Hours to Kill–What I’m Reading

Hours to Kill; Ps 62:5

Hours to Kill by Susan Sleeman: I want to warn you not to start it if you need to go to sleep early! And I’m giving away my copy!

But first, the photo and scripture verse. I took the photo in early May or late April and I thought Psalm 62:5 went well with it.

Now onto Hours to Kill by Susan Sleeman.

Just as Homeland Security Agent Addison Leigh reaches the pinnacle of her cyber investigation into a firearms smuggling ring, she’s attacked and left for dead. Her estrangHours to Killed husband, ICE Agent Mack Jordan, is notified that she’s at the hospital in a coma. He may have let his past military trauma ruin their short marriage. However, she never gave up on their relationship, and he remains her next of kin.

Mack rushes to her bedside, where he promises to hunt down the man who attacked her. Mack failed her once when he bailed on their marriage, and he’s not about to let her down again. But when she wakes up in the hospital, she remembers neither the attack nor ever being married to Mack. And when a second attempt to take her life is made, it’s clear something very sinister is going on, and Mack and Addison are in for the ride of their lives.

My take:

I love this series, and while I’ve read the other two books, each is a stand-alone. You don’t have to read them in order, but you’ll probably want to!

I had never known why Addy and Mack separated and liked the way Ms. Sleeman handled their separation in that it wasn’t a problem that could be solved by just talking it out. And I like the way she made Mack face his problem at the end. Worked out really well.

There are many twists and turns in the story, starting with someone holding her mother and caregiver hostage. Then just as Addie gets a lead on the gun runner responsible and asks Mack for help, someone slips a roofie in her coffee and she has a wreck and a head injury. She can’t remember anything about the case or being married to Mack. She also can’t remember the members of the Red Team that she was once a part of.

I enjoyed watching Addy and Mack fall in love again and was rooting for them to get back together. There are many really likable characters in the book, and I hope this isn’t the last one in the series!

This is a book romantic suspense readers will enjoy.

Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a copy of Hours to Kill! Tell me if you’ve read any of Ms. Sleeman’s other books. The first books I read by Ms. Sleeman were her Garden Gate Mysteries and I always hoped she write more of them, but alas, her romantic suspense books have taken off like gangbusters. 🙂

Oh, my goodness! I just found where I interviewed Susan Sleeman way back in 2012! And she was talking about the Garden Gate Mysteries! Check it out here.

Yes, I have read other Susan Sleeman books. Love them, but as you say, they are not bedtime reading!

I’ve read a couple of her other books, awhile ago. Definitely on my list to get back to! This book sounds like so much fun! I’m working full-time now, so super tired and barely any time to read, because I still have the extra jobs and music practice to do. So that is why I rarely comment at the moment 🙁 But I still read all your posts! 🙂

Pat, Susan Sleeman is one of my absolute favorite authors! I have read every one of her Christian suspense books starting with the Morgan Brothers series. Every one has been a blockbuster. I wish there would be more in the Homeland Heroes series, but she might have moved on with her Nighthawk Security series; another winner. I also like the way she ties characters from prior series into her current series. The continuity is a nice touch, and it makes the characters seem more real as they appear to exist beyond their original books.

I loved “Hours to Kill” for all the reasons you gave. And I agree, you want to make sure you have the time to read, because you won’t want to put it down!

Tim, I like the way she ties characters from different series together, too. I don’t know how she writes so fast, either. She’s a fantastic person as well and has been going through a lot since she broke both her shoulder and leg. She is amazing. So glad you stopped by this morning!

Oh wow, I am so behind in reading this great author’s books!! I read in 2014 Special Ops Christmas in a continuity series and then The Justice Agency Series in 2019. I would love to catch up on her books and read Hours to Kill. Thanks for this post and giveaway, Pat.

I have read Seconds to Live, and that had been me turning pages and carrying the book with me whenever I left home. Hours to Kill sounds just as exciting. My mom has a few of Susan Sleeman’s books which I will read sooner or later.

The blurb sounds good. I like the loss of memory part. Always adds more drama to a story. Thanks for the chance.

I have read the first two of this series plus many of her Love Inspired Suspense books. I LOVE her writing!! Hours to Kill is definitely one I want to read but haven’t had opportunity to.

She also has quite a few non-traditionally published series books out that I want to catch up on (Truth Seekers, Agents Under Fire, Cold Harbor, and her newest Nighthawk Security).

Trixi, I’ve read some of the Nighthawk books and they are good! I truly believe LIS is a great training ground for Christian romantic suspense writers. 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hey Pat, I started reading Susan Sleeman’s books in the last few years. I have been on her influencer team for the last two or three series. She does a great job keeping you reading when you know it’s time to stop and get some sleep. I have this book, so I’m not commenting to win your copy. 🙂

I like your picture and Scripture verse.

Hi Edward! Congrats on being on her influencer list. 🙂 I have another of her books on my Kindle, but I think I’ll get a good night’s sleep before I start it. So glad you liked the picture and verse! Thanks for always stopping by and commenting.
