Today I am at the American Christian Fiction Writers conference in Nashville so I may be a little slow getting back to your comments.
I recently read Brandilyn Collins’ book Over the Edge, and I’m here to tell you, I could not put it down! Here’s the back cover copy and then I’ll be back to tell you why I liked it.
Back Cover Copy:
Torn from the front lines of medical debate and the author’s own experience with Lyme Disease, Over the Edge is riveting fiction, full of twists and turns—and powerful truths about today’s medical field.
Janessa McNeil’s husband, Dr. Brock McNeil, a researcher and professor at Stanford University’s Department of Medicine, specializes in tick-borne diseases—especially Lyme. For years he has insisted that Chronic Lyme Disease doesn’t exist. Even as patients across the country are getting sicker, the committee Brock chairs is about to announce its latest findings—which will further seal the door shut for Lyme treatment.
One embittered man sets out to prove Dr. McNeil wrong by giving him a close-up view of the very disease he denies. The man infects Janessa with Lyme, then states his demand: convince her husband to publicly reverse his stand on Lyme—or their young daughter will be next.
But Janessa’s marriage is already rocky. She’s so sick she can hardly move or think. And her husband denies she has Lyme at all.
Welcome to the Lyme wars, Janessa.
Brandilyn Collins had me on the edge of my seat the whole I time was reading Over the Edge. Can you imagine someone purposefully infecting another person with such a horrible disease, one that wasn’t even recognized as a disease? To be so sick and someone tells you that it’s all in your mind? And then be taunted by the person who did it? Just as in the story, early on in the treatment of Lyme’s disease, insurance companies routinely denied coverage of longterm antibiotics to treat it, so the battle was two-fold.
It was hard to guess who the culprit was and her portrayal of someone with Lyme’s is based on her own battle with the disease and is so realistic. If you haven’t read this book, you are missing a treat!
You can buy Over the Edge at Amazon , B&N, and CBD.
Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a $10 Amazon gift card!

I’m so sorry to hear Ms. Collins had to deal with Lyme’s, but what a great premise for a novel!
Author
It was such a scary premise! I loved this book. Thanks for stopping by, Priscilla.
I’ve read this book-and it was hard to put down! My brother & sister-in-law both have lyme disease. He is a chiropractor & keeps up with the studies that are done on it.
Author
Mary, I’m sorry those in your family have Lyme’s. I understand it can really take a toll on your body. Did they read the book?
I’ve also read this book. It’s a good story about a bad disease and a callous husband and doctor. I like Brandilynn Collins’ writing.
Author
Brandilyn truly writes “fasten your seatbelt” books! Thanks for stopping by, Christine.
I have read this book and love Brandilynn Collins’ books. She always writes with empathy for her characters, but this book was absolutely spellbinding with its attention to detail and how bad the bad guy is. Betrayal by a loved one! Great book!
Author
So agree, Vickie! Thanks for stopping by.
Sounds like an interesting book. Treatment of Lyme is a tough one and I really came into the medical scene when it was thoroughly being investigated so it would be eye-opening to read about the early years of the disease’s detection and treatment.
Author
Love hearing your view, Mindy! If you haven’t read this one, you should. Great insights. Thanks for stopping by.
Sounds like a great book! My “to be read” pile keeps growing!!
Author
I know, Diane, I know! I’ve added several to my pile this week! Thanks for stopping by.
This sounds like a riveting story. My niece (by marriage) contracted Lymes and almost died before it was diagnosed. Scary disease.
Author
Yes it is, Stella. Thanks so much for stopping by!
It just goes to show everyone that Doctors may be doing their best, however, they are only human. I look forward to reading this next book
Author
Absolutely, Phyllis! This is such an interesting book. Thanks for stopping in.
Oh yes! I’ve read this one and loved it!
Author
Wasn’t it great, Rosalyn!! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
It is a great book; think I will re-read it! Have fun at the conference and safe travels!
Author
I am having a ball, Jackie! I’ve met with my editor, publicist, and agent already. And have met so many interesting authors! Thanks for stopping by.
I would love to read this book. It sounds very exciting. Thanks for the chance to win!
Author
It’s a great book, Faith, as is all of Brandilyn’s! Thanks for stopping by.
This sounds like a great book. I haven’t read any of Ms. Collins’ books but I need to look at them.
