Photos from Israel

Before I get to the blog, I have a few things to catch up on! First, I won’t be doing the Mystery Question or Reader Friday blog this month, but I will be posting pictures and comments about my trip to Israel. And I’m sorry I didn’t get the winners posted on the Friday after Thanksgiving as I meant to, but here they are:

The winner of Richard Mabry’s book, Emergency Case…Phyllis Scott!

The winner of November’s Tuesday blog drawing is… Donna Stoll!

And the winner of November’s Reader Friday blog (a book from my library) drawing is… Lisa Harness!

I’m also very excited to tell you about all the prizes The Suspense Sisters are giving away! A beautiful quilt and gift cards and books! Be sure to check to enter the contest at our blog, The Suspense Sisters! All you have to do is leave a comment!

And now onto the trip!

My trip to Israel was A-Maz-Ing! But I’m sure you knew it would be. It is hard to comprehend that I have walked where Jesus walked; that I’ve been on the Sea of Galilee, and to Capernaum, Peter’s hometown and Jesus’ base as well as the place the ten lepers were healed. My thanks to my friend, Delores Topliff, for organizing and planning this wonderful trip.

First of all, no matter where we went in Israel, there were lots of steps. And we walked. A Lot. One day 8 miles. I lost seven pounds!

We started out in Jaffa (often Joppa in the Bible), staying at Abraham’s Hostel. Jaffa is a suburb of Tel Aviv and one of the oldest port cities. It’s where Job boarded a ship to Tarshish instead of going to Ninevah. And where Peter stayed with Simon the Tanner when Cornelius sent for him. Historians have pinpointed this building as the place where Peter stayed. On the rooftop is where Peter had his vision…I waited and waited to get a clear shot of the building, but could never quite manage it. 🙂

The above is the skyline of Jaffa and below is me getting my feet wet in the Mediterranean — Isn’t that water beautiful! (and cold)

And below is the whole crew eating and enjoying a view of the Mediterranean Sea. The food was absolutely wonderful. Lots of salads.

This is the main street in Jaffa. Much easier to get around walking than in a car. I think we walked six miles this day. 🙂

From Jaffa, we went to Caesarea where the Romans built aqueducts to carry water. It’s where Peter baptized Cornelius, the first gentile convert to Christianity. And where Paul was held prisoner before he was sent to Rome. In the city of Caesarea, he preached to Festus, procurator of Judea, and to King Agrippa and Bernice.

Next week, Tiberias!

Beautiful pictures! I can’t imagine walking where Jesus walked. When you mentioned the roof top, I thought you were going to say you were waiting and waiting for a vision lol. The skyline looks beautiful!
Did you stand at the port and just imagine Jonah boarding? Or any other stories for that matter? My imagination would of been at its fullest potential.
I’m glad you had a safe trip and can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures !

Patricia, my friend and I leave for Israel on March 1! I can hardly wait. I actually went last year for the first time, and had planned to wait two years and go again, but when my friend said she’d like to go, I just had to say, let’s go! Had to really save my pennies, but it will be worth it. Thanks for the pictures, I recognized Caesarea right away. It was so windy the day we were there, we didn’t get to enjoy it. Hopefully this year it will be calm. It’s so beautiful.

A group from my church just got back from the Holy Land. Wish I could have gone, but my health prevents me from going on any more trips, especially out of the country.

That’s one reason I decided to go when I did, Janet. My knees are bad and I was afraid in a year or so I wouldn’t be able to do all the walking. The most we walked one day was over 8 miles. Most days it was at least 5 miles. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.

What a wonderful trip, Pat! It would be great to go some day. My cousin put our name in the Wailing Wall on a couple of different trips there. Thanks for sharing.

I put a friend’s name in the Western Wall. It was so interesting. There was a men’s side and a women’s side, and let me tell you, if you accidentally wandered over to the men’s side, they quickly set you on the right path. 🙂
