Really Really Dumb Criminals 17 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 47 Comments

I’m on the road again…right now I’m in Chattanooga with my sister, and we’re having a great time, even though someone backed into me at Cosco! Minor damage to my light cover, but I met the most delightful woman.  Maybe a minor bump up will be the avenue to a great friendship.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question and answer:

After 13 years of dead ends in a murder case in a small town, the police had no other option than to quit investigating and move on to more pressing issues … that is, until someone tried something different. Was the murderer caught because:

  1. A detective handed out playing cards to prisoners, but instead of the regular face cards, he had the victim’s photo and information about the murder printed on them and offered a reward, and a prisoner who had witnessed the crime turned the murderer in.
  2. A detective set up a box where people could leave suggestions anonymously, and the murderer left a confession in pencil, signed his name, then erased it, but using sophisticated equipment, police were able to pull out the name.
  3. Police asked everyone in town to submit to a DNA test, and almost everyone complied, including one person whose DNA matched a sample from the crime scene.
  4. Police took photos of a bite mark on the victim to local dentists to see if any of their patients were a match.

And the answer is…drumroll please… #3. Can you believe the killer willingly gave his DNA?? Here are the details.

Now for this week’s Mystery Question about Criminals and Their Getaway Cars.  Three of the following statements are true, and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. Carjackers took a man’s car and had to abandon it because they couldn’t drive a stick shift.
  2. Police caught two people at a Tesla charging station suspected of stealing more than $8000 in electronics from a store a mere 10 miles away. Seems they forgot to charge their getaway car before the job.
  3. After stealing over $5,000 worth of tools and stuffing them in his backpack, the thief called an Uber to pick him up in front of the store he was robbing. Unfortunately, the Uber driver was late, but the police were not.
  4. A woman discovered her Tesla had been stolen. Her app showed the location of her car with the battery range down to 15 miles. Police followed the stolen car until it ran out of power and came to a stop.

Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

This is one of my favorite songs from Elvis. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard one of the AI songs played on social media, but if you listen to this song and then listen to one of the AI songs, you can see such a difference. Those AI songs have no soul!

I hope you have a great week!

Beautiful photo of flower and good choice for the matching Scripture, Pat.
I can hear it now, “Dear, you’ll never guess who I ran into today. It was that nice author of Christian suspense novels. You know, Patricia Bradley.” 🙂

    On to the crazies…
#1. Stick shift driving is a dying art. Moral of the story” buy a stick and reduce crime.
#2. Add charging car battery to thief’s check list.
#3. Uh. Planning is the key to success.
    #4. Isn’t technology wonderful?
I think Pricilla is on to something here. I’m going with #3 as well. Only the dumbest of the dumb would leave the get-away in the hands of an Uber ride.

I agree about AI generated songs and stories. I find them very stilted and it doesn’t take long before I move on to something done by a human.

Yes! Magnolias are gorgeous and smell so good. Loved our visit, too! Oh, the joys of friendship!

What a beautiful picture! I have always loved Elvis’s religious songs. There was such depth of feeling in those songs.

I am torn as to which scenario you made up but am going with #3 because someone planning to steal that amount of stuff should have their getaway transportation ready and waiting.

I had a hard time choosing which one was made up but decided on #3. It seems as if someone planning to steal all that stuff would have had the getaway transportation ready and waiting.

Sorry for the double comments! I didn’t think the first one went through. I apologize for posting twice.

Beautiful magnolia blossom! I agree with Barbara that it signifies perfect peace.
I can’t believe I guessed correctly 2 wks. in a row. I’m lucky if I guess correctly twice every 6 mos. Lol I do enjoy reading these dumb crimes, Pat, and you are very creative in the ones you make up!

I’m going with #1. How did they actually steal the car if none of them could drive a stick?
My daughter and son in law bought the house across the street from us partly because my daughter wanted a magnolia tree and there was a huge one in the front yard. (We get the dead leaves blown into our yard often). The only Grammy Elvis ever won was for his gospel music. I love his fast and catchy gospel songs. One example: I Gonna Walk that Milky White Way Oh Lord One of These Days.

The picture is so peaceful. The verse definitely fits.

I totally misread your directions last week. You specifically asked: “Was the murderer caught because:” I guess I’m so accustomed to you asking us which one did you make up that I chose the one I thought you made up. In reality, I chose one of the three you made up.

I am choosing #3. I won’t fault the guy for attempting to use Uber as his getaway method. But it makes no sense to call Uber after committing the crime. Get Uber scheduled ahead of time so the car is there when you need it.

AI is like practically everything else that is artificial. It isn’t REAL.

Edward, I worried that some might misread the question and that’s why I probably won’t do any more of those type questions. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the photo and verse. We’ll see next week if you got the right answer this week!

      1. Edward Arrington

Pat, don’t hold back just because some people don’t read the directions. That’s on us, not on you. I worked in technology where reading directions first is important. I talked to a branch manager many years ago about her failure to read and follow directions, which I had taken several hours to prepare step by step. Her response when I told her it was all right there in the directions: “I don’t have time to read directions.”

Oh, Edward, how frustrating that must have been! I don’t always read the directions, even though I learned long ago it’d save time if I did. ;-D
