Reader Friday – Grafted into Deceit

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 23 Comments

This week I’ve read a couple of novella’s I will review next week, and a great romantic suspense by Sherri Wilson Johnson, Grafted into Deceit. Here’s the back cover copy:

Disappearing business funds and a missing dead body have Marina Acres doubting everyone — including the detective whose case can’t be solved without her help.

When Marina Acres launches an investigation to find her company’s missing money, she becomes a killer’s target and uncovers a tangled vine of deception in the process. Detective Steven Pennington, who suspects drugs are at the root of the problem, must keep Marina safe from the killer while keeping himself from falling for yet another victim. Marina refuses to believe that her business partner could be part of a drug trafficking ring, but when evidence points its finger at her, she must join the fight with Steven to weed out the killer.

I enjoyed this book set in Georgia and was a little aggravated Monday night when I couldn’t put Grafted into Deceit down since I needed to get up at five.

Marina is an independent woman who is loyal to her friends, and this sometimes gets her into trouble. Grafted into Deceit is the third book in the Intertwined series, but it’s a stand-alone and you don’t have to read the other books in the series first. And I love the cover!

So, what have you read this week? Leave a comment to be entered in a drawing for one of the books reviewed on Reader Friday. And a question. Do you reread books?

I read Vanishing Point by Lisa Harris. An exciting, enjoyable read. I felt some of what you discussed above – it was difficult to put down.

I’m in the middle of Charming the Troublemaker by Pepper Basham. So a fun book (though totally different from yours!).

Yes, Lisa Harris’s Vanishing Point completely blew my schedule apart. Now I’m reading Cara Putnam’s Beyond Justice which is trying to do the same. Sometimes I reread books when they’re extremely well-written and do a good job of modeling a writing technique I want to improve on.

Oh that’s sounds like a good book. I will check it out and the author’s other books. I grew up in Georgia so that makes it more appealing. I am reading Winter Wonders by Delia Latham.

I just finished A Grand Teton Sleigh Ride by Elizabeth Goddard and Lynette Sowell. I think I’ll start a Michelle Griep Christmas book next. Since I’m so short on time these days, I don’t usually reread a book. But I will if it’s absolutely fabulous. I usually only reread the literary classics these days, since they old up so well to rereading.

I, too finished Vanishing Point. Now to write a review. I also read A Fool and His Monet by Sandra Orchard. That was LOL funny! And mysterious. I have just started Dear Mr. Knightley by Katherine Reay. It’s different but good so far. I don’t reread much. I have too many books to read. But I might if I’m in a challenge or if I need to for a third book coming out and haven’t read the first two in a while.

I am not a re-reader (except for my Bible) and never have been. I have enough books to last me a lifetime to do that…lol!

This is what my reading week looked like: I’ll Be Home for Christmas (four novellas by Belle Calhoune, Jill Kemerer, Allie Pleiter, and Lenora Worth), Colors of Christmas by Olivia Newport, The Gift of the Inn by Golden Keyes Parsons, and I’m about halfway through Dangerous Illusions by Irene Hannon. Lots of Christmas reads this last week and more to come 🙂
