not to mention she’s terrified of his K-9 dog.

Eidson did a great job of making me care about these two as well as making me turn the pages as fast as I could to see what happened next. The romance is tender between the now-widowed Brooke and Trent. Both have issues that have to be resolved, but Eidson did a great job working them out.

This is a fast-paced read that I believe romantic suspense readers will love. Release date is September 27 and you can preorder it here.

Leave a comment or the first line of the book you’re reading and I’ll enter you in an August drawing for a book from my library!

Beautiful photo in a beautiful park, and all the beauty doesn’t come close to matching the Word of God who created it.

Ms Eidson’s book sounds like a real thriller, and with a K-9 to boot!

“Bristol Steele believed in perfect days. Today wasn’t one of them. Not even close.” is the first line of “Forged in Steele” by Susan Sleeman. This is #3 in her Steele Guardians series. I don’t Susan can write a bad book. I’ve enjoyed every one of hers so far.

Sounds like a clever and most intriguing plot. Definitely a must read! Great review, Pat. You got me hooked.

And I would love a walk through that gorgeous park!

No new book for me. I haven’t gotten past my last few chapters of last weeks book and I’m suffering reading withdrawals!

I’m always happy to learn about a new romantic suspense and Loretta’s book sounds great! I’m currently reading Amish Jane Doe by Shelley Shepard Gray and the first line is ‘Busy’s Amish Market still smelled the same, like fresh bread, strawberries, lemon furniture polish and clean cotten.’ Makes you feel like you really are at Busy’s Amish Market!

I have been to Seward Park. It’s a great place to go for walks, enjoy the trees, skip stones, row a boat, stuff like that. Pursued in the Wilderness sounds good! First line from my current read: “As I start into a pair of gorgeous green eyes, ones I should be smitten with, they’re so attractive, all I can think is that whoever said life doesn’t always turn out the way you planned wasn’t kidding.” -Plotting for Murder by Tamra Baumann.

Hi Vera. I mistakenly called the Seattle Japanese Garden Seward Park. Thirty lashes with a wet noodle. We went to both, but I didn’t take a photo of the Japanese Garden so I thought all the photos came from Seward park. :-/ And your first line is so intriguing that I have to check this book out!

    Love the picture and verse.

I just started Boughs of Folly by Sandra Orchard. I actually have it beside me. The first line is:
As Jillian Green navigated the long, tree-lined drive leading to her home, she couldn’t help but smile at the sight of Belle Haven.
