Susan Sleeman's Night Vision; Ps 8:9

Susan Sleeman’s Night Moves is the book I’m reviewing on Reader Friday this week. Here’s the first line: Sympathize with a serial killer? No way. There’s more that I wanted to add, but I said the first line. lol

Before I get into my review of Night Moves, I want to talk about the photo. It was taken by a friend, Cheryl, who is in Orange County, Florida. I wish I could’ve found a way to stow away on their camper. Cheryl and her husband Don take gorgeous photos of everything from birds to nature scenes and even a few photos. She’s taken several of the photos on the backs of my books. 🙂 Many of her photos can be found on her website: Corinth Rose.

I also want to let you know my back is much better, thank you very much for the prayers. I start physical therapy next week, hoping to keep it from happening again!

Now onto Susan Sleeman’s Night Moves. Here’s the back cover copy:
If you’re in his sights…

County social worker, Natalie Dunn discovers a horrible secret about the father of her juvenile clients. The man not only killed one woman, but Natalie suspects he’s killed several others. She plans to go to the authorities, but before she can, the killer turns his sights on her. Fearing for the lives of this man’s children, she removes them from their home and calls in former U.S. Marshal, Drake Byrd of Nighthawk Security to protect her and the children and help her prove their father is a ruthless killer

You’re as good as dead. That’s the message she gets from the father.

As they investigate, Drake learns the father is a former elite sniper and assassin, and he has done a professional job of hiding any evidence of his wrongdoing. Drake vows to protect Natalie and the three children—all of whom he has come to care for—putting everything on the line for them. When bullets start flying, can he save them all from a certain death?.

My take:

This story grabbed me by the heart (and throat) from the first chapter. Natalie Dunn is a social worker who has been working with the children of a missing woman. Her husband, a police detective, had already set off alarms in her by some of his behaviors, but when his eight-year-old daughter told Jenna he liked to paint her fingernails and he always got this funny look on his face, red flags really started waving. Then the girl told Natalie he’d gotten rid of the basement and put a bookcase where the door used to be.

Natalie checks out the bookcase and discovers a hidden doorway behind it that leads to the basement. There she finds evidence that the children’s father is the serial killer known as the Clipper because he clips his victims’ fingernails and then paints them. She takes photos of the evidence and then runs with the children.

This story is a nail-biter from start to finish. Susan Sleeman is a master at romantic suspense and this is a story you don’t want to miss. It’s only 99¢ on Kindle right now!

Feeling much better, Linda. Mostly taking therapy to keep it from happening again! And this is a nail-biter. I got really aggravated at Susan Sleeman last night about midnight…I needed sleep!

Oh, that book description for Night Moves is gripping! I’m sure you enjoyed the read. I’m reading a Southern Gothic romance/family saga by Carrie Dalby called Barren Devotion. Storms are always messing up people’s lives in her books. The first line is: “Ever since the 1906 hurricane, Frederick Davenport knew storms had the power to change lives.”

Wow, the Corinth Rose web site has really beautiful photographs. Thanks for pointing it out, Pat. Good matching of Scripture to photo as usual.

I love Susan Sleeman’s Christian suspense! Each one is gripping with just the right touch of romance. Yeah, “Night Moves” will grab you.

“Was it too much to ask for a little peace and quiet on his so-called R & R?” is the first line of Susan May Warren’s “Mission: Out of Control”. It’s the second book of the Missions of Mercy series. Ms Warren’s books are very hard to put down.

Tim, Cheryl Meints has a great talent for taking professional photos of nature. And she’s great as a portrait photographer, too…She took the cover photos on my first books.

I love Susan May Warren’s books! She’s the reason my books ever improved enough to be published!

So thankful that your back is better! IMO, Susan Sleeman writes the best opening sentences of any author I know and I read 109 books in 2021. She is able to paint a vivid, detailed scene with her concise choice of words.

Night Moves sounds like an intriguing investigation for Natalie. I’ve always been fascinated by secret doors and passageways. As a former social worker, I can imagine the turmoil Natalie is experiencing as she tries to keep the children safe. Can’t wait to read this one!

The photo is like none other I’ve ever seen! Wow! Breathtaking! The Photo indeed shows us the majesty of God!

“Today was not going to be the day they died—not if she had anything to say about it.” First line of Life Flight by Lynette Eason.

Night Moves sounds very interesting. I like Susan Sleeman books. I love any good mystery involving a serial killer. That may sound morbid, but it just fits my interest.
