The Spark of Love–Reader Friday

Reader Friday, Ecc.3:11

The Spark of Love by Amanda Cabot is this week’s Reader Friday book. Once again we are in Mesquite Springs, Texas. Here’s the first line: “She had to leave.”

But first the photo and Scripture verse. The photo is from Delores Topliff, taken while she was in St. Augustine, Florida this month. I love the peace it exudes. And the verse is the one our MidSouth Christian Writers Conference chose for this year’s conference. I think it was a wonderful time of learning and fellowship!

Now more about The Spark of Love: Here’s the blurb and back copy:

The Spark of Love; Ecc. 3:11When a spurned suitor threatens her, heiress Alexandra Tarkington flees New York for Mesquite Springs in the Texas Hill Country, where her father is building a hotel. But the happy reunion she envisions is not to be as her father insists she return to New York. Instead, Alexandra carves out a niche for herself in town, teaching schoolchildren to paint and enjoying the company of Gabe Seymour, a delightful man she met on the stagecoach.

But all is not as it seems. Two men, each with his own agenda, have followed her to Mesquite Springs. And Gabe is an investigator, searching for proof that her father is a swindler. When a series of apparent accidents threaten her life, Alexandra and Gabe will have to work together to discover the truth. And perhaps along the way they will discover that the sparks of attraction they’ve felt from the beginning are more than sparks–they’re love.

Bestselling author Amanda Cabot invites you back to 1850s Texas for this exciting and heartwarming tale of treachery, love, and learning to trust.

My take:

The only thing I didn’t like about this book is…it’s the last book in the series! I don’t want to leave Mesquite Springs! The town is as much a character as the people in the series. But I love the people, too and was glad to see Laura’s story finally told.

Alexandra Tarkingotn is a great character–strong-willed with a good doese of common sense, and Gabe Seymour is a swoon-worthy hero. I wanted them to get together from the start. But could they when Gabe believes Alexandra’s father is a con man? And when Gabe is not who he pretends to be, an investigator out to expose her father.

Cabot weaves all the twists and turns together, keeping the reader turning the page until a satisfying end. It’s a story I’m sure readers will enjoy.

It is, Priscilla! And Amanda Cabot ties up all the loose ends very nicely…I’m looking forward to the next series even though I’m reluctantly leaving Mesquite Springs behind.

Great photo, Delores. Good matching verse for it, Pat.

“Spark of Love” sounds interesting. I haven’t read anything from this author yet.

“Retired Navy SEAL Kaleb Tyson knelt in the shadows with his black lab, Sierra.” is the first line of “Sealed with Honor”. This is the second of Laura Scott’s “Called to Protect” series. And yes, I’m hooked on the series, and Laura’s books in general.

I’m going to have to read Laura’s books, Tim. Especially those with a K-9 officer and dog in them since my next book will feature Mark Lassiter and his dog, Gem…that is if Mark can get along with the new sheriff, Alexis Stone…

The Spark of Love was so good. I also hated to see this series end. Love the photo and scripture.

Thank you Delores for the absolute beautiful photo and the selected verse is perfection (I’ve reread it multiple times this morning).

The Spark of Love is now on my ‘to read’ list. Seeing that it’s part of a series, do you recommend I start at the beginning of the series or is it a stand alone novel? I love the Texas Hill country for it’s rough limestone land, it’s bluebells, it’s abundance of wildflowers and of course it’s fine, friendly people (and for so much more). Former President Johnson was quoted to have said, “The sky is always bluer in this Texas Hill country”. I think he was on to something. I’m looking forward to reading The Spark of Love.

Debra, it’s a stand-alone, and you can read it without reading the other books, but if you’ve read the other books, you get to catch up on the lives of different characters. 🙂 I think you’d really enjoy it!

Whoa! Absolutely beautiful photo, Dolores. Thanks for sharing it, Pat. Yes, everything beautiful in HIS time. Perfect Scriptures for the photo and all of life. What a blessing to have the photo and Scripture to wow me in the face as soon as I opened the blog! Great way to start the day!

Like you, I hate it when a good series ends. Thanks for the good review. Another book to be added to the TBR pile.

I’m about to start Trust Me, by Kelly Irvin
“The cloying stench of pot told the same old story.” Perhaps I should have added the second line….

Oh, my goodness, Barbara, you will love Kelly Irvin’s Trust Me! And I’m glad you liked the photo and Scripture verse. I also think you’ll enjoy The Spark of Love!. Amanda Cabot is such a master at weaving all the plot threads together.

This sounds like a good book and series. I have not read the author yet. I am reading The Catch by Lisa Harris. The first line is: “He’d lied to her again.”

Beautiful picture! Thank you, Delores, for sharing it. The book sounds really good. I have never read any of Amanda Cabot’s books. I’m reading Life Flight by Lynette Eason. “Today was not going to be the day they died-not if she had anything to say about it.”

I hit enter too soon. The book is really good so far. It has kept me up late reading to see what happens.

Gorgeous picture! The first is most applicable.

I am reading Lisa Harris’s newest book in the U.S. Marshals series, The Catch. Since you can read the first line on Amazon, it should be fine to share it here although the book doesn’t release until April 5. “He’d lied to her again.”
