Written In Ink — What I’m Reading

Written In Ink; Psalm 103:1

Written in Ink (The Rose Tattoo Trilogy Book 2) by Sara Davison is what I’m reading this week, and what a story it was!

But first the photo and scripture. Psalm 103:1 was in my Bible this week and it reminded me of Matt Redmond’s 10,000 Reasons (Bless My Soul) I hope you’ll take a minute to listen to it. 🙂

Written in Ink

Now onto Written in Ink by Sara Davison:

Cash McCall has loved Dr. Renee Dawson for half his life. Although they’ve talked about a future together, she has never believed it was the right time for them to get engaged. Now she has ended their relationship, and he has no idea why.

Everything Renee worked so hard for is in jeopardy. One agonizing decision has changed everything, and she has been forced to shatter the heart of the man she loves. And her own.

The extremist militant group The Arm is on a mission. Its leader doesn’t care how many innocent lives are lost in the pursuit of the group’s end goal, and Renee has seen something she was not supposed to see.

If Cash can’t get to her in time, Renee could end up in the crosshairs of the terrorists, and he may lose her—and any chance at the life he’d always envisioned—forever.

My take on Written In Ink:

This was a gripping story. Davison did such a good job of laying out Renee’s arguments for ending her pregnancy. Then layer by layer she begins to see the baby as more than a fetus. At the same time, she learns who Jesus is. There was so much truth in this story. Especially about how no one ever tells these young girls (and not so young) the emotional impact abortion has forever.

Renee was a compelling character, and so was Cash. Neither Renee nor Cash are Christians at the beginning of the book and it is so rewarding watching them come to know Him. I loved the secondary characters, especially Renee’s cousin and aunt. And the whole McCall clan was back–Jack and Summer from Lost Down Deep. You can read my review of that book here.

Written in Ink is suspenseful with The Arm out to bomb the abortion clinic and a wonderful love story as well. It’s a great story with an uplifting message.

Here’s the opening line: “Cash hit the mute button on the remote. Was that a knock?”

You can buy Written in Ink here. Or you can read it in KU.

Lovely song, good review! Here’s the first line from the book I’m reading. It’s a nonfiction book, so it’s not necessarily a captivating quote, but here ya go: “When I first met Sean, he told me a familiar story about communication in his workplace.” It’s from an interesting book called A World Without Email by Cal Newport.

What a blessed way to start the day with the magnificent photo and the song! I sat here and worshipped. Bless the Lord, oh my Soul! Thanks, Pat, for sharing.

Pat, when I saw your photo and verse, I was immediately reminded of the song you mentioned! We use it occasionally in our contemporary service.

I chuckled over the name of the character Cash McCall. I wonder if Ms Davison knows there was a movie by that name. It starred James Garner and Natalie Wood. It was a pretty good movie as I recall. Thinking of character names, I’ve noticed a few recently that have been reminders of characters, real or not, in recent books I’ve read. The name Madison James is used by Lisa Harris in her U.S. Marshals series.

“When the woman with the daisy in her hair sauntered into the Pineville Drugstore and Soda Fountain that hazy Saturday morning in May 1954, every man in the room turned and looked.” by Ramona Richards. Yes, I’m finally starting that book today.

I’ve started reading the next book for our ACFW Book Club, The Sowing Season, by Katie Powner and like it. “Cow manure spewed from the burst pipe and rained down on him like retribution.”

Definitely adding this book to my tbr! “The Greece I found that Wednesday afternoon in March 2010 was not the one I remembered from my honeymoon fourteen years earlier.” ~ Undaunted: Daring to do what God calls you to do, by Christine Caine. A non-fiction book. I’m also reading a few other books, but this one was handy 🙂

Like Tim, that song came to my mind immediately upon reading the scripture. My next book is going to be The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery by Amanda Cox.
Sarah nudged aside last night’s puddle of clothes with her bare foot, the exposed designer label sticking out a bit too much.

Thank you for including that song this morning. It’s one if my favorite worship songs, and it definitely blessed my soul this morning! This sounds like a good book. I’ll have to add it to my list! First line of my current book: “I don’t make friends easily.” From The Liar Next Door by Nicola Marsh.

That is such a beautiful song and picture. I’m reading Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason. It’s a really good series. “Today the watching ended and the killing started”.

Beautiful picture, Pat. The verse fits it well.

I hope you didn’t see any errors in Sara Davison’s book. I was one of the proofreaders. The book I started reading last night is also a proofreading job, so I’ll have to refrain from sharing the first line.

How could a man buy a new suit with a dozen eggs?

First line from “Undercurrent of Secrets” by Rachel Scott McDaniel. It’s part of the Doors to the Past series Barbour is putting out.

“Some engagements end in happily-ever-afters, and some just end….on social media.”
