Someone Really Did This? — Mystery Question

Isaiah 40:31

Someone Really Did This? is this week’s Mystery Question. I know every week I say the true stories are getting stranger and stranger, but it’s true. I’m still shaking my head over these.

But first the photo from Unsplash by Jenny Hill, and the Scripture. As I thought about this verse, I thought about the running and walking part instead of the wings of eagles part. Mostly because we walk and run more than we soar. This was a favorite of my neighbor’s when she was recovering from pancreatitis. she said each day it was a matter of putting one foot in front of the other and keep going.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question–Would You Do This? Three of these stories are true. I made up one…if I can think up something this crazy.
  1. What initially started out as a single traffic violation turned into additional charges. Police clocked a woman going 91 miles an hour and pulled her over.  When he attempted to give her a ticket, she jerked the ticket book out of his hand, then rolled her window up on his arm when he reached for it. Then she put the car in drive and ran over his foot. The judge set bail at $40,000.
  2. What is your favorite different thing to do? Some of us like to read or sew or quilt or walk or run or jog.
One woman in Southeast Missouri decided to borrow a hearse for about an hour. Then she returned it to its owners and called the police to tell them what she had done. The police are still deciding about charges.
  3. She thought no one would look at her face if she wore a clown suit with the big shoes. At least that’s what she told police after they arrested her for robbing the bank she normally used. Now she’s looking at five to ten years in prison for attempted bank robbery.
  4. In Virginia, a man thought it would be funny to post a video of himself holding a gun on YouTube. Someone who didn’t think it was funny alerted police, who discovered the gun was not registered. Police charged him with a federal crime because it was manufactured outside of Virginia.

And the answer is…#3. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question–Someone Really Did This? Three of these stories are true. I made up one…if I can think up something this crazy.
  1. Some criminals are just really dumb, then there are others who are just unlucky. The burglar in this story is the latter one. After successfully breaking into a house and stealing a woman’s jewelry, he then picked a boutique to try and sell the items. The only problem was, the woman who owned the boutique also owned the jewelry he stole.
  2. Authorities reported a man tried to break into the jail to visit his friends. First, he rammed his car into the door, then tried to climb the fence to get in. Police arrested him when he got tangled in the fence’s razor wire.
  3. Police arrested a man for getting into a fight with his family over a pork chop – three months after throwing one at his mother because she wouldn’t buy him cigarettes.
  4. Two men broke into a friend’s house looking for drugs. They found a vase and a bag of gray powder in a bag. When their friend arrived home, he found them snorting the powder and asked why they were messing with his dog’s cremains.
Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a March drawing for a $10 gift card.

Now I’m off to write my newsletter. If you haven’t signed up for it, you can do so at the top of the page in the right corner. You’ll get a free novella–Revenge. And every month I include a recipe and recommend books I’ve enjoyed in the post.

OH! Wait! For our readers who are also writers, there’s a great writer’s conference this weekend. It’s virtual and you can attend in your pajamas if you’d like. 🙂 You can check it out here. But if you’re interested, you need to hurry because registration ends Thursday night!

And…the day before, I’m teaching a workshop with Johnnie Alexander! That’s on Friday March 18, 2022. Here’s the blurb and link: I’d love to see you there!

My guess is #2. Who would go to those lengths to visit a friend in jail. I believe the one about the pork chops. Our county actually had a case a few years ago where a teen shot & killed his brother over a honeybun

Let’s go with #4 this week. I don’t know where you find all these crazy things! Lol Makes you realize how interesting people are! My assistant and I often say we should write a book on the things our students do and say! I think of that when I read these!

Andrea, you definitely should write a book about the things your students do and say! They can really come out with outrageous things. lol We’ll see next week if it’s #4.

  3. Barbara Diggs

I was about to take a sip of coffee when I read #4 and totally burst out laughing! I put down the cup, so I could thoroughly enjoy the moment…..still giggling

These are hard and all believable, so I decided to go with #1 to “support” the unlucky burglar.

The photo looks like one of the roads I walked each day when I was in Moldova. So I feel a bit transported right now. Great verse to go with the photo, Pat.

Oh Pat, how do you find these?! I’m going with #4 in part because I hope it’s NOT true! A similar situation to #1 happened locally. A burglar broke into a home and stole a uniquely designed jewelry piece filled with precious stones. He took it to a jewelry store to sell. The problem was the jeweler immediately recognized the unique piece he had designed and created himself. Not the great outcome the crook had hoped for because I’m sure he had already had $$$$ in mind he would take home. No $$$$ and he didn’t see home again for a while!

I missed that one, Debra! As for where I get them, they are everywhere on the Internet. I always try to verify the real ones…unfortunately, they are easily verified. And it’s getting so hard to come up with one to compete. lol We’ll see next week if it’s #4.

Sometimes I feel like I’m running so fast I don’t have time to wait on the Lord. Then He slows me down, and I find waiting on Him gives me the strength I needed all along. Thanks for the photo and verse. So true. Life is sure a lot easier when we wait on Him.

Thank you for the laughs today. I think you made them all up! I’m going with #1 this time, though it’s certainly possible for a thief to make that mistake. And that other guy really needs to stay away from pork chops.

I just finished Lynn Blackburn’s “Malicious Intent”. This is one of the best Christian suspense books I’ve read this year. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I.have.got.to.read Malicious Intent! So many books and so little time. lol. I love that verse and thought I’d take a different path than a photo of an eagle, which I have used in the past. So many times we want to soar like the eagle when God wants us to walk with Him.

I’m so glad my post gave you some laughs! That was my intent. Although I will say making one up is getting harder and harder. Well see next week if the answer is #1. 😉

I pick number 4 because I HOPE you made up that one. How terrible for the doggy parents! Oh, I wish I could attend the writer’s conference…I have grandbaby duty. (But that’s fun, too!)

I love that verse although I’m not now nor have I ever been a runner, except for running around in circles in my daily life. LOL! I love the part about mounting on wings like eagles. If I was a runner, the picture would hold more appeal. I always hated in Phys. Ed. when the teacher would tell us to run laps. I get winded very quickly, and ever more now than ever before.

I am choosing #1. I think the others sound dumb enough to be true. This one is the most believable so I think you made it up.
