Failed Protocol ~ Reader Friday

Failed Protocol by Cindi Bonds is this week’s Reader Friday. Grabbing the bleeding man’s collar, Lance Corporal Kenton Matthews yanked him from the chair and carried his limp body through the door and down the hallway.

But first the photo and verse. I took this photo of the sun setting while standing on the banks of the Mississippi in Natchez, Mississippi. There are some amazing sunsets there. And I thought the verse went well with the photo.

Now for Failed Protocol by Cindi bonds. Here’s the back copy and cover:

Failed ProtocolOlivia Lloyd left the U.K. to work in Texas as head of security for a tech firm. Her training in the British Army gave her a chance to get into the SAS—Special Air Service. But she washed out, with the help of her uncle and his contacts. Now, here at her uncle’s request, she’s lonely and miserable after running away from her last life-altering loss.

Kenton Matthews’ recon days are over. He now works as a detective in Dallas, offering assessments for security when high-value targets come to town. But a request from an old friend has his heart pounding, as the threat to the large tech firm holds more than just a breach of security.

Kenton is determined to battle the failed mission from long ago and will do everything he can to protect Olivia from facing the same torturous man her uncle faced. But can Olivia trust the one man her uncle deems more than worthy?

My take:

Wow, this story was fast-paced and full of suspense and action from the get-go. Kenton Matthews is everything you’d want in a hero–a strong moral compass, handsome, dogged, and a compelling backstory. Olivia, who likes to be called Ollie–a name Kenton refuses to call her–is a strong character as well.

I loved the tension between the two and the romance didn’t get in the way of getting the bad guy. This story is full of twists and turns as they work together to bring down a known terrorist. There are several characters who deserve their own stories, and I hope Bonds writes them.

You can purchase Failed Protocol at Amazon, and it’s available on KU.

Okay Readers, what are you reading this week? Leave the first line in the comments or just say “hi” and I’ll enter you in an April drawing for a booklight!

Next Friday there won’t be a post as I’m having a medical procedure Thursday on my heart (yes, I do have one. lol). It’s routine, but I probably won’t be up to posting. 🙂

I think I’ve shared this song in the past, but it’s running through my head so I thought I’d share it again. I hope you enjoy.

Failed Protocol sounds gripping. I love the verse you picked today, one of my favorites. I am reading Centurion Oath by George Hung. It’s a Biblical fiction story. The first lines: “Cappodocia, 17 AD. The sun beat against the Cassius estate like a blacksmith’s hammer, striking sparks from every grain of courtyard dust.” I’m enjoying it so far!

Very interesting photo, Pat. When I see a sunset like that, I always wonder if I’ll see the green flash. Conditions have to be just right. Yes, God’s strength is all we need. I will be praying you have a successful heart procedure next week, and a complete and quick recovery.

“Fatal Protocol” sounds very interesting, and I haven’t read anything by Cindy Bonds yet.

“Sheet-covered shapes loomed like ghosts in the dim light.” This is the first line from “Shatter the Silence” by Carol Post and is the second book in her Harmony Grove series. The first book was a grabber, and I’m betting this one will be too.

Praying for your procedure to go well and a speedy recovery. May God guide the doctor hands and give you peace. This is a new author to me. Blessings

I have not read anything by Cindi Bonds yet. I am reading “Steele” by Lura Scott: “Harper Crane huddled in her winter coat as she hurried along the snowy sidewalk.” It has been filled with action, mystery, and much suspense! Praying your procedure goes well.

The Statlers, one of my favorite groups as a teen entering adulthood! I still enjoy their music. I love their version of In the Garden. I have their albums – actual old vinyl records. Their religious and Christmas albums are the best. Thank you for sharing this video.

I am currently reading an ARC of a Love Inspired book by Tina Radcliffe, The Sheriff’s Secret Past. It is not a suspense. The first line is: ” “I’m back!” Emily Taylor said the words to the empty office as she heaved a packing box onto the battered oak desk.”

Have a great weekend! I will be praying for your procedure on Thursday!!

I agree with Tim. Quite an interesting photo. I immediately saw a dinosaur
(Parasaurolophus) in the sky. I don’t know much about dinosaurs, but this sure sparked my interest.

Pat, the verse is perfect!! Will definitely continue praying for the heart procedure.

Wow! Failed Protocol sounds like an awesome page-turner. Cindy Bonds is also a new-to-me author.

“Never wager unless you control the stakes, “ is the first line of the prologue in Submerged written by Dani Pettrey.

Prayers, Pat, for a successful heart procedure and a rapid and complete recovery!
Love the photo, and enjoyed listening to the song, another oldie.
I’ll try to check out Failed Protocol – sounds like a good one.
Just finished reading Irene Hannon’s Harbor Pointe, bk. 12 in her Hope Harbor Series. While my preferred genre is suspense/romance I have thoroughly enjoyed this series! Very light, enjoyable and uplifting reading.

The only problem with sunsets like that is they don’t last long enough. I enjoy listening to The Statlers. I don’t know who the pianist is, but he is good. This has been a busy week, so I haven’t finished the book I started last Friday. I hope to finish by Monday. Funny thing: reading the book has been somewhat like the story itself. I get going real good at times like when he is bicycling downhill, but then I hit one of those long uphill grades where he’s only going three miles per hour. But I’ll keep peddling, I mean reading.

I practically sang your verse (I was alone, LOL) we sang it lots in church a while back.
