Lisa Harris’s The Escape–What I’m Reading

Patricia Bradley Book Review, What I'm Reading 32 Comments

Lisa Harris’s The Escape is what I’m featuring this week. A couple of Fridays ago, I featured the first line:  “There is a razor-thin edge between justice and revenge, where the two easily blur if left unchecked.” I was trying to finish Deception and didn’t have time to let you know what I liked about it, so here’s the review.

But first the photo and scripture verse. The photo was taken on January 31, 2014. My mother had just gone to be with Jesus. When we walked out of the hospice facility, God blessed us with these crosses that were in the distance. I hadn’t seen them before, and what peace those crosses gave us. It was His way of saying, “She’s home now.” What a celebration my mother was having!

Now for The Escape. Here’s the back cover copy and cover:

US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn are thrust into a high-profile case transporting two prisoners across the country on a private plane. The plane experiences engine trouble en route from the Pacific Northwest to Colorado. The pilots crash-land the aircraft deep in the heart of the sprawling Salmon-Challis National Forest.

When Madison and Jonas regain consciousness, they find both pilots and one prisoner dead–and one fugitive on the run. They’ll have to negotiate the rugged and remote backcountry through Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado while tracking a murderer who is desperate to disappear–and will do anything to stop them.

This high-octane game of cat-and-mouse from bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Harris will have your heart pumping as you try to catch a fugitive with nothing to lose.

My Take:

I really enjoyed this fast-paced, twisty story by Lisa Harris. Madison James is trying to move on with her life after her husband was killed after leaving the hospital where he was a doctor. It’s been five years and his murder has never been solved. But every year someone leaves a black rose at his grave, except this year. This time, the person left it on Madison’s pillow in her bedroom.

But she doesn’t have time to figure it out. She and fellow US Marshal Jonas Quinn are assigned to transport two fugitives from Seattle, Washington to Denver, Colorado. The plane crashes with only Madison and Jonas and one prisoner surviving. Madison and Jonas track the prisoner, but he backtracks and gets the jump on Madison, taking her gun.

This was a fascinating look at how the US Marshals department works. It reminded me a little bit of The Fugitive, except the escaped prisoner was truly a bad guy. And I enjoyed watching Madison come out of her shell as she finds herself falling for Jonas. And what’s not to like about him!

He’s the strong, silent type, but with a gentle heart. Madison is also a strong character and there’s plenty of conflict as she fights her feelings. Great story!

This story is about US Marshals…a subject I didn’t know much about. But Lisa Harris did her research and I learned quite a bit. What’s the last book you read that taught you something? Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a July drawing for a book from my library.

What a wonderful image, a gift you received, when your mother passed. Carrie Dalby’s Perilous Confessions is a Southern Gothic romance that taught me what a chatelaine is. The Escape sounds fabulous, good review!

God often brings us an observation or even a person when we are at our sadist to remind us of the joy we have in Him. And you recognized it at your mother’s passage to heaven, Pat. What a blessing indeed.

“Following the Evidence” by Lynn Shannon taught me more about search and rescue dogs. I love stories like that.

I just finished Lisa’s next book in that series, “The Chase”. It’s every bit as good as “The Escape”, and I’d expect nothing less from Ms Harris.

I can’t wait to read The Chase, Tim! Oh, and I hope you didn’t get flooded. My news showed photos of the water in Phoenix and Scottsdale this morning. I’ll have to get Lynn’s book since I’ll have a K9 dog in my next series…

Last Tuesday night I had to drive through the city (Tucson) to get home from a meeting. Heavy rain and hail the whole time until I got near the Air Force Base. There was no rain from there on to my neighborhood. But last night…more heavy rain in my neighborhood with lots of thunder most of the night. Because of the thunder I had a bed full of cats (3) most of the night. 🙂

I loved both books in Lisa’s series. Cant wait for the finale!
I almost always learn something from my historical reads. I recently read Airborne by DiAnn Mills and learned about procedure in a viral outbreak.
Beautiful picture with a promise in your time of sorrow.

Oooh, that book is going on my to-read list!

Reading “Embattled Hearts” by Pegg Thomas gave me a peek into the pony express life. It’s something I’ve always been fascinated by, now I’m enamored and want to research it more! Pegg Thomas writes great historical fiction.

What a great comfort God gave you had when your mom passed! I just finished Beyond the Tides by Liz Johnson and learned about lobster fishing. It is a great book as is Lisa’s US Marshals series.

How amazing is the love of God that He sends us wonderful reminders right when we need them the most. Wonderful picture and verse combination.

I don’t have a specific title but I have learned a tremendous amount about the Amish from my reading in recent years.

I have read this one by Lisa & have her next one “The Chase” on my TBR pile Her books are always exciting, heart-pounding & riveting!

Last book I read was a Love Inspired Suspense one by Kellie Vanhorn entitled “Buried Evidence” (release date July 27th). Our heroine Laney Hamilton is a forensic anthropologist…she studies bones to identify bodies. I found it quite fascinating & learned a lot about that career. It certainly would be a job that helps in a cold cases!
