Anchoring You ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday Leave a Comment

Anchoring You by Robin Patchin is this week’s Reader Friday. After Tim’s recommendation and a couple of other readers saying they were going to read it, I did, too. It’s a great read! Here’s the first line: Kenzie Wright stood at the helm and scanned the horizon, nothing but sea and sky in every direction.

Tim was right–this was a very calm opening for what happened next! But first the photo and verse. After I listened to the song Edward referenced on Tuesday, I had to use it. 🙂 So, I found another Roan Mountain photo and Voila! I hope you enjoy the graphic and song!

Now for Anchoring You by Robin Patchin. Here’s the cover (that I love) and the back copy:

Anchoring You by Robin Patchen“An action-packed romantic mystery with emotional weight.” —BookLife by Publishers Weekly

On the glittering waters of the Caribbean, a yacht captain’s fight for survival forces her to rely on a man she swore she’d never trust.

A fiercely independent yacht captain, Kenzie Wright has spent her life disregarding her family’s expectations. She thrives on freedom, charting her own course, and never staying in one place—or with one person—for long. But when a routine voyage thrusts her into the crosshairs of a deadly drug cartel, her carefully crafted agenda is blown apart. Her last hope to save herself and her crew is the partying playboy, Jaz.

DEA informant Jasper Aylett has spent years hunting the cartel leader known only as the Ghost. The mission has cost him everything—his family, his reputation, and his chance at redemption. When a beautiful yacht captain gets caught in the Ghost’s web, Jaz risks his life to rescue her. It’s his last chance to secure the information he needs to take his enemy down—and get his life back.

Kenzie is forced into hiding with Jaz, and now two cartels want her dead. With their lives on the line, Kenzie and Jaz must work together to unravel the Ghost’s network before it’s too late. But the closer they get to the truth—and to each other—the more their past wounds and buried fears threaten to tear them apart, leaving them vulnerable to an enemy who won’t stop until they’re both destroyed.

My take:

Oh, my! This was one exciting read that kept me reading way longer each night than I needed to. I immediately liked the two main characters, Kenzie and Jaz. Both brought a lot of emotional baggage into the story that I could identify with. The suspense kept me flipping the pages, wanting to see how they were going to get out of it each time someone came after them.

I loved the way the faith element played into the story with Kenzie’s strong faith and Jaz thinking he didn’t deserve God’s love or forgiveness. This is book 9 of 10, but you don’t have to read the others first–I didn’t get lost at all. That said, I will be reading the others. Robin Pachen is a great writer.

Okay, Readers, what are you reading this week? Leave the title or first line in the comments.  I’ll enter you in a drawing for a $10 gift card from Amazon…or someplace else…

Here’s the song Edward referenced last Monday, and it is AMAZING!
