Lisa Harris's The Chase; Psalm 90:17

Lisa Harris’s The Catch is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: He’d lied to her again. But first the photo and Scripture verse.

I took this photo of the sun from my backyard on a day a cold front moved in. I love the way it looks like the clouds have hands and are holding the sun.

Now for Lisa Harris’s The Catch.

The CatchAfter a harrowing attempt on a judge’s life at the courthouse, Deputy US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn are tasked with finding a missing woman and an endangered child in connection to the murder of the judge’s wife. What seems like a fairly straightforward case becomes hopelessly tangled when the marshals discover that the woman they are searching for is in witness protection and the Amber Alert put out for the missing child has put two lives in danger.

Madison and Jonas are forced into a race to find the woman and the child before the men who want her dead discover her location. And in a final showdown that could cost her everything, Madison will come face-to-face with the person who murdered her husband.

USA Today bestselling author Lisa Harris concludes her thrilling US Marshals series with this breathless tale of secrets kept, lies exposed, and ultimately, justice prevailing.

My Take:

Oh.My.Goodness! This was a fast-paced, twisty story that grabbed me from that first sentence. Lisa Harris knows how to weave story threads together. She has you guessing until the end. Nothing is as it seems in this story with a great ending.

This is book three in Harris’s U S Marshals series. I plan to go back and read books one and two., I had no trouble keeping up with the story. Madison James intrigued me from the beginning. She feels responsible for her husband’s murder. Her father has dementia. And she’s just recovering from a gunshot wound. That’s plenty of baggage to keep her from committing to the hunky Jonas Quinn.

Before Jonas left for a month-long Special Operations Training, he told Madison he loved her. He’s back now and is ready for an answer. But until she believes her husband died because of her and she can’t put another man in jeopardy. She feels she has to solve the crime first. The question is, will Jonas wait?

The day he returns, they are thrown into a murder case involving a woman in the WITSEC program. Someone kidnaps her and the infant she’s babysitting. Now Jonas and Madison have to find her before the man the woman is testifying against finds her.

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way to the end. Readers of romantic suspense will love this story.

Leave the first line of the book you have handy and I’ll enter you in a January drawing for a book from my library!

I see the hand holding the sun. We have a cold front moving through today. Chilly! I also enjoyed The Catch. I finished Dark of Night by Colleen Coble earlier this week. This is the first lines:
Should she even be out here alone? Michigan’s U.P. was a whole lotta wilderness. Michelle Fraser’s shoulder blades gave a tingle and made her glance back to see if anyone was following her.

Have you read Colleen’s Rock Harbor series, Tim? It was written years ago, and this new series is a trip back to Rock Harbor. Dark of Night is the second book in the new series. I highly recommend both and I don’t feel that you have to read the first series before the new one.

Fantastic photo, Pat! The Bible says God holds His creation together. Good verse to go with it.

I read Lisa’s book and loved it. She is such a great author. I got a kick out of the historical play on the heroine’s name. By all means, read the other books in this series. They are just as good. I did some reviews on the B&N web site as train_guy.

I just finished Lynette Eason’s “Critical Threat”. The first line is: “’A third victim has been found and a serial killer is once again thought to be terrorizing the Northeast—just east of the territory Peter Romanos paralyzed with his string of murders,’ Rachel Goodwin reported from her position outside the prison.”

I’m now reading “Retribution at the Ranch” by Lenora Worth. It starts “Who are you and what are you doing here?” Amelia Garcia had moved to Caddo Lake in East Texas to get away from the world.”

Critical Threat and Retribution at the Ranch both sound so good, Tim! I think I have Critical Threat coming in a print book.I don’t think I’ve read any of Lenora Worth’s books…must rectify that!

Your photo is fantastic. I love the verse, too. The Catch sounds like an exciting story. I enjoyed your review, Patricia! The first line from a book I’m reading: “I never intended to take this stroll down memory lane.” -Kathie Lee Gifford in her memoir, It’s Never Too Late.

I saw these cloud hands holding the sun right away. The clouds also look like they are holding an eyeball! Lol

The Catch by Lisa Harris was a good one. Great review! I read it many months ago. It’s about time to reread that series. Oh, so fun to reread all my treasures.

“Searching for a crack house had not been in Erica James’s plans for the evening.” This is the first line in Hide and Seek, a 2013 publication of Lynette Eason’s. I saw it on the bookshelf at the Senior center…and well one can’t just let a friend sit there all alone. So, I am borrowing it and will return it maybe with one of my extras of Lynette’s books.

Brrr, it’s cold here in E. Tennessee!

I love that hand “holding up the sun.” God has it all in His hands. Great verse to fit the picture.

I am nearing the end of The Wonder of You, book 5 in the Christiansen Family series by Susan May Warren. It starts with:
My dearest Amelia, I suspect, should you read this, it might be on the back of an elephant, while venturing through the jungles of India. Or perhaps in a dugout canoe, paddling down the Amazon. Or even, most likely, while capturing the sunrise over the grasslands of some African country.

Beautiful picture! It really does look like hands. The Catch was really good. I always enjoy Lisa’s books. I’m still reading The Rose and the Thistle by Laura Frantz. I posted the first line last week. It’s a very good book.
