More Dumb Laws 4 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 60 Comments

More Dumb Laws 4 is the Mystery Question for this week. I’m enjoying these so much I’m camping out on them. But first the photo and verse.

I was scrolling though my photos when I came across this one taken by my granddaughter, Ashley. *sigh* It made me really want to be in Florida with my daughter and grands! Maybe soon, once the deadline is met. November is a good time to visit Florida! And the verse came from my pastor’s sermon Sunday…

Now for last week’s Mystery Question ~ More Dumb Laws 3. Once again (mainly becuase I’m under a deadline to get my edit in) this week’s Mystery Question is about some of the dumb laws of our land –More Dumb Laws. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on some state’s books, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some of the laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. Coins are not allowed to be placed in one’s nose.
  2. Driving is not to be done while asleep. Tennessee
  3. The U.S. government says it’s a crime to give false weather reports. District of Columbia
  4. The dog catcher must notify dogs of impounding by posting, for three consecutive days, a notice on a tree in the city park and along a public road running through said park. Denver, Colorado

And the answer is…well, I guess you can already see it’s #1. lol Congrats to all who guessed correctly!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: Although I’m not under a tight deadline right now, I’m enjoying these dumb laws. Even if it is difficult to come up with a dumb law that’s not already on the books! So once again this week’s Mystery Question is about some of the dumb laws of our land.  Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on some state’s books, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some of the laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. In one state it is illegal to set a mouse trap without a hunting license.
  2. Another state has a law against wearing a fake mustache that causes laughter in church.
  3. It’s against the law to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.
  4. Wearing mismatched socks on a Sunday is punishable by a fine.

Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave you answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

Before I go, I’d like to share a video of three crazy authors having fun on a webcast! It’s Lynette Eason, Nancy Mehl, and me. I’m not sure the interviewer, Chris Jager will ever be the same…

I love your granddaughter’s photo, so pretty! I guess number 3 because there aren’t too many giraffes in the States. Off to watch the video!

These are so bizarre, I don’t see how legislators can keep a straight face while passing them. They all sound like fiction, but I’ll go with #4 today. Like who enforces and what is the penalty for these?

Pat, your granddaughter has a great eye for composition. There is such a feeling of calm that is reinforced by the verse you chose. I hope you get to see your daughter and grandchildren soon.

Now where would you find a giraffe to tie to a pole? However, I think even more ludicrous is a law against setting a mouse trap without a hunting license. I’m going with #4 as the one you made up. There is no way that could be enforced . I wonder if there is an office of mouse trap licenses in that state? Would there be a limit on number of traps, or mice caught per day? Hmm. Enough! I’m off to watch three of my favorite Christian suspense writers have fun.

Hi Tim! Yes she does have a good eye for composition. 🙂 It’ll probably be November before I can get away, but I’m lookin forward to it. I’ll check and see if there’s an office of mouse trap licenses…we’ll see next week if it’s #4. And I hope you enjoy the video.

Pat, I just watched you, Nancy and Lynette talk about your writing. Thanks for the insight you gave us on writing. You ladies were having way too much fun in that interview. Good for you!

My comments were a bit of a ramble because these are all so ridiculous. I do believe Pat made up #4, but I just felt compelled to comment on 1 and 3. Seems you have your share of critters to capture at your place. When we lived in Rochester, MN, and had just moved into a new house, our cat proved to be a pretty good mouser. He would bring up his “friends” from the basement so we could enjoy watching him play with them. He did solve our mouse problem pretty quickly.

Tux is my voler, Tim. He catches voles and brings them to me…lol And with all the cats behind me, I don’t have any–he has to go across the street to find them.

I think there needs to be a law against posting hilarious comments without a proper warning. You know, some sort of computer endangerment…
I’m going to guess #1; if true, then I’m the only person in my family who can’t set mouse traps. Yay me!!

The photo and Scripture couldn’t have been more perfect for this morning. It was like a balm to my soul.

These dumb laws were unbelievable. What in the world were they thinking? Lol I think I’ll go with #3

First, I laughed right along with the authors on the webcast. You can’t beat “40 % off and free shipping”! lol. None of the laws seem feasible, but I had a hard time deciding between #1 and #4. It’s hard to picture someone checking out the churchgoers’ socks, so I’m picking #4.

Beautiful photo and verse, Patricia. Your granddaughter is very talented!

I’ll have to go with #3 just because I can’t imagine who would come up with a law about giraffes in the U.S. (But then, who would come up with any of these?)

Finally able to get the video to play. It was well-worth watching! So much fun. I’ve already read the three books, so it was double fun! Lol

I choose #1, because I can’t imagine anyone going to jail for setting a mouse trap in their house without a hunting license, especially since no one hunts mice…unless they plan on arresting cats, & I’d pay to see a cop put a couple of tiny cuffs on a squirming, yowling tabby!

Your granddaughter’s photo is absolutely awesome! I believe she must take after her grandmother! Phil. 4:6 is a favorite verse.
It’s hard to choose between 1 and 3 but I’ll guess #1. I’m safe either way. You won’t find me hunting mice or tying up a giraffe! It’s hard to believe any of these are real! Lol!

Love your granddaughter’s picture. And the verse suits so well.

I’m choosing 1. If that is a law in Virginia, I’m in trouble. I have one trap about three feet from where I’m sitting, and two others elsewhere in my basement. I also have large wire traps in my back yard, hoping to catch a fox and several groundhogs. So far, I have only caught four squirrels and a raccoon. Years ago, I asked the animal control officer in our city about the groundhogs. His advice: shoot them but don’t dare tell anyone that I said so. Besides a city ordinance against discharging firearms in the city, my property joins one of the city schools.

So glad you didn’t follow his advice, Edward…you would probably be reading my post from behind bars. 🙂 I think I may have shared this photo before, but yesterday when I was scrolling through my photos this one stopped me.

I realize it’s dumb but who would know within your private walls if you set a mouse trap?
    I’m guessing #1
