Scent of Danger ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 33 Comments

Scent of Danger, A Christian Romantic Suspense (Sullivan K9 Search and Rescue Book 1) by Laura Scott is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the opening. His half sister was late. DEA Agent Doug Bridges nursed his coffee, trying to ignore the shiver of apprehension sliding down his spine as he stared out the window of the Hitching Post Cafe in Cody, Wyoming.

But first the photo and verse. I had meant to use a different photo, one I took Labor Day, but my daughter emailed me this one, and since I love rainbows… The verse was a natural. 🙂

Search and rescue and love…
Kidnapped in Wyoming!

DEA Agent Doug Bridges is angry to realize his stepsister has been kidnapped after her night shift at the hospital. He goes into full agent mode to investigate, but soon runs into dead ends. Winter in northern Wyoming is no joke and he needs help, fast. When he’s referred to the Sullivan K-9 Search and Rescue team, he convinces Maya Sullivan and her Siberian Husky Zion to help him find Emily.

The oldest of nine siblings, Maya knows Emily through her youngest sister Kendra and doesn’t hesitate to offer her K-9’s tracking skills. But two episodes of gunfire, followed by a personal attack against Maya leads to more questions. Was the attack against Maya connected to Emily’s kidnapping? As a blizzard threatens to blanket the city with a foot of snow, Maya and Doug are in a race against time. Will they find Emily and a second chance at love before it’s too late?

I finally read one of Laura Scott’s Love Inspired books, and I’m so glad I did! Her books have been on my TBR list for months, but life has a way of throwing obstacles in my path. This won’t be my last Laura Scott book.

My take:

Scent of Danger will grab you from the first page when Doug Bridges’ sister goes missing. Laura Scott wove suspense, action, faith, and heartfelt emotion throughout the book, along with a sweet romance. Scott and Maya quickly became favorite characters, but Zion stole my heart.

The story, with its strong family connections, tight plot, and faith message, makes this book one not to miss!

I can’t wait to read the other books in the series!

Okay, Readers what book are you into this week? Leave the first line or leave a comment–tell me if there’s an author you’ve put off reading and wished you hadn’t? I’ll enter you in a drawing for one of Steve Hooley’s fine pens! (value $60) Steve’s Hand-crafted pens are made from antique and historic wood dating back to the 1700s, connecting our past and our future. Check out my friend’s pens at his website. (Due to shipping costs, winner must have a US address.)

The winner of the August drawing for one of Steve’s pens is…Sally Jo Pitts!

Now for this week’s song. Elvis came on the scene when I was a preteen so I grew up listening to his songs. I always loved his gospel, and “In the Garden “in particular. I hope you enjoy!

I’m reading Chasing Justice by Kathleen Donnelly and the first line of the book is: A black truck with an old camper shell whipped around a switchback in the distance. Love this author’s books and Scent of Danger really sounds and looks like a good read looking forward to reading this book in printed format

A K9 suspense story, I love it. Thanks for sharing Scent of Danger with us. Yes, I put off reading Walter Wangerin’s PAUL because it seemed intimidating (complex person as the subject matter and a long book). I’m finally reading it, and I’m glad I am!

Your daughter’s photo is amazing. I’ve never seen a rainbow filtering through the clouds like that before. It’s powerful, yet soft and comforting.

Scent of Danger sounds like another good one. I enjoy K-9 stories. Like you, I haven’t read any of Laura Scott’s book, but I sure will be in the future! Thanks, Pat.

I had a major nostalgic moment when I saw Elvis’s album. That album was the first LP I ever bought when I was quite young. Cost me $5.00 and a lot of babysitting to pay for it. Great memory and great song.

Late last night, I finished reading Perilous Tides by Elizabeth Goddard. “You won’t see danger coming. . .until it’s too late.” Getting ready to start Cornered by Lynette Eason, Lynn Blackburn and Natalie Walters.

I’m hooked on rainbows, too. Thanks for sharing your daughter’s beautiful photo. And, the verse is perfect for it.

    Congrats, Sally Jo!

Laura Scott is one of my favorite authors, and this is a great series. I am about to start reading “Scent of Evil” which is #7 in this series. I’m currently reading Susan May Warren’s “Steinbeck” #5 in the Minnesota Kingstons series. The first line is “What if this was the rest of his life?” Great book in a great series!

Love the picture and verse. When I see a rainbow, it always reminds me of God’s promises. I am on the sixth book of a series by Lacy Williams Wind River Legacy series. Also almost done with I think I was murdered by Collen Coble and Rick Acker.

Beautiful picture and well-matched verse. Thanks for sharing. The song is calm and soothing just like the picture and verse.

I just started reading Irene Hannon’s Sunrise Reef. This is the 11th book in her Hope Harbor Novel series.

    Was something burning?
Bren Ryan stopped reading the instructions on the tube of hair dye in her hand, destined for use later today, and frowned at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. Sniffed.
