Reader Friday – Sniper!

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 25 Comments

This week I read Linda J. White’s book, SNIPER, and I had to make myself put it down so I could get some sleep. Just imagine a sniper in your community killing people randomly.

Linda’s husband, Larry, was a video producer/director at the FBI Academy for over 27 years, and he took Linda to the office so she could get a feel for the organization. And Dru Wells, retired FBI agent, provided many of the details of the inner workings of the FBI.

Here’s the back cover copy:

Shocked by the murder of a friend, FBI Special Agent Kit McGovern vows to bring the killer to justice. Then the shooter kills again, and again … and again.
Saddled with an unpredictable partner, forced to put her personal life on hold, Kit doggedly pursues the sniper. Quantico sends a geographic profiler to help identify him, but the killing of a young woman outside the probability zone casts doubt on that technique. As panic grips the Hampton Roads area, pressure mounts, and Kit soon finds herself in the crosshairs of failure—and death.

My review: My attention was captured from the first page when the sniper killed his first victim. It was fascinating reading how Kit McGovern and her team pulled together a profile of the killer and then went after him. And David O’Connor was a perfect hero, always concerned about Kit. And the romance was sweet, although a time or two I wanted to shake Kit and say, what are you doing? This man is perfect for you!

SNIPER is a page-turner. Linda was a new-to-me author, but not any longer. I have her other books on my TBR short list! And if you like fast-paced action and suspense, you will enjoy SNIPER.

Last month’s winner of a book from my library was chosen by Random.org and is: Edward Arrington!

Have you read one of Linda’s books? If not, do you like discovering new authors on posts like this?  Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a $10 Amazon gift card (hopefully for you to buy a book ;-)) at the end of the month.

Linda sounds like someone I want to put on my list also, and I usually follow recommendations from a favorite author ☺️ Or when I browse thru Amazon, one that has high reviews. Bookbub has some good books, also.

I actually read books recommended by authors I love or bloggers I follow. Anthologies are actually good ways for me to get to know a new author as well.

I like anthologies, too, Mindy. And today the Kill Zone: Ten Deadly Thrillers went the way of the dinosaur…The authors disbanded and we took the book down. But you can still get each story from the author. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

I want to read that book–I love her others. I JUST finished reading Charles Martin’s Chasing Fireflies, SO good I just ordered a copy to reread and mark-up for some keeper lines I don’t want to forget. Thanks for introducing me to him. Yes, many of my fave authors come through the recommendations of friends, or sometimes happy discoveries in the library. I’m grateful!

Uh, yes, it is Thursday huh?! lol I have not read Linda, but her books sound great. I enjoy mysteries, especially medical ones like Mabry writes. Also, love Irene Hannon’s mysteries. I love hearing recommendations by you and other commenters here.

You know that actually happened a few years ago. There were sniper type murders a few years ago somewhere up in the East/NE. Random people being shot while pumping gas, coming out of stores, etc. Seems like I remember the shooter being in a vehicle, or something.???? Sounds like the author’s FBI connections paid off. Thanks for the book recommendations!! I always like to hear your thoughts on same.

I think at least half of the authors I follow now were ones I first learned about on blogs like yours. At one time, I was receiving the CBD catalog and would see new books featured there. I no longer receive that so blogs bring them to my attention. Thanks to you and Random.org for the win.

I did not mean to post my comment there. I had not clicked Submit when I scrolled back to your post to review the question. As I scrolled down to return to my comment, I saw the mention of the sniper in Virginia. I clearly remember that because I was working in Charlottesville, VA at the time. The snipers were primarily on the I-95 corridor between Richmond and DC but had made a kill just off of I-64 one day. I-64 goes west from Richmond and passes Charlottesville. I think everyone at the bank where I worked at the time kept one ear tuned to the radio while they worked out of fear the snipers would decide to travel west on I-64. That was in the fall of 2002.

Hey Patricia, Sounds like this book is definitely one I would enjoy. I usually find new to me authors through authors like yourself or friends who recommend a book they liked. I’m also in a book club and I really enjoy reading a new to me author with my buddies.

I have found several new authors through blogs like yours. I have read some of Linda’s older books and will have to add this one to my list. My TBR stack is about to topple over! I can’t read fast enough!

I have read all of Linda’s books except Sniper and have it on my Kindle. She is one author that I buy automatically….a favorite of mine. I get ideas of books from blogs, authors, Goodreads friends and Amazon.

I had never heard of this author…she is now on my list to check out. Thank you! I find new authors in a variety of ways, most of which have already been mentioned by others. One additional, which has not been mentioned, is at my local library. They have a “faith” section where the inspirational fiction books are shelved together. It makes it easy to identify them and browse through them to find some I enjoy.
