The Case of the Stolen Memories ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 28 Comments

The Case of the Stolen Memories by Deborah Sprinkle is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: A voice inside whispered for her to turn around and go back home.

But first the photo and verse. Both are from Delores Topliff. The photo is of the moon over the Irish Sea…I know that was a sight to behold. And the verse is one of her (and mine) favorites and one that memorized a few years ago.

Now for The Case of the Stolen Memories by Deborah Sprinkle. Here’s the cover and back copy:

When a new year begins, Private Investigator Mackenzie Love resolves to get in better shape. But after only one week of walking, she interrupts a burglary in progress and ends up in the middle of a murder case.

Detective Jake Sanders, the man Mac’s dating, is assigned to the murder. Mac, along with her partners, Samantha Majors and Ms. Prudence Freebody, is hired to find the memorabilia stolen from the time capsule in Rennick Park.

The two cases intertwine, and Mac finds herself once more on the wrong end of a gun.

Can Mac and Jake find the killer and the stolen property before the killer finds them?

My take:

I’ve loved every one of Deborah Sprinkle’s Mac and Sam books, and this one was no exception. It’s a Christian mystery and suspense with a dash of romance. Mac and Sam, aka Mackenzie Love and Samantha Majors have a private detective agency that is struggling to pay the bills. Too often they take cases for free…but that’s just they way to roll.

When Mac witnesses the theft of a time capsule in their small town, the PI agency is drawing into the case when someone hires them to recover the stolen artifacts in the capsule. Finally a paying case! But will it pay enough if Mac once again has her life threatened?

Great story, wonderful characters in Mac and Sam and Mrs. P. And of course Detective Jake Sanders can’t help falling in love with Mac, but will he be too late in proposing? Or will someone else beat him to the knee-bending? This is book three in the series and you don’t have to read the others, but I would if you like small-town mysteries laced with suspense!

You can read The Case of the Stolen Memories in KU, or purchase it here.

The Mac and Sam series sounds great; I’m going to check them out!
“The bombed out building stood like a ghost among many like it. A shiver sped up Ayla Galante”s spine despite the warmth of her coat.” This is how Mary Alford begins her newest installment of the Hope Island Securities series. I have the privilege of reading an ARC and it’s excellent!
    Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

The Case of the Stolen Memories sounds so fun. I’m reading Virginia by Shannon McNear. It’s a historical Christian fiction book. It starts in 1602 in a settler’s colony, probably in Virginia. The first line: Mama was still the most beautiful woman in the community.

Great photo, Delores. And a great verse to go with it!

I think I read one of the Mac and Sam books and enjoyed it. This one sounds interesting, too.

“Time’s up. Hostile vehicles spotted. Approaching in less than five minutes.” This is the flashback beginning of “Guarding Truth” by Kelly Underwood, and is the latest in Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians: Savannah series. The flashback takes place in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan and provides the background context for the relationship between Caleb Styles and Juliette Montgomery when they are unexpectedly reunited in present day Savannah.

This is an amazing book. It’s fast paced, and highly emotional though Caleb is the epitome of a logical computer geek and white hat hacker. Juliette is the opposite, and is the one who jumps in feet first and thinks about it later. Now they are in a desperate spot as they have to keep his twelve year old nice safe from the cyber-criminal group who wants to use her expertise. Guaranteed: you. won’t. put. it. down.

Great photo and verse, Delores! Thanks for sharing them, Pat.

I really enjoy Deborah’s books too. This one sounds like another good one. Great review, Pat.

I’m still rereading Jerusha Agen’s Guardians Unleased Series. In Midnight Clear the first line reads, “The Christmas Carol blaring from the TV choked as darkness swallowed the house. This is a fabulous series!

Beautiful picture and verse. They are both peaceful and calming.

I am not familiar with Deborah Sprinkle’s books but this sounds interesting. If I ever find free time, I need to look for her books and read one.

I am proofreading a book for MBI which doesn’t release until early next year, so I can’t share. I’m also reading Deadly Revenge. You already know the first line. If you want me to share it, just let me know in your reply.

Aww, thank you, Edward! Here’s the first couple of lines: “Chattanooga Detective Jenna Hart backed her ten-year-old unmarked Chevy into the church parking lot beside an even older Ford. If things went south, she could make a quick getaway.”
And for Deborah’s books–I think you’d enjoy them. They are a good puzzle…

Sounds like another good series! I’m currently reading Suzanne Woods Fisher’s third in the Cape Cod Creamery series, Love On A Whim. The first line goes, Fingers hovering over the phone, Brynn Haywood hesitated before texting her best friend.
These have been a fun series to read!
Patricia, I’m sure looking forward to the release of your Deadly Revenge, can’t wait!
