Today What I’m Reading–Last 4 Seymour Siblings focuses on Don Bruns, Amy Hueston, Kaye Schmitz, and me, Patricia Bradley. I will be last and I’ll try to add something most people don’t know about me. 🙂 But first the photo and scripture. I used the photo not long ago that I took while out walking late one afternoon. It’s amazing how quickly the sun goes down now! I think it was about 4 o’clock.
And now onto my agency siblings!
What I’m Reading–Last 4 Seymour Siblings: Don Bruns.
I finally got to meet Don last night when we Zoomed for a get-together. He’s a lot of fun! And he’s friends with John Gilstrap who is someone you go to if you want to know about writing and the publishing business. Back to Don. Here’s what International bestselling author Lee Child and the author of the Jack Reacher books has to say about him:
“Bruns is a crafty old pro, and every ounce of his skill and style is packed into CASTING BONES – charismatic characters, superb locations, and a great hard-edged story. If you love the crime genre, this is not just highly recommended but mandatory.” Learn more about Don at his website.
A heads up: Don’s stories contain strong language and adult content. Here’s the back cover copy to Casting Bones:
Introducing New Orleans homicide detective Quentin Archer in the first of a brand-new mystery series.
When a prominent New Orleans judge is brutally murdered, former Detroit cop Quentin Archer is handed the case. His inquiries will lead him into a world of darkness and mysticism which underpins the carefree atmosphere of the Big Easy. Interrogating crooked police officers, a pickpocket, a bartender with underground contacts and a swamp dweller, Archer uncovers some troubling facts about the late judge’s past. But it’s only when he encounters a beautiful young voodoo practitioner that he starts to make headway in the investigation.
Voodoo queen Solange Cordray volunteers at the dementia centre where her mother lives. When she starts reading the mind of one of her patients, she learns that a secretive organization known as Krewe Charbonerrie may be behind the murder of the judge. And the second murder. And the third . . .
You can purchase Casting Bones at Amazon.
Now onto Amy Hueston.
I met Amy on a cruise that the Seymour Agency put together to bring their clients together with editors and publishers. She is a fascinating person–singer, writer, great agency sibling. 🙂 Here’s a little bit about her…SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actor’s Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) requires actors and singers to already have a performing job before they let you in. Well, anyway, that’s how it worked back when I joined. Luckily, I did. I was hired to sing a commercial for a … wait for it … air conditioning company. Learn more about Amy at her website. And you can hear her sing!
I recently read Amy’s book, Paws for Concern and it made me really want to write that cozy I keep talking about. It was such a fun book with a very good mystery in it. And I love the idea of a dog bakery. Now if we could just get something going for kitties…
Here’s the back cover copy:
Life is good for Samantha Armstrong. She left her cheating boyfriend, settled into her cozy cottage on her Aunt Mary’s Palm Beach estate and is finally opening Canine Confections, her dream dog bakery on the ritzy Worth Avenue. But Samantha’s happy new life goes doggone crazy when Palm Beach resident and pastry shop owner Whitney Goodwin is found dead on Canine Confections’ floor, whisking Samantha into the middle of a murder investigation.
The only bright spot is that she finds herself adopting Whitney’s loveable dog Sweet Pea. As the killer strikes again, it’s obvious that the shopkeepers on Worth Avenue are the target. Samantha’s impatience won’t let sleeping dogs lie. She takes it upon herself to move things along by padding around town with Sweet Pea and sniffing out clues to clear her name and Canine Confections’ reputation-before it is too late … Includes a recipe from Chef Sarah Deters at the test kitchen of Three Dog Bakery, the original bakery for dogs!
You can purchase Paws for Concern here.
And Now Kaye Schmitz.
I met Kaye on a cruise as well, except a year earlier–those cruises are where I get some of my best photos! I really enjoyed our time together. Here’s part of her bio on her website.
Personally Speaking…What Does it Take to Be Published Through Traditional Channels? You Have to Have a Story to Tell…
I’ve always been a storyteller. All my life, in every situation, storylines jumped out at me—and once they were in my head, the stories had to be told. So, I’ve also always been a writer. My early forte was poetry…mostly for myself, but also for those I loved. I did some short stories in school, but once I entered college and then the working world, the writing became term papers, corporate proposals, and then grant requests. Not nearly as much fun as storytelling. You can learn more about her and her books at her website.
The book she’s giving away is On Deadly Grounds. I reviewed it back in May and you can read the review here.
Here’s the back cover copy and cover:
On the eve of an international G7 Summit, event coordinator Mattie Maguire discovers that the venue, a century-old estate close to Asheville, NC, is more than simply a picturesque setting. It is also the center of political conspiracies involving a ruthless Russian spy ring that will stop at nothing to steal the massive fortune they believe to be hidden there. The search intensifies and a rogue Russian agent attacks Mattie’s grandmother, still living on the estate. She hovers in a coma, barely clinging to life.
As Mattie struggles to protect her family and ensure a safe event for the most important leaders in the world, her discovery of a fraudulent heir to the estate puts her own life in danger as well. But when her eighty-five-year-old grandfather is kidnapped and held at gunpoint, her path becomes clear. Despite her fear, she must locate the only person who has the information the Russians seek—the estate’s rightful heir, hidden away for decades after the murder of his father. But will the true owner’s return to his childhood home put his life in danger, too?
I really enjoyed this book!
And last and hopefully not least will be me, Patricia Bradley. 😉
Most of you already know me, but in case you don’t I’m Patricia Bradley. I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, moved to Mississippi when I was twenty-two, and I’ve been here ever since. I started writing when I was thirty-five and the very first thing I wrote was published by Woman’s World. Which is a-maz-ing, but I always attributed the sale to God.
My first book came out in 2014, five days after my mfff#p?h birthday. Obsession will be released on February 2, and with the book I just finished and the two with Harlequin, I have written thirteen books.
Now for the back cover copy and cover:
Natchez Trace Ranger and historian Emma Winters hoped never to see Sam Ryker again after she broke off her engagement to him. When shots are fired at her at a historical landmark just off the Natchez Trace, she’s forced to work alongside Sam. He’s the Natchez Trace law enforcement district ranger in the ensuing investigation. To complicate matters, Emma has acquired a delusional secret admirer who is determined to have her as his own. Sam is merely an obstruction, one which must be removed.
Sam knows that he has failed Emma in the past and he doesn’t intend to let her down again. Especially since her life is on the line. As the threads of the investigation cross and tangle with their own personal history, Sam and Emma have a chance to discover the truth. Not only about the victim but about what went wrong in their relationship.
