Today’s Mystery Question: More Dumb Criminals

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 40 Comments

Welcome to Mystery Question Tuesday about four dumb criminals, but first, another photo, this time from my first cruise, one with my daughters and granddaughter. This scripture is so comforting these days.

This week’s Mystery Question was fun, but then it’s always fun to find dumb criminals. Problem is, sometimes it’s hard for me to come up with the made-up one. 🙂

Now for last week’s Mystery Question: As usual four stories about dumb criminals, three true, and the one I made up. Can you guess which one?
  1.  An armed robber took a man’s watch and money, but after he examined the watch, decided it was a “fake” and handed the watch back to the victim. While his victim quickly reported the mugging to police, the robber stopped to play soccer at a nearby field, where he was still playing when police arrived and arrested him.
  2. On Father’s Day, a kid was playing around with his dad’s old handcuffs (He used to be a security agent), and the dad let his son handcuff him. It was kind of cute until they couldn’t find the key. Then the dad called the local police and they came and uncuffed him. Then…as the police are wont to do, they ran the man through their database and found two outstanding arrest warrants. A few minutes later they were putting the handcuffs on the dad, for real this time.
  3. A savvy grandmother played along when her “grandson” called, saying he needed money or he’d go to jail. After agreeing to send the gift cards once she purchased them, the scammer told her he would call her back in two hours. Instead of buying gift cards, the granny called the police who put a tap on her phone and traced the call to a location in another state, where local police arrested him.
  4. A man was tackled by customers as he attempted to rob a bank shortly after it opened. Several customers had noticed him waiting outside for the bank to open—already wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mask. The man had then meekly waited in line for his turn before snatching money from a teller and running.

And the answer is…#3. I should have made the grandmother have a connection to the police department to get such quick service. lol

Now onto this week’s Mystery Question. As usual, four stories about dumb criminals, three true. Leave your guess as to the made-up one in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!
  1. A serial bank robber was known for his red beard, so he decided to wear a disguise–a red beard to cover up his red beard. He was arrested after police recognized his getaway car as belonging to a previous bank robbery with a…you guessed it–a man with a red beard.
  2. A man under investigation for stealing over five hundred thousand dollars left his car parked near a river. Inside the car was a suicide note. A body was never found, at least not a dead body. The man was found alive and well a few months later in Canada after he was pulled over for speeding. When the driver’s license he gave the officer was run through the system, it kicked out an outstanding warrant for the name on the license. Lesson: When you buy forged documents, make sure they have a clean record.
  3. A man broke into a newsroom and watched movies and checked Facebook on their computer. Then he sprayed the room with a fire extinguisher, grabbed some candy and left.  It wasn’t difficult to find him, however; the police just followed the trail of stolen M&Ms that led to his sister’s place nearby.
  4. A bank robber sent emails to local police, ridiculing their efforts to arrest him. He let them know they had his age, build, and accent wrong. Then he said no, he hadn’t escaped on foot–he had a getaway car! The police had the last laugh. They caught him a few hours after the last email. They used his email to trace him.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

Great photo and verse, Pat. Did you ever watch a sunset and see the “green flash”? It’s pretty rare.

As usual, you’ve found some zany ones for us. I think the least zany one is #2, so that’s the one I’m picking this week.

Thanks, Tim. You know I’ve never seen that flash of green and I’ve looked for it! And we’ll see next week if it’s Edward’s favorite, #2. Always good to see you here.

Love the picture! It seems since retirement that the only time I want to get up early is when we’re at the beach and want to see the sunrise. At home, trees, houses, etc. block the view.

I have to go back to #2. I’m surprised he didn’t get caught before leaving the country. Whether he drove or flew, it seems they would have checked his ID, passport, etc. I haven’t traveled outside the country so I don’t really know much about that process. I agree with Tim that they are all zany. Not a smart crook in the bunch. 🙂

Hi Edward…love your logic as always! And you’ve given me my title for next week and the keyword for Google to find the post. lol We’ll see if it’s #2 next week. Good to ‘see’ you here.

Well, it’s hard for me to guess the correct one every week, Patricia, so we’re in the same boat, lol!

For this week, you guessed it, it’s another hard choice. But I have to go with #1 just because of the irony of the case. Who knows though, right? HAHA!

I love your picture, sunsets are some of my favorite. How God paints the sky in so many vivid colors….changing every few minutes 🙂 I think the only thing that would top that for me, is a sky full of twinkling stars! Our skies are often too cloudy to see them. I love finding constellations, and playing dot-to-dot with them 🙂

Thanks for always challenging us with these mystery questions! It keeps my mind sharp.

Hi Trixi! In the winter when I pick up the paper, the overhead sky is filled with stars. I can usually pick out the little dipper and find the North Star. While it’s not cloudy here at night, the skies aren’t quite as bright as in the winter. We’ll see next week if it’s #1.

I do not have a clue. Guess I will go with #4. Thanks for the photo and verse. Especially good to remember during these times.
