Critical Threat ~ Reader Friday

.Critical Threat, A Christian Romantic Suspense Collection (Honor Bound Hearts Book 2) Here’s the first line of Virginia Vaughn’s story, Deadly Homecoming Threat: Julia Holloway unfolded her last pair of fatigues, then hung them in the closet.

But first the photo and verse. I took the photo as I drove to a water aerobics class early one morning. Had to pull over and get out of the car, and I was late to class. But it was really worth it. 🙂 The verse has always been a favorite.

Now for Deadly Homecoming Threat by Virginia Vaughn, the first story in Critical Threat, Here’s the cover and back cover copy:

Deadly Homecoming Threat – Virginia Vaughan

After a deadly final assignment claims her K-9 partner, retired military police officer Julia Holloway returns to her hometown of Pine Haven to heal—only to become the target of a series of escalating attacks. Sheriff Wade Oxley, her former high school boyfriend, is determined to protect his town and the woman he never forgot. As Julia’s military skills prove someone is hunting her with purpose, she and Wade must uncover whether the threat is rooted in their small town—or the deadly mission Julia thought she left behind.
Blast Radius – Elle E. Kay
When a sophisticated bomber targets K9 units at Eglin Air Force Base, an isolated Military Working Dog handler and a haunted EOD technician are forced into a joint mandate. Riley Shaw trusts no one but her Belgian Malinois, Ares. While Evan relies on mathematical precision to atone for a catastrophic cover-up in Kandahar. As the bomber weaponizes classified EOD techniques to turn their sanctuary into a psychological warzone, their professional defenses are stripped away. To neutralize the threat, these two broken experts must surrender their illusions of control and place complete faith in each other and ultimately in God.

Fatal Recall – Sarah Hamaker
When Nola Johnson suffers a sudden allergic reaction in front of Army veteran Patterson Marlowe, his quick actions save her life. But Patterson soon realizes the frightening truth—Nola’s medical emergency wasn’t an accident. Someone is trying to kill her.
Patterson appoints himself Nola’s protector, determined to uncover who’s targeting the kindhearted woman and her loyal therapy dog, Molly. But Nola has no idea why anyone would want her dead. As Patterson and Nola scramble to find answers, their partnership grows into something deeper.
Will solving the case bring them together—or leave one of them dead?

My take on Deadly Homecoming Threat by Virginia Vaughn:

I started this book and could not put it down until I finished it at midnight. It was that good. Virginia Vaughn has written a great story with twists and turns you won’t see coming. It is a great romantic suspense, and the romance doesn’t get in the way of the mystery.

Vaughn had created strong characters in Julia Holloway and Wade Oxley. Readers will be rooting for Julia as she battles an unknown attacker. And for Wade as he tries to track the attacker down. I enjoyed watching their romance rekindle and seeing Julia come to grips with her hometown. It’s a great read. You can read it in KU or purchase it here.

Now for today’s song: These are some of my favorite singers. I hope you enjoy!

That verse goes so well with your beautiful photo, Pat. Something we need to remember each day. Let the sunrise be our reminder!

Wasn’t “Critical Threat” a great series? Both of the Honor Bound Hearts anthologies were top notch.

I’m currently reading “When the Silence Breaks” by Elizabeth Goddard. The first line is “Secrets can’t stay buried forever. The road into the North Cascades was narrow, twisting just like the path Sarah Ellison had chosen.” This is the first in the Mercy Ridge series. Ms Goddard just keeps writing great books.

I’m glad you pulled over and took the picture. The result is beautiful. Critical Threat sounds like an exciting anthology! I am reading a Christian police-procedural/suspense novel called Playing Saint by Zachary Bartels. The first line: Danny sat quietly in the pew and waited for his exorcism.

I actually had to get out and walk to the top of the bridge, Priscilla. 🙂 The things we do for a photo! Wow! what an opening line on Playing Saint! I’ll have to check it out.

That verse is one of my favorites too! I’m currently reading The Targeted by Cara Putman. “Very few decisions could alter the course of your life, but Chloe Ainsworth had one staring her down.”
After finishing Theo of Golden I learned a couple of things. Negotiations are in place to make a movie of the book staring Tom Hanks. I also learned he has turned a second book into the publisher titled “Ellen”.

Critical Threat sounds like a really great read. I like Virginia’s books, but haven’t read many—yet! 🙂

Just finished reading Finding Marie, by Susan Page Davis, a new -to- me author. This was a book I had hidden in the archives of my shelves. It was written in 2007. Quite intriguing and suspenseful, but not a gripping first line, so I didn’t list it, but worth the read!

I’ve read a lot of Susan Page Davis’ books…known her since about 2011…she has quite a few books out now. I’ll see if I have any when I’m in Corinth and get them for you. 😉
