What I’m Reading ~ The Cedar Key by fellow Mississippian Stephania H. McGee is a story of self-discovery that kept me up much later than I meant for it to! I think you’ll love it, too. Here’s the back cover copy of the Cedar Key:

What I'm Reading~The Cedar KeyCould the key to Casey’s future be hidden in someone else’s past?

Casey Adams unexpectedly inherits an old Victorian house full of other people’s memories. Stuck in a quirky little Mississippi town, Casey’s hope for a fresh start died as soon she had to lay the grandmother she’d just met to rest.

But Grandma Ida carried secrets beyond the grave.

Before her death, Ida carefully planned a trail of clues to help Casey unlock the Macintyre family secrets. She would finally discover why they abandoned her. But each of Ida’s letters will only come from Casey’s handsome—and often frustrating—new neighbor. As Casey pieces together the stories behind the objects filling her grandmother’s house, she embarks on a heart-stirring journey that rattles her foundations, ignites her faith, and leads her to a startling discovery that will reshape her future. But only if she can face the lies that have been slowly tearing her apart.

What I’m Reading ~ The Cedar Key~ My Take:

Casey has been hurt by life. Adopted by a couple who gave no thought to what it would take to raise a child, they soon grew tired of the work it took. she overheard her adopted father ask his wife why they couldn’t have just gotten a dog. At least they could have taken it back if it didn’t work out.

Casey looked for rejection from everyone she met, so she became pre-emptive and sabotaged every relationship before it could grow. She was much like a porcupine–come close and you’ll get stuck. But Ryan refused to walk away. Actually, he couldn’t. He promised his friend he would help her granddaughter, even though Casey didn’t want his help. She only accepted his help because that was the only way she could get her grandmother’s letters that would tell her why she’d been rejected by her birth parents.

I loved watching Casey come out of her shell and learn to trust God. This is more than a sweet romance. It shows how God can help us to overcome rejection and learn to trust. This book has a little mystery, humor, and a sweet romance.

You can purchase it here.

Pat, that is a great photo, and I’ve always loved that Bible verse. Thank you for starting my day with it.

This sounds like a very good book. Thanks for sharing your review with us. Too often we set up our own barriers to happiness and contentment. Then God knocks them down for us, often with the help of exactly the right people in our lives.

Tim, it is one of my favorite verses. I think you would enjoy Stephenia’s book, and if you enjoy historicals, she’s written several set in Mississippi around the 1860s. Thanks for stopping by.

I have a copy of The Cedar Key, and it’s next in my TBR pile. Thank you for reviewing it. I’m going to read it and then share it with our adopted daughter who has always been troubled by why her birth mother didn’t keep her. I’m hoping that reading this book might minister in some way to her.

This is on my TBR list and look forward to reading it. Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses and the photo of sunflowers is nice. Love how they turn their faces toward the sun. Always a lovely sight to see a field of them.

A beautiful picture with the verse that has kept me sane through some very bad times.
I usually don’t read just romances unless they have something besides just romance and this one intrigues me, I’ll have to read this one.
Thanks for the verse with it’s lovely picture and the book review.

I almost missed that last sentence. Well, actually, I did miss it the first time. When I got to the comments, I thought: “Wait. There’s usually a question at the end.” I scrolled back to see if I missed it and saw a name I recognize. I’m pretty sure I know that guy, maybe better than anyone else I know. Thank you!

I like the picture. I would like to follow that road to see where it leads. Good verse, too.

The book sounds interesting. I don’t believe I have heard of it before.

Well, Edward, I almost forgot to email you the books to choose from. lol. I’m glad you enjoyed my friend’s photo. He has a farm that overlooks about 4,000 acres (give or take). And some of the most beautiful sunflowers I’ve ever seen. Thanks for stopping by!
