Rescued ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 32 Comments

Rescued by Jerusha Agen is this week’s Reader Friday blog. Oh, my goodness. This fast-paced book will keep you reading way into the night! It’s one of five in the anthology, Cold Escape, that you won’t want to miss! Here are the first few lines: The screaming blare sought her in the darkness. A smoke detector? The children. The thought jolted Valena Greer upright in bed.

But first the photo (which I didn’t take) and verse. Isaiah 40:31 is one of my go-to verses when I feel overwhelmed. It’s been a hard two weeks in my small town with the death of a prominent doctor who was a great guy and a lovely teenage girl in an auto crash. The verse gave me comfort. I hope if you’re going through a rough time, it will give you comfort as well.

Now for Rescued by Jerusha Agen, the first book in the Cold Escape Anthology I don’t have the cover to Rescued, so here’s the one for Cold Escape–you’ll want to read all of the stories! Here’s the back cover copy for Rescued.

Being a nanny shouldn’t be dangerous. Tell that to the people who want her dead.
As the nanny of twin two-year-olds who lost their mother, Valena Greer wants to create a happy and safe home for the children. But when danger comes to her door, the illusion of safety is shattered.
A security agent shouldn’t have to convince the lady he’s saving her life.
But that’s exactly what Cooper White must do when he tries to rescue Valena and the twins from would-be killers.
As the deadly pursuers close in, can Valena and Cooper trust each other and God for the rescue they need?

My take:

I fell in love with the two-year-old twins right away. And Valena because she would do anything to keep them safe. And Cooper…well, let’s just say he came across as very swoon-worthy! But so gentle with the twins. Not so much with Valena who stubbornly wanted to do things her way.

Cooper is a former DEA agent who blames himself when his best friend gets captured by the cartel. He promised to protect his friend’s two children, and when the cartel comes after them, Cooper swoops in and rescues them and Valena. But then they have to stay ahead of the bad guys, so they go on the run until they find the evidence his friend hid that will take them down.

This fast-paced story with high stakes kept me up past midnight because I wanted to read just one more page. It is a great read for fans of romantic suspense.

You can read Cold Escape for free in KU or purchase it on Amazon! I’m in the middle of the second book by Mary Alford and I’ll review it next week!

Okay, Readers, what are you reading this week? Leave your first line in the comments or just leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a November drawing for a $10 gift card!

That’s a great photo, and that verse has much meaning to me as well, Pat. I got a chuckle as you indicated how you felt after your book release. I’ve felt that way many times after meeting a deadline.

Thank you for pointing me to that story by Jerusha. She’s a great author, and I was unaware of this series which is now on my TBR.

I just finished a book last night, and will start yours in a few minutes for my breakfast reading. The book I just finished was “Ruby Jane” by Susan May Warren which begins with, “Aw, York just knew this would happen. Knew he should never have come home. Knew that if he set foot back in America, he’d end up in the back seat of a covert CIA SUV, winding through the back hills of Washington State with a guy who had probably figured out that York knew his secrets.”

Tim, if you haven’t read the other books in that series, be sure you get them and read them. I enjoyed all of them.

I’m sorry to hear about the two people from your small town who lost their lives. May they rest in peace.

Oo, a whole anthology of romantic suspense novels. That’s cool, and Rescued sounds good.

I am reading Beneath the Wild Fig Tree by Australian author Fiona Preston. It’s a literary coming-of-age novel. Sometimes I like to relax into a slow-burn character exploration.

Congratulations on such a good release for Deadly Revenge! It’s waiting for me on my Kindle.

Power in that photo and verse, Pat! It gives us all that burst of God we may need today.

Rescued and the whole anthology sounds wonderful!!! Thanks for the good review! Love Jerusha’s books.

I’m reading Covert Past by Mary Alford. WOW! This is a page-turner! “The bombed-out building stood like a ghost among many like it. A shiver sped up Ayla Galante’s spine despite the warmth of her coat. She checked the time. The contact was more than two hours late.

I sure can relate to your meme after a project is completed. However, knowing this deadline is hanging over your head, you probably still feel like that. Thank you for persevering and writing books for us to read. Blessings and prayers.

Loved that cartoon of you! Gave me a chuckle, and I fully understand. Just started Specters in the Glass House so I won’t repeat the first line that you did last week.
That scripture is my son’s favorite. I did a cross-stitch of it for him complete with mountains and an eagle flying over.

Congrats on the success of Deadly Revenge, Pat!
Downtown Mistletoe, Maine, was a merry and bustling place any day of the year, but just ten days before Christmas, my hometown really put on a show.

I heard about the teenage girl from as teacher there in Corinth who used to teach with me. He called her Superstar and posted quite a tribute to her on Facebook. It is so sad when one dies so young. It sounds as though she touched a lot of lives in her short time. My prayers are with all who loved and cared for her.
I am currently reading The Unplanned Christmas Family by Angie Dicken. The first line is: “Natalie slammed on the brakes, a reckless reaction to her tires slipping on the slick, snowy patch.” My next book is your book Deadly Revenge. I can’t wait to get started.

The Cold Escape book(s) sound really good and will have to add to my list. I love your Eagle picture and Isaiah 40:31 has always been my favorite go to verse as well. I’m currently watching the Eagle live cam in southwest Florida, she just laid her first egg of the season, and Her second season of being a Mom. They are fascinating to watch!

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of the young girl and also the doctor. Is this the same doctor you spoke of taking water and supplies to N.C. ?
I look forward to reading your new book and congratulations on the ratings so far!

Dottie, I’ll have to find the live cam of the eagle! I’ll be spending my Christmas in that area…it wasn’t the same doctor, but Phil Mathis had helped a lot of people. I think you’d enjoy Cold Escape!

The website to watch the live cam is: http://www.dickpritchettrealestate.com
The nest is on their property with at least three live cams 24/7, located in North Fort Meyers. On the website there is a brief history of the past few seasons, and a live chat where you will learn so much about these majestic birds and their life in the wild. They are truly amazing!
