Show Me Betrayal; 2 Samuel 22:2-3

Show Me Betrayal by Ellen E. Withers is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: Liesl raced across the porch steps of the grand Victorian dwelling, through the house, and up the stairs. What happened? Aunt Suzanne was fine, but now she might not make it?

But first the photo and Scripture verse: Since I couldn’t go with her, Delores Topliff took the photo of Lake Bemidji to show me what I’d missed. 😉  It’s a beautiful place up near the Canadian border in Minnesota. I came across this Bible verse this week in my quiet time and it really spoke to me.

Now onto  Show Me Betrayal (Show Me Mysteries Book 1). Here’s the cover and back copy:

Show Me Betrayal; Two deaths occur decades apart. Is it possible these deaths are related? What motivates a killer, who got away with murder sixty years ago, to kill again? Was it uncontrollable rage or the hope of silencing someone who fit all the puzzle pieces together and deduced who committed the crime?

Set in the picturesque town of Mexico, Missouri, Show Me Betrayal takes flight in words and emotions of rich characters woven together into a story you won’t want to put down.

My Take:

I got caught up in this dual-timeline mystery on the first page. Ellen E. Withers did a great job of weaving both stories together, and I loved the characters and setting of Mexico, Missouri. I felt like I knew the town and the people.

There were plenty of clues pointing toward the killer, but I didn’t know who it was until almost the end! That’s unusual for me. The characters quickly came to life and Liesl won my heart right away, as did Kurt. And in the earlier timeline, Suzanne was a force to be reckoned with.

Ellen E. Withers did a great job of making my suspense-loving heart ratchet up. This is a story both mystery and suspense lovers will enjoy!

That’s a great photo, Delores! Many years ago, my wife and I spent a 4th of July weekend in Bemidji, visiting the lake, and of course, Paul Bunyan. If you’ve never been to Bemidii, look it up. There is a huge statue of Paul and Babe, his blue ox. That’s a great verse you chose to go with the photo, Pat.

Sounds like an interesting book. The book I am starting today is “Relative Silence” by Carrie Parks (you got me hooked on her books, Pat). The opening line is “The piercing scream ripped up my spine. I dropped the spatula and spun.” If that doesn’t grab ya, nothing will.

Carrie’s books are next on my list once I read Kelly Irvin’s book! Delores has invited me up to Minnesota and I’m sure Bemidji is on the list of places to visit…if I ever get caught up enough to travel. lol

Delores’s photo is pretty. Show Me Betrayal sounds like an intriguing read! I am reading an ARC of Like Honey for the Bones by Brandy Heineman. The first line (so good!): “She should have shipped his body to Norway.”

Beautiful photo, Delores. Peaceful. And Pat, the Scripture…yes, oh yes!! There is power is Scripture.

Loved your review on Show Me Betrayal. Of course, I’m hooked now.

I’ve been reading a new-to-me author, Crystal Caudill all week. Read one, book and ordered three more and on the last one now, Counterfeit Hope. “This was the last time, after tonight, she and Oscar would be free from the den of thieves they called family.

I love when you introduce me to new authors! This sounds like another great book to put on my TBR pile. One can never have too many books to read or too many authors to follow!

Beautiful picture and such a meaningful verse of Scripture.

I am doing a first read on Susan Sleeman’s Shadow of Deceit, which releases in less than a month. Since I don’t share first lines from books I’m proofreading or doing a first read of, I will share from the book I hope to start reading tomorrow, Windswept Way, by Irene Hannon: Maybe buying a haunted house wasn’t her best idea.
