This Week’s Mystery Question & it’s Release Day for Standoff!

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 52 Comments

Joshua 1:9 has long been a favorite verse of mine. Can you imagine how the children of Israel felt after Moses died and they were about to cross the Jordan River into unknown territory? Can you imagine how Joshua felt? While we’re not in the same place the Israelites were, we are in uncharted territory, and this is a verse we can let guide us.

I am so excited that today is launch day for Standoff! I truly hope you all like it! Releasing a book during COVID19 is proving to be a challenge. But, I know God has this.

Now onto last week’s Mystery Question: Four insurance claims again. Three are true, one is made up. Can you tell which one I made up?
  1. “I came around a corner while cycling to work and was run off the road by a herd of guinea pigs. I broke my arm.”
  2. “I had my window down and was listening to the radio when a candle fly flew in and landed on my dashboard. I didn’t see the ditch coming because I was trying to catch the candle fly.”
  3. “I rear-ended the car in front of me and smashed the taillight. I then reversed slightly so I could see the damage, but hit the front bumper of the driver behind me. Then I opened my door to exit the vehicle and knocked down a passing cyclist.”
  4. “The accident was caused by me waving to a man I hit last week.”

And the answer is #2. Congrats on everyone who guessed correctly! By the way, a candle fly is a moth.

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: These are stupid things people did to get arrested. Three are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one it is?
  1. A man forgot where his car was parked, so he reported it missing. Then he found it but didn’t inform the police. You guessed it. He drove to another state and was arrested for driving a stolen car.
  2. A couple of men climbed a microwave tower in the middle of town. They didn’t get caught, but they did startle a large flock of pigeons roosting in the tower which resulted in the birds flying…and leaving a mess in the men’s hair which resulted in the men yelling at the birds. Which resulted in waking the security guard…they still had mess in their hair when they posted bail the next morning.
  3. A teenage boy had to buy a police officer a new pair of pants after the officer didn’t quite clear the fence the teen jumped. He was also charged with criminal mischief.
  4. A man went to court to testify for a friend but ended up arrested when he had to empty his pockets after the metal detector alarmed. He forgot he had a small plastic bag of cocaine in the same pocket as his keys.

Okay, Mystery Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library. April’s winner is Caryl Kane!

Today is the last day to enter the Rafflecopter! I’m giving away a $100 gift card and 2 copies of Standoff!

I think number four. Unless every person who goes to court sets off the alarm with their keys, it doesn’t really make sense. Also, why would you put cocaine in a pocket with your keys? The keys might break the plastic, ‘wasting’ your cocaine. But if it’s true, that’s incredibly stupid!!

Pat, congratulations on your book release. And what a coincidence! I finished DiAnn Mills’ “Airborne” (great book!) last night, and started “Standoff” early this AM. Just in time delivery.

OK, these mystery questions are the hardest to figure out yet. I think #1 has probably happened, though perhaps not exactly as stated. #3 is a plausible punishment for a delinquent boy, #4 has likely happened, though again, perhaps not exactly as stated.

That leaves #2. To me, this has got to be the dumbest stunt of the year, if true. Were they stoned? But, the tip-off to me is at the beginning it says they weren’t caught. However, they spent the night in jail with the “fruits” of their labor; so they were caught. I’m saying you made up #2.

I think I meant they weren’t caught climbing the tower, Tim…sorry if that misled you. 🙂 But I might have made it up. lol. As always I love yours and Edward’s logic. It’s actually helping me with my writing to see how men’s minds work. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by!

I’m choosing #3. I don’t see a real reason to arrest the teen. Surely he wasn’t charged with criminal mischief because the officer couldn’t jump the fence and tore his pants. Unless something important has been omitted, I think the officer should have let it drop.

I enjoyed Standoff and have already shared my review on several sites. Looking forward to book 2.

Thank you, Delores! It was a great launch for Standoff and I have my readers, my agent, and the staff at Revell to thank for that. And we’ll see if it’s #4 next week.

I’m going to go with #2 this week. Congrats on your book release, I loved “Standoff”!

The scripture is a good one for our times today. I often can feel alone, but I have to remember that God is with me by my side in spite of my feelings. I often struggle with this, so having reminders of God’s word and His promise that He never leaves me nor forsakes me are so important to me. 🙂
