Texas Buried Secrets — Reader Friday

Texas Buried Secrets; Psalm 27:13-14

Texas Buried Secrets by Virginia Vaughan is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: Flashing blue lights alerted Cecile Richardson that she was in the right place.

But first the verse and photo. I took this photo from my backyard on a half-cloudy day as the sun set. I think there must have been dust in the air to give such pretty colors. This verse and others like it remind me to wait on the Lord and to be strong. That doesn’t mean I do nothing while waiting, but it does mean I don’t run ahead of God as he works out the details.
Now for Texas Buried Secrets by Virginia Vaughan.

Here’s the cover and back copy:

Texas Buried Secrets by Virginia VaughnAn uncovered grave reveals a deadly secret…
Publicly vowing to bring a serial killer to justice, Deputy Cecile Richardson solidifies herself as the criminal’s next target. And when a newly discovered victim is identified, it becomes even more personal for Cecile. She will solve this cold case. Can Sheriff Josh Avery keep her safe long enough to identify and catch the culprit—or will the killer successfully hunt down his prey?

My Take:

Texas Buried Secrets is the conclusion to the series and what a way to end it! Cecile Richardson and Josh Avery have been on the periphery of the other stories, and I wanted to see them get their own. Boy did they. This was a fast-paced suspense with a serial killer after Cecile. (If you pay close attention, you may figure out who it is)

Josh thinks half the county where he’s sheriff believes he had something to do with his wife’s murder. That’s a heavy load to carry and makes it hard for him to commit to anyone. And he’s in love with Cecile. And she’s in love with him as well. It was interesting to watch them work this out.

Texas Buried Secrets is a good mystery and the suspense is high with the two following the clues to catch the killer. The book kept me turning the pages until The End! While this is the sixth book in the series, and I haven’t read all six, I had no trouble following the characters. I do plan to go back and read the other books!

Breathtaking photo! So often I want to rush ahead of God. That verse is a good reminder not to. It’s better to wait for the best God will give us than to charge in for what we think is best.

I will definitely put “Texas Buried Secrets” on my TBR. Has anyone else noticed there seem to be a lot of books recently with Texas in the title. And they all are good, too.

“Nights like this made Paige Bristow shudder.” is the first page of “Defending From Danger” by Jodie Bailey. It’s part of the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. Hey, if it’s got K-9s in it, it has to be good.

Now here is an interesting coincidence. I finished the book I mentioned above, “Defending from Danger” a few minutes ago. At the end of the book was the first chapter of “Texas Buried Secrets”. I’m getting the strong feeling I really need to read this book!!!! 🙂

Beautiful photo. A great reminder that there is beauty to be seen even through haze and because of the haze and dirt (count it all joy James says). I think I’ll meditate on this today. Thanks. This sounds like a good series. Oh my I can hardly keep up there are so many good books now. Thanks for an opportunity to win a book. Blessings.

Beautiful photo and it’s so good you can get one without telephone lines in it!
I think God probably knew waiting would be hard for his children, since he encourages us to do it often.
Another good review, Pat! And another good book to add to the TBI pile. 🙂

Beautiful sunset and scripture. We have had some lovely sunsets and my husband mentioned dust in the air. I just finished An Amish Marriage of Convenience by Rachel J. Good.
Strong winds rattled the sides of the buggy as Stephen Lapp pulled into the Green Valley Farmer’s Market.

Gorgeous photo! Beauty like that reminds me to rest in God.

    I thought I had Virginia’s book but don’t.

My first line today is from the excellent book by Elizabeth Musser:

I love your Friday reviews! Even though I’m an avid reader, I feel like I finish one book on my TBR pile only to have two more take its place! I’m not familiar with Virginia Vaughn, and look forward to reading some of her books. Thanks for the recommendation!

Beautiful picture. (Did you happen to see the Super Moon last night?) I love this verse. It also reminds me of Isaiah 40:31.

I am reading Crossfire by Lynette Eason. I believe you as well as someone else may have already shared the first line. I don’t have it close at the moment so I can’t share the first line. It has grabbed my interest, and I’m enjoying that characters from previous books by Lynette are showing up.

      Hi Edward!
Unfortunately for us, clouds obscured the night/morning sky. Memphis had a fabulous moonset that morning, but when I went outside it was overcast. I must get Crossfire! I haven’t read it yet.

The picture is so beautiful. The book sounds really good. I always enjoy the Love Inspired books. I’m still reading By Way of the Moonlight by Elizabeth Musser. I posted the first line last week. Here’s the first line from chapter two. The filly came into the world the same way as the girl, with great difficulty.

First lines from my current read “Love Finds You in Golden New Mexico” by Lena Nelson Dooley….an oldie but goodie 🙂

    “Early Spring 1890
    Golden, New Mexico

“Are you plumb crazy?” Jeremiah Dennison’s loud retort bounced around the main room of the adobe house and returned to mock him. “Where did you get such a harebrained idea?”

So far it’s really good, I have a huge stack of these “Love Finds you” books that I’m working my way through. Each one is about a real place around the USA with unique names, some are historical and some are more modern….but each one is fun & full of romance. I’ve been enjoying them so much!
