Roxanne Rustand; 1 John 1:7

Wolf Creek Danger by Roxanne Rustand is this week’s Reader Friday. Actually, I’m reviewing two of Roxanne’s books, one this week which is the second book in the Wyoming Danger Series, and Collateral Danger, the third book in the series, next week.

But first the photo and Scripture verse. The photo is from Debra Smith who sometimes comments on the blog. She has a great eye for composition! Background information: this was taken on an outing with her daughter and now she has a lovely memory of it. And I liked the verse with it.

Now on to Roxanne Rustand’s book, Wolf Creek Danger

The second book in the series picks up the second sister, Leigh McAlister, and follows Cold Case Danger. You can see my review here.  Here’s the cover and back cover copy:

Wolf Creek DangerLeigh McCallister has come home to the Rockies to set up her new veterinary practice, but now someone from her past is threatening her and that danger is growing. Will returning be the worst—and most final—decision of her life?

Her family’s ranch, in the shadows of the Wyoming Rockies, is a part of Leigh McCallister’s blood, but not everyone in Wolf Creek welcomes her with open arms. Her mother made a lot of enemies over the years with her shrewd and manipulative business dealings. Some of the locals are already blackballing Leigh’s fledgling clinic. And now that Cole Daniels is back in town, the rumors are starting to fly.

Single dad Cole has come back to Wolf Creek with one goal–he wants to clear the name of his wrongly-convicted father. Guilty, until proven innocent. That was the McAllister family motto, wasn’t it? Cole will never forget it—no matter how interested he’d once been in pretty, kind Leigh McAllister. Thanks to her father’s lies, Cole’s dad had been sent to prison and then died there. And Leigh had testified against him, too.

Leigh and Cole might have gone steady in high school, but there’s no love lost between them now.
But someone is growing edgy, now that they are both back in town, and the threats are growing.
Can they set aside the past and work together before someone dies?
Another suspense-filled inspirational romance by USA Today Bestselling author, Roxanne Rustand.

My take:

I love this series and have finished all four, the last book this week– The Final Christmas PuppyI probably should’ve reviewed the fourth book since it’s a Christmas story! Just take my word for it–it’s a great story and fits right in with Christmas!

Now onto Wolf Creek Danger. My goodness, Janna (book 1), Leigh (book 2), and Tessa (book 3) certainly had a mother who made a lot of enemies. But Leigh didn’t believe the townspeople would hold what her mother did against her when she made the decision to return to Wolf Creek to practice veterinary medicine.

But someone doesn’t want her back. They start an all-out campaign to end her practice before she even gets started. And her very first call is to the ranch owned by Cole Daniels, a man who hates her because she testified against his father in a murder trial. The father was convicted and died two years later in prison.

The two are thrown together since Cole bought four abused horses who are in bad shape and Leigh is the only vet around. They grow closer when someone tries to burn Leigh out, but Cole just can’t get past her testifying against his father.

This is a great second chance book–a second chance at love, a second chance to reconnect with her sisters and her mother, and a second chance to clear Cole’s dad. I really enjoyed this romantic suspense.

What a beautiful photo, Debra! Thanks for sharing it with us. Pat, I love the verse you matched it with.

The Wyoming Danger series is one I will definitely read. I don’t believe I’ve read anything from this author, so I’m looking forward to that experience as well.

There was a time when I would prefer to real all the books in a series right away. But, I already have enough authors (and then some) to keep me busy, so I only do that with a new author I’ve found, and the books are available.

“Teagan froze, her mind locked with choices, her heart racing.” is the first line from Susan Sleeman’s “Made of Steele”, the 4th book in the Steele Guardians series. I just started it today. I’ve loved all of Susan’s past books.

I just finished Steven James’ “The Bishop”, part of the Patrick Bowers series. Steven writes some pretty heavy stuff, but his writing is so good I just keep reading.

Tim, I’ve read just about all of Steven’s books. I was on a panel with him once as well as in his classes at a writer’s conference. He is the real deal! And yes, what he writes is gritty, but then life is, too. Oh, and I have his first 4 books in hardback!

Actually, I’d love a dip in that pond right now. It looks so refreshing!

I usually don’t wait on the whole series to be written before reading. What I often do is read the first book. When the next one comes out, I reread the first, second and or third book again.

I’m trying to start reading, The Christmas Gift, by Kathi Macias. The first line of the prologue reads as follows. “The darkness that enveloped her was more than simply the natural darkness that came from being blindfolded or even the realization that at any moment she could be killed and catapulted into an eternity she wasn’t certain she was ready to face.”

Oooh! Barbara, I have to read that one! Good to ‘see’ you here! And I’m going to go ahead and answer your other comment–I think you’ll really enjoy Roxanne Rustand’s books!

P.s. Oh, and I really enjoyed your review of Wolf Creek Danger. You got me hooked already and I wrote it and the series down in the “to be bought” pile. A bit of brain fog here today! Lol

Just jumping in real quick to say HI. My wife is in the hospital with pneumonia, so I’m leaving shortly to spend the afternoon and evening with her.

I like the picture and verse. I’ll come back to this later to read the synopsis and your take on the book. Regarding series, I typically read them as soon as I can get them.

The warm weather we’re having here in Alabama right now that picture is perfect. Our weather is in the 70s and 80s.
If it’s a series I really want to read I don’t wait for the next one. But I do have to re-read my review to refresh my memory before reading the next one.

Good review, Patricia! I do not need all the books to be out before I start a series. There are plenty of other good books out there to fill the gap between releases in a series.

This series sounds good. I usually read books as I get them and don’t wait for all, but my daughter likes to wait for all. I am reading Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower:
I sat behind my desk at Piper and Porter Detective Agency and nodded while speaking soothingly into the phone.

Really beautiful photo. I like it when all books in a series can be standalone. I also don’t like cliffhangers especially when a series ends without any conclusion.

What a pretty picture. It looks like a very peaceful place. The book sounds really good. I don’t usually wait for all the books to come out. I go ahead and read it as it’s available to me. I’m not reading anything right now. I have too many to choose from that sound good. What a problem to have! Congratulations to Tim. Edward, I hope your wife gets well soon. Praying for strength and healing.

Erika, I’ll tell Deb about your comment. 🙂 I know what you mean about having too many good ones to choose from. I have so many on my Kindle that I’ll never get to all of them! lol

Normally when I know a book is part of a series, I’ll wait until all the books are out. I read way too many books to remember what the details are if I don’t read them all in a row. Unless the books are truly “stand alone” where you can read each one out of order without knowing anything about the other books, if that makes sense.

I’m into Christmas books now, mostly novellas because they are quick & easy reads for the busy holiday season. I’ve started Melody Carlson’s “A Quilt for Christmas”, she’s my go-to author each year for Christmas stories. Her heartwarming stories are just what I need to get into the spirit!
    Here’s the first lines:
“Vera Swanson used to love Christmas. Back in her roomy Craftsman house in Western Oregon, she’d decorate to the nines, then welcome the season as family, friends, and neighbors popped in to admire the holiday décor and partake in homemade goodies. For more than forty years, Vera had played host to homemade storybook Christmases. Oh, they weren’t perfect, but what in life was?”
