What I’m Reading ~ Reader Friday ~

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 33 Comments

ACK!!! It’s Friday and I haven’t had a chance to read this week!!! So I think I’ll tell you what I hope to be reading in the near future.

Denise Hunter’s Love, Unscripted

Denise Hunter Love UnscriptedThe perfect boyfriend only exists on paper…doesn’t he?

Fresh off the heels of a bad breakup, Chloe Anderson poured her heart into penning the perfect boyfriend—and the result was an off-the-charts debut beach read that resonated with women worldwide. Now, Chloe’s scripted hero is headed for Hollywood, with her book destined to become a major motion picture.

When Chloe gets wind that silver screen bad boy Liam Hamilton has been cast as the ideal-in-every-way hero of her novel, she’s horrified by the film director’s choice. How could a player like Liam possibly do Chloe’s perfect hero justice? Unafraid to speak her mind, Chloe lets her executive producer know she’s one hundred percent opposed to the casting. And oops—the call is on speakerphone, where the annoyingly attractive Hollywood star hears Chloe’s unbridled outrage firsthand.

With Liam’s reputation already on the rocks, his agent concocts a PR plan to upgrade Liam’s image while putting the story—and the film—in the spotlight. The catch? During the movie’s filming in Chloe’s cute hometown of Stillwater, North Carolina, Chloe and Liam will fake a wholesome, committed relationship. Both stand to gain something from the arrangement. Liam’s fans will see him in a new light, while Chloe can boost her struggling social media following and further her writing career. What could possibly go wrong?

As author and actor navigate the waters of the PR relationship, they’re unprepared when their professional agreement turns into an actual friendship. And when serious sparks start to fly—well, that’s an unread chapter for both of them.

Cindy K. Sproles’ Cold Black Lies

Believing the bitter lies you tell yourself leaves little room for the sweetness of truth
Coal miner Joshua Morgan managed to do the impossible–he broke away from the stranglehold of the iron-fisted Barton family and the Company Store, to whom all the miners in the Appalachian Mountains are indebted. But it cost him the life of his young daughter, who was run down by a posse led by Thomas Barton while coming to collect Joshua’s payment to the store.
Five years later, a sweet but slow-witted young girl lands on his doorstep, and Joshua’s desire to protect her from the clutches of the Bartons increases his thirst for vengeance. Joshua sets out to discover where the girl came from in order to take down the Barton family once and for all.
His journey leads him to the truth about the day his daughter died, a reality he finds hard to accept. But when confronted by Thomas Barton himself, Joshua is forced to rethink the dark lies brewing in his heart. If he broke away, could Thomas have also? Despite his misgivings, can Joshua join forces with a man he once despised to free the miners from the tyrannical Barton family and forge a future of peace for both the young girl and himself?

I’m currently reading The Metropolitan Affair by Jocelyn Green. It’s pretty good, I’m enjoying reading about the Egyptology craze in the 1920s.

Both books sound good, but especially Coal Black Lies (and I loved Sproles’ last book).

I am reading Paint the Storm, a Christian suspense by Dawn V. Cahill. It’s hard to put down! Cahill bravely deals with hot-topic social issues in this book. The MC is an artist, and the first line is: Meg swept ruby red acrylic across the canvas, forming a span over gray-blue water.

Reading the Wonderful book Between The Sound and The Sea by Amanda Cox. “Joey Harris stood from her desk chair and stared out the window of her second-story office.”
I won Coal Black Lies and sneaked a few pages. Intriguing.

Both of those books sound really good. I’m rereading He Should Have Told the Bees by Amanda Cox for book club. When I finish it I will start The Comfort of Ghosts by Jacqueline Winspear.
Please disregard the other comment. I started typing then was told to log in. I didn’t know it was going to post before I was finished with my comment.

I think they’ll be really good, Pam! I have to finish one for my bookclub first, then I’ll get started and give you a report! And I’e been wanting to read He Should Have Told the Bees for a while now!

It’s butterfly day!!! Looks like they’re all over your lantana. I know they sure like mine. You chose one of my favorite verses, too.

The book I started yesterday is Nancy Mehl’s “Cold Vengeance” which Pat reviewed not long ago. The one I just finished is “Roscoe” by Laura Scott and is part of the Oath of Honor series. It’s centered around the city of Milwaukee. The first line is “Libby Hall gripped the steering wheel tightly, groing concerned that the black truck two car lengths behind her was following her.”

Tim, the butterflies and honey bees have been all over my lantana and the crepe myrtle I posted last week. I really enjoy Laura Scott’s books…hopefully I’ll get to this one soon! And you’ll enjoy Cold Vengeance!

Finished The Garden Girls – quite a ride! Wow!
Started Witness Escape by Sami Abrams:

“The warm day working with Valley Spring Fire Department Captain Phillip Scott on the recent arson case had sapped Detective Doug Olsen’s energy.”

I could not put The Garden Girls down once I started it, Natalya! And I think I downloaded Witness Escape! If not, I’m going to Wally-World later today and maybe purchase the paper back!

Your lantana and butterflies are amazing! Definitely a wow photo.

Both books that you hope to read, sound good, Pat. Like you, I haven’t had time to read either.

I tried to start Kelly Irvine’s, Matters of the Heart last week, but didn’t get to start reading until last night. So far, real good! “Not even a blustery March wind propelling a heavy mist across the Knowles Country, Virginia, fairgrounds to the auction platform could stop Declan Miller.

I am reading an ARC in the Love Inspired Suspense’s Mountain Country K-9 Unit series called Crime Scene Secrets by Maggie K. Black. This is a continuity series in which each book has its own mystery that gets solved while finding clues to the original, unsolved crime. This is the 4th book in the series.

This comes from Cold Case Tracker by Maggie K. Black: There was a man standing on the sidewalk across from the Clearwater Bookstore, staring at Amy Scout through the storefront window.

    Love the butterflies Pat!
I’m reading Hidden Chance by Shawna Coleing. “The deer froze. Only its ears twitched in response to a new sound in the forest.”

    Pretty picture and great verse!

I think I’m going to have to start getting up early so I can respond before midnight. I’m struggling to keep up with anything these days. I just started proofreading a book by Robin Patchen a few days ago. It will be released late this month. The title is Sheltering You. It’s the next book in her Wright Heroes series and is about Derrick, the youngest Wright brother.
