A Verse and Song is this Friday’s post. I’m in East Tennessee for a friend’s surgery, and I haven’t had time to read anything. But I wanted to post a photo with a verse and a song.
Last Sunday was a beautiful Sunday afternoon with the sky so blue you’d think you were looking at an October sky! And this verse has always given me such comfort that I wanted to share it.
Now for the song for today. Willie Nelson credited the inspiration for the song to his grandmother, Nancy Elizabeth Sommers. He remembered her reading the Bible and singing the hymn “Rock of Ages” after supper. While he wrote it in 1957, he didn’t record it until 1971.

You are my part of the country. I live in Cleveland, TN which is just above Chattanooga. Enjoy our beautiful state. Praying your friend’s surgery goes well.

My sister lives in Ooltewah and my niece lives in Cleveland so I’m very familiar with your part of the country, Jane! The surgery went very well. Thank you!
I like this verse because it comforts me when I pray for my kids and grandkids. Happy Friday, Pat!

Thanks, Sharon.
Pat, I’m praying that your friend’s surgery is successful, and a full recovery comes quickly. That photo looks so peaceful. In the verse you chose, the 1000 generations caught my eye. In biblical number symbology, 10 stands for completeness. A pastor once explained that sometimes God multiplies a number for emphasis. So, one way of looking at 1000, ten cubed, is really, really all generations. It certainly fits God’s promises throughout Scripture.
I just finished reading “The Girl Upstairs” by Jessica Patch. If you recall, I started reading it last Friday! It usually doesn’t take me that long to read a full size novel, but this one was much harder than most I read. To me, it was very much in the vein of Arthur Hitchcock; pretty spooky.
Next up for me is “Protector” by Jennifer Pierce. It is book 3 in the Heroes of Renegade series. The first line is, “Samantha Williams pulled the fire hood over her head, slid her arms into the self-contained breathing apparatus harness, adjusted the shoulder straps, and fastened the belt as Ciaran “Murph” Murphy cut the siren of Engine 4 and eased it to the curb.”

Thanks, Tim. I love your explanation for how God emphasizes his words. Have a great weekend!
“The sea never gives back what it claims . . . “ is the first line of Elizabeth Goddard’s Deadly Currents. I’ve got about 30 pages to read from last week’s book and then I’ll start this one. I’m behind on my reading this week. I’m loving our 55° weather here in East Tennessee. I’ll bet you’re not! lol
That’s a great verse and photo!

Beautiful picture Pat! I hope you are enjoying your time in E. TN and I’m happy your friend’s surgery went well.
Unlike Barbara I don’t care for this 55 degree weather we are having and I’m hoping it doesn’t stay around too long, but it is a beautiful sunny day!
I don’t recall hearing the song you shared but I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Shelia!
Such a calm and peaceful scene in your picture. I have always enjoyed finding opportunities to take such shots. They probably rank second to my enjoyment of visiting and taking pictures of lighthouses. As always, you selected a good verse.
I enjoyed the song. It conveys a great message.

Praying your friend is doing good, recovering, and thank you for sharing the verse and beautiful picture. It does look like a Fall sky for sure, so bright. I had no idea that Willie Nelson wrote Family Bible, what a surprise!
This 55* degree weather has been Blackberry winter, and one more to go called Britches winter, where you still have to “wear your britches before summer officially arrives.”
I’m currently reading What We Hide by Coble and Acker. I especially like the court scenes in it.
