More Dumb Laws 11 ~ Mystery Question

More Dumb Laws 11; Ecc. 3:11

More Dumb Laws 11 is this week’s Mystery Question. I’m just having too much fun with these state laws to quit. 🙂

But first the photo and Scripture verse. The photo is from Delores Topliff, taken while she was in St. Augustine, Florida a couple of years ago. I love the peace it exudes. And I love that verse. It gives me such peace.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on some state’s books, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some of the laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. Marrying the same man more than 3 times is illegal in this state. Kentucky
  2. It is illegal for a chicken to cross the road. Georgia
  3. In this state, it is illegal for a man to give his sweetheart a box of candy weighing less than fifty pounds. Idaho
  4. If a resident of this state is caught allowing a monkey to smoke a pipe, they can face a hefty fine.

And the answer is…#4 Congrats on all who guessed correctly!

  1. One thing you can’t sell in this state is man-hole covers.
  2. There is a fine of up to $500, or up to a year spent in jail, or both to pretend to be a member of the clergy in this state.
  3. In this state, there is a five-hour limit on playing Bingo.
  4. It’s illegal for a pawnbroker to accept a wooden leg or wheelchair in a transaction.
Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

I like any pictures made at the beach, always peaceful.
Any of these laws would be crazy enough to be true, however I’m guessing #3.

Delores’s photo is amazing! I think you made up number 3 because I think bingo would bring in revenue (drinks, rent, etc), so the state wouldn’t want to squelch that. Have fun doing the interview on SVP TV!

Would love to walk along that beach in Delores’ photo. The Scripture fits perfectly.

Going with #1…because well, why not????

That should be an interesting interview! Hoping to remember to watch!

Great photo, Delores. That Scripture is surely a comfort.

I believe you made up #1 this week. How else would a city acquire man-hole covers if it was illegal to sell them? I guess they could buy them out-of-state, but really?

I’m shocked about last week’s Idaho law that the gift box of candy had to be over 50 lbs. I mean really–that could lead to weighty results.
For this week, I’ll go w/ #1. Removing and selling could cause serious problems!

2 of my favorite things are watching sunrises and sunsets at the beach! The scripture is perfect for it. And for the laws, ill. Go with #1, but as always they’re all a little ridiculous! Lol

Love the picture and the verse. Both are beautiful.

I’m choosing #3. I can potential for harm in the other three. The first can be taken two ways. I looked at it from the perspective of someone removing them and selling them. That could create hazards. If only there was a way to enact the second one so that it would stop all the ministers who have a license but no relationship with God, thus pretending to represent him. And I can see some sad ramifications with the last one. I see no reason to put a time limit on Bingo. Now Monopoly is another matter. I’ve played that a few times when I thought it never would end.

Beautiful photo Delores! Pat you always do so well choosing a fitting verse!
My first choice was #4 because I don’t think wooden legs are even available now. Then I recalled some of these laws are old. I can’t imagine playing bingo for 5 hrs. I’ll go with #2 – just because.
I’m sure you will do well with your interview Pat

I love Delores’s picture, Erika. And that is one of my favorite verses. I’m so glad you enjoyed the puzzle…it takes me forever to work it myself and I even know what it looks like. lol We’ll see next week if it’s #1.

Hi Patricia! I have no clue on these but I’m going to guess #3, only because that would be a long Bingo game! I love the beach sunset photo, like someone said, any beach sunset photo is beautiful.

Hmmm….tough choice!! I’m just going to go with #1 even though it’s probably a true law 😀 I’ve read some very silly laws in different States…what a riot it is to learn, lol!
