Crosshairs' Ainsley Beaumont Interview; Ps51:10

Crosshairs’ Ainsley Beaumont Interview is today’s post, and I’m not certain I want to turn the blog over to her…

But first the photo and scripture. This photo was taken the morning after an all-night rain. When I went out to pickup up the papers, everything looked so clean and new. The sun was shinning against the trees, and I quickly snapped the photo. Minutes later, clouds covered the sun. If I’d waited just a few seconds longer, the opportunity would have been gone. Message to me–keep that camera ready!

As you all know (unless you’ve been hiding in a cave) Crosshairs was released this week. I’ve been all over the place, telling readers about it. My heroine, Ainsley Beaumont wanted to know why Linc got to do an interview and she didn’t. (You see, Linc is over at Anastasia Pollack’s blog this week) Since I don’t like to play favorites, I told her she could take over the blog today.

Crosshairs’ Ainsley Beaumont Interview:

Ainsley crosses her arms. “It’s about time I get to tell my side of the story.”

Your side? What do you mean?

“Well, Linc got to talk about his PTSD and how he almost killed a boy, and how he can’t use a gun any longer.”

But that didn’t happen to you.

“Maybe not, but it made him look sympathetic. There was no mention of how he helped to ruin my singing career.”

You want to talk about that?

Ainsley nods. “I was about to get my big break. I was singing backup with this famous group and they asked me to do a solo of a song I’d written. And then in the middle of the song my voice broke.”

And this was Linc’s fault…how?

She swallows hard. “Okay, maybe it wasn’t his fault, but if he’d supported me, it would’ve been different.

Ainsley, you’re the one who stressed your vocal cords. And besides, I thought you liked being an ISB ranger.

“I do. But part of me will always want to sing, and I can’t now.” She looks away. “Let’s talk about something else…like why did you have Linc helping with the investigation of the teenager who was killed? He’s not FBI any longer since he can’t carry a gun. You knew it would be hard for me to be around him.”

(hehehe) We all need to face our fears. Besides, he’s a top-notch investigator even if he’s not in law enforcement any longer. And your grandmother and great-aunt love him.

“Yeah. They keep trying to push us together.” She shakes her head. “I’m tired of talking about him.”

He’s not that bad, is he?

A faraway look crosses her face. “He really went through a lot when he almost shot that kid. And because of it, his best friend was injured and never really recovered. Hmmm. Looks like we’re back to talking about Linc again. I’m outta here.”

GOOD MUST PREVAIL WHEN EVIL WON’T QUIT…

Investigative Services Branch (ISB) ranger Ainsley Beaumont arrives in her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, to investigate the murder of a three-month-pregnant teenager. While she wishes the visit was under better circumstances, she never imagined that she would become the killer’s next target–nor that she’d have to work alongside an old flame.
After he almost killed a child, former FBI sniper Lincoln Steele couldn’t bring himself to fire a gun, which had deadly and unforeseen consequences for his best friend. Crushed beneath a load of guilt, Linc is working at Melrose Estate as an interpretive ranger. But as danger closes in on Ainsley during her murder investigation, Linc will have to find the courage to protect her. The only question is, will it be too little, too late?

I really like the picture and verse together. I enjoyed reading how it occurred. I sometimes get a view somewhat like that out my back window in the morning. Our house faces eastward, so it shines on the trees in back.

I sometimes read interviews of characters. This one was interesting. I suspect I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t already read the book and knew the story. It would have piqued my interest to read the story.

First Pat, that is a beautiful photo and a good verse to go with it. From your telling of how you almost missed the photo opportunity, you are in good company. Ansel Adams almost missed his famous “Moonrise over Hernandez, NM” because he lost the light when he was preparing for a backup shot. His one and only chance came out perfect.

I’m about 2/3 through “Crosshairs”, and was liking the Ainsley character. But after reading her interview, I’m not so sure anymore. She seems a bit self absorbed. Or maybe she’s in denial about her true feelings for Linc. I think I’ll go with the latter. I’m enjoying the story. Oh, and congratulations on finishing “Deception”. I’m looking forward to reading it when it releases.

I’m glad you’re enjoying Crosshairs, Tim! Yeah, Ainsley is denying her feelings for Linc, for sure. 😉 Thanks for stopping by. Not sure when Deception will release…maybe I’ll find out soon.

I was absorbing the breathtaking photo and Scripture, because I needed a bit of an attitude change. Next I read the interview, then the comments and scrolled back up reread the Scripture. Whoa, there was my name, a winner for October. I almost missed it!! Wow, so excited. Thank you so much. I look forward to a book from your library!

I think the interviews are a different and fun way to look at part of the story. I’m confident by the end she won’t sound so self absorbed and he will forgive himself. Beautiful pic as always. Congrats Barbara.

I think character interviews are kind of fun. It gives me an idea of whether I’d like a character in a book, and what to expect from the book too.

Fun interview! I’m looking forward to reading Crosshairs soon. It sounds really good. The verse is very fitting for the picture. I’m reading Dead Fall by Nancy Mehl. I’m really enjoying it so far. John Davis turned up the collar on his jacket as he swiftly walked away from the shrill voices bleeding through from the hotel banquet hall behind him.

I do like character interviews, they’re always fun! You get to see a bit of their personality outside of the book 🙂

Here’s the first line of the book I started last night:

I’m glad you enjoyed the character interviews, Trixi! It was fun to do. I usually interview my characters before I start writing to find out what deep dark secrets they’re hiding…
