Serial Burn by Lynette Eason is this week’s Reader Friday. Here are the first two lines: “Someone had to stop her. She was going to ruin everything if left to do what she planned,”
But first the photo and verse. I took the photo last week, I think, as I walked around my neighborhood. It was the first flower I’d seen blooming–even earlier than the buttercups (daffodils to everyone else). It didn’t matter that it was a weed, it still inspired hope. There’s something about that first flower of the year. Spring is coming. God brings it around every year. And that gives me hope.
Now for Serial Burn by Lynette Eason. Here’s the back copy and cover:Books in the Lake City Heroes Series
Serial Burn
Lake City Heroes, Book #3
She’s out for justice. But the arsonist she’s tracking is out for retribution.
Now the fire marshal of Lake City, Jesslyn McCormick is determined to find the person who started the fire that robbed her of her family when she was just seven years old. As the twentieth anniversary of the tragedy approaches, a string of fires–including at Jesslyn’s church–brings up all those old feelings and offers new evidence.
Because church fires are considered a hate crime, FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle is called in to work with local law enforcement. Nathan has his own past–one he’d prefer not to revisit. And focusing on helping Jesslyn track down the arsonist is a great distraction.
As both the case and the chemistry between Jesslyn and Nathan heat up, memories will come flooding in from the past to bump up against hopes for the future. And when Jesslyn comes face-to-face with her worst nightmare, she’ll have to confront her fears and rely on Nathan and her community of friends in order to survive.
My take:
Lynette Eason has done it again–she kept me up past 1 a.m. reading just one more chapter! This is a twisty, action-packed story that will have you flipping the pages to see what happens next. And where Jesslyn and Nathan’s relationship is going.
I quickly came to care about Jesslyn and Nathan–I especially like the way Lynette Eason creates strong women. And the crew of friends around them. Eason creates believable characters who struggle with relationships and faith and staying alive. The suspense is very tight and the villain makes the Jesslyn and Nathan stronger as they respond to the attacks.
This is a book romantic suspense readers will not be able to put down! You can find buy links here.

ECPA Best Seller list, woot, woot! Congratulations, Patricia!
Hello, little dandelion. Thanks for reminding us about hope in spring.
Serial Burn sounds good! Paulina’s Thorns by Enobong O’wunmi has my attention this week. It’s a collection of retellings of Jesus stories from the New Testament, and they’re set in contemporary Nigeria.
I love the dandelion picture; I agree that it offers hope that spring is coming! I’m reading Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography and Raelyn by Laura Scott. I haven’t read enough of the autobiography to offer an opinion yet, but I am loving the Laura Scott book. So far, this is a good series!
Author
Diane, I must read some of Laura Scott’s books since everyone raves about them!
I have to admit, when I lived in the midwest, a dandelion would have been the last flower I would want to see. Seeing one meant more to come. I can’t remember ever seeing one in Tucson, but we have weeds that would make dandelions cringe. But, the photo is very good, Pat. I like the verse, but I “hope” I never see another dandelion. 🙂
“Serial Burn” is a fantastic book, and I totally agree with your review. Lynette is at the top of her game here.
I’m reading two books at the moment. “Ty Remington Blamed the homemade orange marmalade cake for why he found himself huddled under an overhang off some faraway path in Glacier National Park, shivering, praying he might live through the night.” This is the opening line of “Storm Front” by Susan May Warren.
I am also reading “Suppose I Hadn’t Listened” by Barbara Diggs. I highly recommend it!
Author
Two awesome books, Tim! And I have fond memories of blowing on dandelions when I was a kid…much to my dad’s dismay. 🙂
Congrats! Nothing this week
Author
Thanks! And we must find you something to read, BN!
I just finished reading biblical historical, A Certain Man, by Linda Dindzans, and am very impressed. Now I’m starting Tangled Promises by Lynn U. Watson and am looking forward to it.
Author
I’ve read Lynn’s book and think you will really enjoy it…haven’t read A Certain Man, though.
I don’t mind dandelions. They brighten up the yard. Your lone one, Pat, is a nice addition to all the crunchy leaves around it.
Serial Burn comes after I finish up the last book in the Amish Calling Series by Kelly Irvin. “Humming ‘Amazing Grace’ Elijah Miller stuck a box filled with wooden toys into the back of his buggy next to a rocking horse, a doll’s cradle, a tiny table with four matching chairs, and a child-size wooden push lawn mower toy.” This is the first line in With All Her Heart.
Congratulations on being on the ECPA best sellers list for the third month in a row! (Clap clap). Happy Valentine’s Day!
Author
Kelly Irvin is such a good writer, Barbara. I need to pick up another one of her Amish books and read it! And thank you–I was pleasantly surprised when I received the email from my publicist.
Just finished reading the First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom. Have a nice Valentines Day,
Author
That book sounds intriguing, Sharon! I hope you’ve had a nice Valentine’s Day, too…and all the rest of my readers!
I love Lynette Eason books. I will be sure to get this book. Happy Valentines Day!
Author
It’s a good one, Judy!
Congrats, Pat! I am looking forward to reading Serial Burn. I am reading/listening to a couple of historical cozy mysteries but just finished The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson, a cute story about a ghostwriter. The first line is: “It was a dark and stormy night. I mean, not technically. Technically it’s actually remarkably warm for a January afternoon in Nashville, Tennessee.” Happy ❤️Day!
Author
I love that opening, Gloria!
Love the photo and verse! Like you, Pat, the first bloom in February or early March gives me hope and joy.
Congratulations, Pat, on Deadly Revenge making the ECPA best seller list for the third month! It is an awesome book!
Serial Burn is on hold at the Library and I’m anxious to read it. Lynette Eason is one of my favorite authors.
I’m reading Over the Edge by Irene Hannon (another favorite). “That was odd. As Lindsay Barnes guided her car up the long drive that led to her client’s upscale house, she eased back on the gas pedal and surveyed the empty bay in the three-car garage.”
Author
Mary, I have Irene Hannon’s book on my TBR table now…need to bump it up. 🙂 I love seeing spring come, and farmers planting…talk about hope!
Hope is also seeing a little flower bloom up from a crack in the sidewalk!
Author
Absolutely, Gail! I had a marigold that did that. 🙂
I read Tracking The Missing by Sami A. Abrams.
Author
I hav that one downloaded, Diana…can’t wait to get to it!
Just finished Three Weeks in Washington by Luana Ehrlich which was very good!
Author
Love Luana Ehrlich’s books, Shelia!
I am late. It was a busy day and then I had pizza and watched a couple of movies with my wife – our Valentine’s Day date. A nice day overall.
I like that picture. We haven’t seen any flowers yet, but it probably won’t be long.
I’m doing a first read of Jody Hedlund’s Spurs and Sparks which doesn’t release until July, so no first line available at this time.
Author
That sounds like a very nice day, Edward!
I would love to see a dandelion at this point after seeing our weather forecast for the coming week. Our robins will be flying back South! Pretty photo Patricia and verse.
Serial Burn sounds really good, I’ve had my eye on it for a while. I’m still reading the book I started last week by Denise Hunter, Before We Were Us. It’s really a cute love story and easy read.
Congratulations on 3 months in a row on the ECPA Best Seller list, that’s awesome!
Way to go!
Author
Thanks, Dottie! I know what you mean about the weather…that four-letter word, SNOW is in our forecast…
Love the spring flower and congrats on the ECPA good news!!
Author
Thabnks, Sally Jo! We now have a few buttercups blooming…and tomorrow they will be buried in snow…
