Really Really Dumb Criminals 16 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 42 Comments

Really Really Dumb Criminals 16 is this week’s Mystery Question. I can’t believe how many posts I’ve gotten from these dumb criminals. lol

But first the photo and verse. I took this from a balcony in Destin, Florida, many years ago. I love the way everything looks just before dark, especially at the ocean. And I love that verse.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question, Really Really Dumb Criminals 15. This one is a little different. Because I don’t have internet access, I “borrowed” one from years back. See if you remember it or can guess which one I made up.

A man was arrested for possession of cocaine. Was it because:

  1. He offered a bag to an undercover officer.
  2. He took it to the police station and demanded that the person who sold it to him be arrested for selling him substandard cocaine.
  3. He put it up for sale on Craig’s List, thinking no one would report him. His first buyer was an undercover DEA officer.
  4. He got caught speeding and tried to bribe the highway patrolman with it.

And the answer is…#2. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question, again one from the archives because after being put to sleep, and getting ready to visit my sister, I just ran out of time. 🙂

After 13 years of dead ends in a murder case in a small town, the police had no other option than to quit investigating and move on to more pressing issues … that is, until someone tried something different. Was the murderer caught because:

  1. A detective handed out playing cards to prisoners, but instead of the regular face cards, he had the victim’s photo and information about the murder printed on them and offered a reward, and a prisoner who had witnessed the crime turned the murderer in.
  2. A detective set up a box where people could leave suggestions anonymously, and the murderer left a confession in pencil, signed his name, then erased it, but using sophisticated equipment, police were able to pull out the name.
  3. Police asked everyone in town to submit to a DNA test, and almost everyone complied, including one person whose DNA matched a sample from the crime scene.
  4. Police took photos of a bite mark on the victim to local dentists to see if any of their patients were a match, and one was a match.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one is it? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

I’m really excited to tell you about this audio sale! You can get Counter Attack in audio form for 60% off only until May 5…so don’t wait!

Here’s a song I hope you’ll enjoy. It really lifts my spirit, and The Oak Ridge Boys are one of my favorite groups!

Oh mercy! These are really far out, but quite clever. Lol Going with #3 because it seems a bit presumptuous to have everyone in town do a DNA test. How could they be sure they got everyone?

    Beautiful photo!
The Oak Ridge Boys do great on this song.
It’s hard to believe any of these are true, but I’ll guess #3

That photo is stunning. It makes me think of the Holy Spirit moving over the deep just as the Word spoke light into existence at the Creation. The Scripture you chose says it all.

I really don’t know what to make of the four attempts to solve this cold case murder.
#1. The playing cards with the victim’s photo would probably shake up a witness, but what are the chances the witness would be in jail after 13 years?
#2. I know these are dumb criminals, but writing a confession, signing then erasing his name? I don’t buy it.
#3. Got to be a small town to get nearly everyone, including the murderer, to submit their DNA for a match? That seems like a sure fire way to get caught.
#4. Matching a bite mark on the victim to dental records seems more than a bit far fetched.
Arrgh. I’ve got to go with #4 as the one you made up. Seems too flakey.

Great verse! That is a beautiful picture. Wow! As Bill Gaither would say: “If that song doesn’t light a fire in your soul, your wood is wet.”
    1. If I witnessed a murder and ended up in prison for any reason, I don’t think it would take me very long to learn what happens to snitches in prison. I would think the chances of hiding in prison are much less than on the outside. If I’ve kept quiet for 13 years, why run my mouth now and risk the payback.
    2. May be a possibility since more sophisticated equipment is being invented all the time.
    3. Another maybe since DNA testing keeps improving and the number of samples on file continues growing.
    4. Teeth have been used to identify deceased persons for decades. It seems this would have been checked out in the early stages of the investigation.

I am choosing #1. I can’t see that happening unless the reward was a mighty sweet deal that would get the person far away where the murderer could never find him.

I am going with #3 because it would take way too long to have DNA run for that samples and then to see if any matched.
