Really Crazy Crimes–Mystery Question

Really Weird Crimes; Psalm 29:2

Really Crazy Crimes is this week’s Mystery Question. I cannot believe what some people will do. It was really difficult to come up with a made-up one to match these! But first the photo and scripture.

The Scripture verse came to my mind when I snapped this at the beach somewhere near Flagler, Florida. One town morphed into the other until I had no clue where I was. 🙂 When I look at His beauty, I am awed by His love for us to provide a scene like this.

I had a really wonderful time with my family. It was so much fun watching the two little ones chase the waves. We had a lot of fun walking the streets in downtown St. Augustine…but I never found the Fountain of Youth. lol We did explore the grounds of the fort there. I may post photos next week. But first I have to turn in edits to the first book in the new series!!

When I return in September I truly hope I can fly. Sixteen hundred miles is a lot to drive!

Now for Really Crazy Crimes–this week’s Mystery Question. As usual, three are true and one is made up. Can you guess which one?
  1. A woman was accused of offering another Walmart shopper up to half a million dollars to purchase her baby. The woman offered the money because she wanted a blue-eyed blond-haired baby boy. The mother claims that the woman followed her out to the parking lot where a video camera verified her claims.
  2. Over the weekend, a man broke into a house in an upscale neighborhood. When the owners returned, they found their liquor cabinet had been emptied and an IOU from the thief. Written on the back of one of his ex-wife’s deposit slips, no less. She recognized the handwriting and had no trouble pointing police to where he was staying.
  3. A New York man tried to fake his own death to avoid sentencing for two felonies. Prosecutors unraveled the ruse by a typo. Authorities grew suspicious after they noticed the word “registry” had been misspelled on the death certificate provided by the alleged dead man’s fiancé. It was spelled “Regsitry” instead.
  4. A man had just been released from jail when police say he stole hundreds of dollars worth of camera equipment from a California business. He then approached a man on the street and tried to sell the equipment, unfortunately for the thief, to the owner he’d just burgled. When the man recognized his equipment he called the authorities.
Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a $10 gift card… or a copy of Deception when I get my copies!

When Natchez Trace Park Ranger MadDeception, Book 4 in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers seriesison Thorn arrives in Natchez to investigate a white-collar scheme, she has no idea she will be thrown back into the violent crimes division–or that it will get so personal. She’ll have to work with her childhood-enemy-turned-handsome-charmer to unravel the clues before it’s too late.

Mary, I’m always surprised at the audacity some people have, especially when it’s taken to extremes…not saying number one is true, but it’s a great example of how some people feel everyone has a price. And we’ll see next week if it’s #4. 🙂

#2. No real reason. All are crazy! 1 is sad but unfortunately, these days I can see it. Surprised, she didn’t try to steal the baby. That seems to be what happens.

So glad you had good family time! We all need that! I’ve been with family the last few weeks. It’s been good! I’m soaking up as much summer as I can! School comes around all too quickly!

Pat, I’m glad you had such a great time in Florida with your family. So many new memories for you. As much as I dislike flying these days (I used to love it), I’m sure it beats driving all that way, and back again!

I’m vacillating between #1 and #4. #1 is despicable, and with #4, is there any camera equipment these days worth only hundreds that would be identified as stolen? I suppose if the owner recognized the brands and had already inventoried the stolen items, but would he have had enough time to do it? Hmm. I’m going to say you made up #1. Half a million seems like a lot on the spur of the moment, and the whole thing seems too audacious to be true.

I had a wonderful time, Tim, and the 1600 miles were roundtrip. Don’t think I could drive that far one way. lol. Although driving doesn’t bother me at all. I seem to get in the ‘zone’ and the miles just click off. We’ll see if your great logic is correct next week. 🙂

As a former insurance fraud investigator, I believe all of these could happen. I’m going to vote that number 2 is the one made up. Pat, you are such a fun person, any of these are possible from that sharp brain of yours. Can’t wait to know the correct answer!

Glad you had fun with the family, Pat, and are safely home. 1600 miles is a Looooooonnnng drive.

Loved the Scripture and the photo. My eyes were immediately drawn to the clouds! Did you see the two big polar bears lying on their backs with their feet in the air?

On to the mysteries. Are four are believable, but I’m going with #2, hoping it was a slight sign of remorse to write an IOU. Smart woman to recognize the handwriting.

    All of these

Yes, 1600 miles is a long way–and the mileage is roundtrip. Traffic on the Interstates is murder, especially around the cities. But it was worth every mile. 😉 And we’ll see next week if it’s #2.

Don’t know where those three words came from at the end. I also hit send before adding my email. Maybe that’s why???

Glad you had good trip, safe! Can’t wait to read your new book! #1 makes me shudder ..but I will choose it.

I am guessing #3. St. Augustine is a fun place to visit and has good places to eat. The lighthouse is a great but hard to climb all those steps.

Great picture and verse. I love pictures of clouds, especially the white, fluffy ones.

I’m glad you saw the fort, but the important question is whether you visited the lighthouse. That’s always my first stop if there is one close by.

#1 seems off. I struggle to see someone offering up to a half million dollars to another Walmart shopper for a baby. Considering that it costs that much and more to rear a child, put them through college, and help them get a good start in life, that’s a steep price to pay even in a legal transaction. There is no indication that the one offering to buy knew anything about the child other than it being a blue-eyed, blond-haired baby boy.

As always I love your logic, Edward. We’ll see how it goes next week. I don’t remember if I saw the lighthouse…I was very tired the day we went to St. Augustine. lol But it is a beautiful little city.

Oh my goodness I really hope #1 is NOT true because that’s truly awful & unthinkable!

I love pictures of the beach, even though I live so close to one. The scripture you used is perfect as always. I hope you do get to fly when you go back in September! It sounds like you had a lot of fun 🙂

Oh those beautiful clouds and the ocean! I kept thinking about all that salt air that was there too. Thank you for all you bring Pat!!! Family time is the Best and I’m so happy you enjoyed a big dose of yours!

    I’m guessing #3. #1 is frightening! I think I’d been calling 911! Whew!

Your new book is intriguing and I’m definitely looking forward to reading it once it’s out.
