Good Friday to SonRise

Good Friday

From Good Friday to SonRise on Sunday is three days the way days were recognized in Christ’s time. Even part of a day was counted as a whole day. You can read about that here.

Good Friday, one of the most somber days of the year. Each year I read the Gospel accounts of Christ’s crucifixion. At different times during the day, I think about what was happening as I read those accounts of that Thursday night and all day Friday.

If Good Friday were all we had, if it had ended at the 9th hour, then it would be a somber day indeed. But we have Sunday morning and an empty tomb. I’ve been to the tomb in Israel that is believed to be the one where Christ was laid. I don’t know if it’s the one, but if it isn’t it would be similar to the original one. It was an awesome experience.

I love the scripture verses in Luke 24: “He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’”

A note about the crosses. Seven years ago on the night my mother went to be with Jesus, we walked out of the hospice facility and to our cars. In the distance were the three crosses. Seeing them shinning in the dark was like God telling us that she was okay…better than okay.

Good Friday to SonRise gives us Hope!

Wishing you all a Happy Easter!

I’ll be back next week with a review of Elizabeth Goddard’s latest release, Present Danger!

Pat, thank you for reminding us that as heart-wrentching as Good Friday is, there is more to the story. There is Easter. He is risen. He is risen indeed.

Thanks, Sally Jo. Occasionally when I’m at my sister’s and we drive from Chattanooga to Oolteway at night, I see those crosses and remember how much comfort they brought us.