Author
Oh, my word, Gloria. Grab one and get ready for a terrific read! Thanks for dropping in.
I read a book she wrote about Lyme Disease. Is this the same one or a new one? If, this is a new one, I haven’t read it yet. It sounds like a great to read.
Author
It is the same one, only she’s re-released it after getting her rights back, Beverly. I really liked it. Thanks for stopping by.
Just wanted you to know I just finished “Coroner” & it was sooo good! Definitely not easy to put down. Had to request from local library, then wait until they put their newly purchased book on the shelf. But well worth the wait! Thanks for the recommendation. And how I have enjoyed your books!!!!
Author
Yes! Judy. The Coroner was sooo good. Did you know she wrote the book for the movie, God Bless the Broken Road? Thanks for stopping by.
I’ve read other books by Brandilyn and they were full of suspense and very riveting! Would love to enter a giveaway and win a print copy of this one! Thanks for sharing about this important topic, how to overcome in difficult situations and have victory in the Lord! God bless!
Author
Thanks, Lual! Brandilyn is a very talented writer. I’ve talked with her this week and she wanted me to express her thanks for all the nice comments. She is the emcee here at ACFW and so busy!
Hope you’re enjoying the ACFW. This book sounds like a great read. If I can ever catch up, I need to get my hands on some of her books to read.
Author
Be sure to fasten your seatbelt, Edward…she writes very suspenseful books! And I’m having a blast at ACFW. It’s at Opryland this year and I’ve gotten lost at least twice every day. lol
Pat, I understand getting lost at Opryland. I can typically find my way around anywhere, but Opryland is different. I was there once back in the mid -80s. It was fairly easy to get around. Then my wife and I went there for a Southern Gospel Music New Years Eve Celebration two years, I think maybe 2013 and 2014. They had added on and renovated so much that I never did figure out where the original part was located. That place is complicated even with a map.
Author
Not to mention that the map which is supposed to be color-coded to the carper is WRONG because they just changed the carpet. lol But it’s been a great time here, Edward. Just finished a panel with Steve James and Brandilyn Collins!!!! Fan girling here. Thanks for stopping by.
I’m glad this is re-released and that Brandilyn has recovered well. I read this several years back and still remember the gripping plot.
Author
It is absolutely a gripping plot, Delores! Thanks for stopping back.
My adult daughter had Lyme’s Disease but, thank God, hers was not as severe as some.
Author
I’m so glad your daughter’s case was milder, Joan. Thanks for stopping by.
I love suspense with a medical twist…this one sounds fasinating!
Hope you have lots of fun at the ACFW, Patricia!! I’ve seen pictures up on Facebook already with some other authors and it makes me a bit jealous…lol! What a great time for authors to get together and learn new things 🙂
Author
Trixi, ACFW is one of the best conferences around…I wish every writer could experience ACFW. There are also other great conferences for writers–we even have one in my area as well. The MidSouth Christian Writer’s Conference is in Memphis, and we have a great line up of workshop leaders if you ever get a chance to come. It’s only a day and a half long, so it isn’t very expensive.
We have her books in the Church Library. Our readers either love them or hate them. If they hate them , then I’ll get an ear-full of why they shouldn’t be in the library and if they love them, then they will ask when is the next book coming out? Such is life in the Church Library but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Author
I wouldn’t want to be a church librarian at.all. 🙂 I’ve heard the same thing from my church librarian. Thanks for stopping by Janet.
Sounds good. I need to add it to my TBR pile!
Author
It’s a great read, Sally! And it was so good seeing you at ACFW! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Patricia, I should have asked this sooner. But is Brandilyn a Christian author? I see her books in my Overdrive digital library and am interested in checking out “Over the Edge” because of your recommendation. Thanks for answering 🙂 I see she has a lot of her books I can borrow!
Author
Yes, ma’am, Trixi, she is definitely a Christian author! Check her out–you’ll be glad you did.
Author
Trixi, I don’t know if I answered this earlier, but yes, Brandilyn Collins is a Christain author and her books are wonderful!
Awesome, thank you so much Patricia! Definitely reading it than 🙂 Love suspense with a medical twist. You may have just introduced me to a new-to-me author!
Thank you for introducing me to Brandilyn Collins’ books! This one sounds great!
She’s a great writer, Caryl!
