More Crazy Laws #23 ~ Mystery Question

More Crazy Laws #23; Psalm 139:9-10

More Crazy Laws #23 is this week’s Mystery Question. Can you believe we’re into the 2nd full week of December? Where has this year gone!

I came across this verse last week in my daily Bible reading and it wrapped itself around my heart. I found one of my sunrise photos and here we are. I’m nearing the end of another year of reading through the Bible and I’m looking for a Bible Study or a different way to read through the Bible. The past two years I’ve used the Seasons of Reflections Bible–each morning I read a passage in the Old Testament and one in the New Testament and then a Psalm or Proverb. I’d like to do something different in the coming year…like maybe start at Revelation and Malachi and work toward Matthew and Genesis…

Now for this week’s Mystery Question. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on the city books in different states, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. In this state, it is illegal to whisper in someone’s ear while they are moose hunting. (Alaska)
  2. Here it is illegal to buy or sell blue light bulbs.
  3. And it’s now legal here to remove the furniture tags that say, “Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law.” (Colorado)
  4. This state prohibits people from playing Scrabble while waiting for a politician to speak. (Connecticut)

And the correct answer is…#2. Congrats on all who guessed correctly!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on the city books in different states, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. In this town, all citizens must own a rake.
  2. Cats may not run loose without having been fit with a taillight.
  3. It’s illegal to plant a Bradford pear tree here.
  4. Here failure to tell your neighbor his house is on fire is illegal.

Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing (next week) for a $15 gift card!

Hi Patricia, I truly hope that it’s #2. Can’t imagine trying to get a taillight on a cat, or keeping the light working!

I’ll go with #1 the rake. I can totally see the Bradford pear. They are so unstable. I used to park outside our Apartment building. Came out one say after a bad storm. The trees on either side of me crashed into other cars but missed me! They are even invasive in the woods around me.
    Merry Christmas everyone!

I think it’s #2. I,too can see # 3! We bought a house with 4 Bradford pear trees. We have already taken two of them out, and I don’t think it will be to long before the other two go!

What comfort God’s Word and presence is in a sunrise! Good match of Scripture to photo, Pat.

#1 A mandatory rake? Overbearing much?
#2 Obviously, these law makers don’t have cats. (Good thing I had nothing in my mouth when I read this one.
#3 I’m not familiar with this kind of pear tree. Any partridges in it?
#4 We need a law for this? Well, maybe, I guess.
These are all so crazy, but then that’s nothing new. I think partridges need as many pear trees as they can get, so I think you made up #3, Pat.

Tim, Bradford pear trees are very common here. We had six across our front lawn for over 20 years. They grow very fast. I could cut ours back drastically, not even concerning myself with the shape, and they would fill back out and start shooting straight up by the next fall. The only “fruit” were tiny little “pears” about the size of a peanut. The branches grow very thick. I was told that they will split and break very easily in a heavy snow or ice storm, which is one reason I cut them back so much every two or three years. One of the more frustrating traits is that a new tree will shoot up from the root of an existing tree, so they will spread if you don’t keep them controlled.

I love Psalm 139. We are never alone. And aren’t we blessed to have his presence with us? The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases.

#1 I can see this being a law for certain showcase towns.

#2 Good luck attaching a taillight to a cat!! I foresee a lot of claws sunk into wrists! A cat may be purring away while sitting comfortably on your lap. Then its had enough and the next thing you know, claws embedded in the skin!!

#3 I can see this being a law somewhere. Bradford Pears are pretty, but. . .

#4 I hope I never have that kind of neighbor. Please tell me if my house is on fire.

#2 The cat and the taillight wins my vote. Hopefully you made it up.

If you start from the back and move to the front of your Bible reading, Pat, you should hit Matthew around Christmas time! Perfect!

We’ll see if #2 is a real law next week, Barbara. Amd you’re right, I would be doing Matthew around Christmas!! I wish I could find a devotion Bible structured that way. 🙂 But maybe I can print out a reverse schedule from the one I’m doing now…

#2 really made me laugh! The real challenge would be capturing the cat & keeping the light on it. My question would be, if the cat loses its tail light, do police arrest the cat? “Mr. Sprinkles, you are under arrest for felony misuse of a tail light. You’re facing up to two years in cat jail. Your lawyer Fluffy will arrive shortly.” No, #2 must be false. 🙂

    1. Tim Johnson

Joy, I hope Fluffy brings bail money for poor Mr. Sprinkles. Thanks for “lighting” up my afternoon. If Fluffy does a good job springing Mr. Sprinkles, there might be a TV series for her. Paw and Order.

I love the “halo” around the sun. Beautiful shot. The verses are very fitting.

I have to go with the “cat in the hat.” Whoops, I meant taillight. Maybe it would be necessary if they had a lot of feral cats and needed a way for the police to know the pet cats from the feral cats. I guess they were told it was okay to shoot a cat without a taillight because it was probably feral. So, out me in the #2 column. The town requiring all citizens to own a rake probably wasn’t the one where Bradford pear trees were illegal. Those pesky leaves go all over the place.

I didn’t realize Bradfords would spread, figured they would be not wanted because of allergies. And I understand requiring a rake especially if a lot of pines are around. So I’m also going with the cat one, #2. My brothers use to tie a paper wad on my cat’s foot or leg to watch him go around in circles. It didn’t last very long so I wouldn’t think a tail light would either! lol

Another beautiful picture. The verse fits it well. These are so crazy. I’m trying to imagine putting a taillight on my indoor cat. Too funny! I’m going to guess #4.

I’ll guess #2 because I can’t imagine how one would get a tail light on a cat. At least not without some injuries to oneself involved.

Well I’m a little late this week – The photo is beautiful and the verse comforting. I’m so thankful He is with us anywhere and everywhere!
Enjoyed the comments – many of them also made me chuckle. Poor cat but I’ll guess #2
